The only reason any of I-69 exists in MS is cuz the completed section leads to a casino and the casino basically payed for it. as far as the state taking initiative… they dont even have the initiative to provide clean water to their own capital!

its not that they don't have the initiative, its the fact they want to embezzle money from the federal piggy to enrich their own lives. they already embezzle money from the capitals water utility system (hince why a 3rd party appointed by the federal level is actually overseeing the project currently to provide clean water to the capital!) and there was some reports of FBI investigations in the state politics, which does not look good for the state. what mississippi needs to do is elect someone to clean house, and that doesn't look likely without federal involvement. it wouldn't surprise me if I-69 gets bypassed completely and arkansas has to front the bill for a new interstate for their side of the mississippi river, including a new bridge.
@criticallard2090
@criticallard2090 4 месяца назад
Exactly. The Tunica Resorts essentially built that segment of I-69 out of their own pockets. Unfortunately, the resorts are dying now. Rival casinoes in Memphis have sucked the tourism out of that region. Since Mississippi can't even give clean water to it's people, I-69 and I-14 are likely only going to be built if Washington opens a suitcase of cash. It's honestly a miracle that I-22 was built in that state.

@@criticallard2090 I-22 just shows they have the funds and the will to get projects done, they will just take their sweet time because jackson is corrupt. at least louisiana has the excuse because their primary focus is saving the port city of new orleans from rising sea levels.

You missed a very important part that hasn't been completed yet - the Ohio River bridge between the Indiana and Kentucky portions. The current connection, US 41 between Evansville and Henderson, is not only *not* a limited-access highway, one of the current bridges it uses to travel across the Ohio is old and structurally unsound. However, the new bridge is already well into the planning stages, construction on the Kentucky side from the current end of i-69 towards the bridge has already started, and construction on the new bridge itself is planned to start in 2027. Both state governments have traditionally been very pro-I-69, so there's almost no likelihood that the bridge project would fall through at any point. Once the bridge and the almost-completed Indianapolis portions are completed (and the last portion in KY gets its awaited designation), I-69 will run from Canada to the KY-TN border. Once the Union City bypass is complete, TN only needs to reconstruct the US 51 - US 45 interchange immediately south of the KY border in South Fulton and fill in a few miles between Troy and Union City for I-69 to reach Dyersburg and I-155 to hook back into the Interstate system again.

One thing you left out: I-69 appears again from Dyersburg to the KY-TN line, granted, it’s unsigned as I-69, but rather its signed as a state highway, Tennessee State Route 690. However, the 690 designation will likely be short-lived, as KY intends to rebadge the rest of the Purchase Parkway by December as the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet upgrades the remaining 21 miles of the Purchase Parkway by redesigning Exit 14 in Wingo, and improving Exits 1 and 2, among other spot improvements.

on top of it, the troy bypass is gonna be built, and connect right up to the existing freeway portion of US-51, till it reaches dyersburg. and plus, the reports of a new ford superplant along US-51 will most likely get tennessee to start funneling more money to completing I-69 to memphis, as its already started construction on the interstate itself around union city after it was essentially dead for 15 years.

I grew up in Michigan in the 70s and remember 69 ran from Lansing to Indy. Always amused to hear about grandiose plans for this route as this road was never heavily used. Last year I visited Memphis for first time and was surprised to see markers for I 69 there. It just seemed so random. And there's also a I 269! The Michigan portion was completed in the 1990s, long before anything south of Indianapolis was considered. Much of the route north of Fort Wayne is still paralelled by "Old US 27," a route that's retired in Michigan. (The portion of US-27 north of Lansing, MI was renumbered as an extension of US-127, making that route something of an orphaned spur route.)

Once the Gordie Howe Bridge opens between Windsor and Detroit, it will be interesting to see how much truck traffic gets diverted from the Ambassador and Blue Water Bridges and how that affects I-69. Likley Sarnia is going to take a big hit.

