I feel bad for John from WA He lost his son, and instead of thinking "That's cruel and unfair, clearly something at odds with what God is supposed to be so clearly I was wrong about God existing", he has to hope that this cruel thing that happened to his son will someday be 'worth it'. Though, his wording seemed a bit odd - 'I'm looking forward to that hopefully being rectified in the future' in terms of the death being 'worth it'. I'm sure he didn't mean it like this, but what I hear from that is 'I was hurt by this awful thing that happened to someone else, but I might get a treat later to make up for it so maybe it's okay that it happened'. It's horrible that he has to deal with the grief of losing someone, but the bigger tragedy is that person having their life taken away... Why does him getting a treat one day make someone ELSE'S tragedy 'worth it'? I don't have a good segue to this personal story, but it's related to the topic: When I was 5, my 6 year old brother died of an auto-immune disorder he was born with (it was genetic, and yes I could've had it too, I don't know if my mother knew by the time I came around, but my 'father' likely didn't care anyway). He went through six years of fighting, somehow staying positive through it more than any adult ever could. When he passed, we had people telling us it was all part of God's plan, he was granted entry to Heaven and my family would one day be rewarded too... My mother called bullshit, and said even if that ends up true, God better send her to hell because she'd use her eternity to do everything possible to destroy him... After saying that, those people called her ungrateful... What did she have to be grateful for, and how would rewarding us ever balance out what my brother endured and lost? (casting aside the fact that my brother was a kind little guy who would probably be satisfied with us being rewarded on his behalf. His Make-A-Wish was a backyard playstructure he couldn't even really use, but he knew his siblings and other kids would have fun with it)

To Andrew, if war is just a component of who we are as humans, or r*pe is a component of who we are, because they are part of the human experience, then should we just accept them and work to reform them as well? Just saying that religion is a common human experience through history doesn’t mean we need it. Religion is an offshoot of tribalism, and tribalism was a key component of survival in the past. However, in the modern world it causes more conflict and strife than any benefit it appears to add.

If an all-knowing all-loving god wants us to know him, we wouldn't need to wait for him to provide evidence for his existence - he already would have. We'd have only one religious text, the one that relates to him, and it would be clear, concise, and not rambling and contradictory. He would make sure we had the original copy and he would make sure no other religious text survived or even gotten written. We also wouldn't have theists telling us to look at the trees and something can't pop into existence from nothing.

My dad has said that "hell" is any place that isn't in the presence of God. Technically speaking, everyone goes to heaven, but the best place would be the level of heaven that lets you reside in the presence of God. I don't understand how this works out when some Christians claim that God is always present, so how can there be any places where God is not present.

Also, on what Godless Granny said about how religion has a hold on important events in life; here in Sweden there's a national humanist organisation that have officials that are available to officiate ceremonies of all kinds, which is a very good thing. Interestingly, even though this is one of the most secular nations in the world, many still Baptize their children, marry in church and have Christian burials, but it is changing and it's important that there are readily available alternatives.

John (WA) sounds like the kind of Christian I used to be. It took a lot of energy to disregard the unpalatable parts of scripture. I also didn't believe in hell and I also thought my god believed in equality. I created a god in my image or according to my ideals. I think John's a good guy and we need more theists like him. Personally I stopped believing in a god not because the bible was absurd but because I learned that the universe didn't need a god.

Also just reliant on the assertion that eternal life is a utopia when many people believe it would be miserable. Also-also, according to most interpretations of the Bible, Adam and Eve already had eternal life in the garden anyway, since eating of the fruit was what made God get cranky and decide to let sin and death into the world. The Petersonian tactic of just asserting that God and Christianity are somehow true because they are the keepers of things like truth and goodness - when those concepts existed long before Christianity and basically everybody knows that - and then just stacking other claims on that wouldn't help make it true even if those claims are correct, like appealing to popularity, or just denying that there are those who actually internally disagree. It's not even just trying to define God into existence, it's trying to nebulously twist definitions into God existing. Word association game, therefor God. Purposefully abusing the limitations of language, and choosing to be as imprecise as possible, to jumble a chaotic ball of a case together in order to just try to make it as messy as possible to untangle and get to the meat of. Another funny note of the Petersonian ideology: "The constructs of the mind are actually more real than reality. What? Gender? Never heard of her. Sounds stupid."

I've only just started watching this particular video but can see that Mr British has called in yet again, and I wonder what BS he will try to inflict on both the hosts and the viewers this time. He is a total troll and adds nothing to any 'conversation' that he instigates, he is loathsome and I feel that no-one, whether atheist, agnostic or theist, get any pleasure or enlightenment from his calls.