Depends where you're going. If you're going just to the Windsor to Niagara corridor, Detroit is quicker. If you're going to Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, Sarnia is slightly quicker. Especially considering the time to actually cross the border is usually longer in Detroit. At least pre-GHB anyway.

Honestly, I’ve been saying this for a long time now that they really should just give up on the Mississippi and Louisiana portions! Just reroute the interstate to Arkansas and along the Mississippi River to avoid another costly bridge. That way you still get the connection to Memphis via old routes and bridges. In Texas I would move it to Texarkana instead of going into Shreveport. The whole stretch from Memphis to Michigan/ Canada is probably the most realistic to get completely finished and is the most economically viable. The states of Louisiana and Mississippi simply are way too poor and overwhelmed with other projects to even look at this project.

mississippi is just too corrupt to even bother with I-69, its why the casino paid for the portion to the casino. just reroute it past louisiana, and have it go up into arkansas instead, then route it up along the arkansas side of the mississippi, and into the stub just above tunica. that way, mississippi gets to have their portion, and not have to pay for a brand new freeway, and arkansas gets to have their freeway to get local commerence, and can own and operate the bridge with the help of tunica casino instead. that way, everyone wins, and we get to have I-69 before they start making flying cars.

i don’t think I-73 is necessary. however there needs to be something else through delaware county than current US 23. maybe they rebuild US 36/SR 37. farther south, towns like south bloomfield and waverly need to be bypassed
@JayYoung-ro3vu
@JayYoung-ro3vu 5 месяцев назад
@UserName-ts3sp Columbus officials have been advocating another ring road but only 5 miles from the current one. Take a look at that real estate proposal. A regional approach (their favorite words) should connect the county seats of any county bordering Franklin County. Another approach should be the upgrades of USR 33. Southeast of capital city has bypassed the other cities. Haven't traveled northwest of city to Toledo in decades. 73 could be overlaid onto 33? Southern Ohio could have an upgraded 32 or 50 as it would take traffic off 70? An extended 76 could run into Ft. Wayne area but that would take traffic of 80 & 90. As for 23, residents would prefer their farmland ( I dislike seeing farmland changed to housing plats but that' the downside of a high population growth area) swallowed by housing or other 'development' (coming anyway) than a bypass around Delaware. Signs all along 36 east to 71. 'Development' is coming up 23 and Sawmill Parkway.
@UserName-ts3sp
@UserName-ts3sp 5 месяцев назад
@@JayYoung-ro3vu 33 is quite the swing. it would take longer than 23 to toledo. there would still need to be freeway upgrades around the indian lake area up towards wapakoneta. southeast it would be quite the swing too, as it’s supposed to connect huntington and bluefield WV. if I-73 follows 33 it’ll be concurrent with I-77 for around 150 miles in west virginia. as for your other ideas i don’t think they’re all that necessary. I-70 across ohio doesn’t have bad traffic outside of a few spots. I-76 doesn’t need to be extended west, US 30 is a decent alternative between the turnpike and I-70, it’s mostly divided highway with some freeway sections from fort wayne to canton. the second outerbelt idea is incredibly stupid and unnecessary. i can see some roadway improvements in areas, like 36 and 42 from union to delaware counties. the only new corridor that i think could work is from 33 near pickerington (east) through etna/pataskala to intel near johnstown. etna is a growing logistics corridor, connecting it to points southeast could be valuable. and there needs to be improvements in western licking county along the mink st corridor

I look forward to the completion as far as Memphis. I currently live in Toledo, Ohio, and my nephew and his family live in Baton Rouge. 69 to Memphis would be a more direct route there than the routes my sisters have taken in the past. I used to live in Indianapolis and I went to the nephew's wedding in Vicksburg, Mississippi some years back to go there the computer program I used then recommended taking I-70 to Effingham, Illinois and I-57 io the junction of I-55 in Missouri and following 55 through Arkansas to Memphis. The new I-69 makes that route from Indianapolis more direct.I am guessing it would shorten the time by a minimum of 3 hours, and maybe more.
