My HMR 6.5 Creedmoor right out of the box touched holes. I ran the S&B junk and there was no grouping to that stuff. But it liked pretty much everything else. Some 95gr opened up to .75" . Sirocco ammo by remington runs decent in all my 30cals.
My .308 bergara did the same thing at first. After about 3 boxes of ammo it now shoots 1“ groups with cheap norma tactical and 1/2“ with nosler e-tip consistently
It’s not surprising to me. I’ve got a bergara ridge 300wm that I had absolute fits with trying to get it to group well. 7 different “premium” factory loadings. None of them would print a 5 shot group less than 1.5”. The 8th load I tried, which is what Bergara uses for their “MOA” guarantee, shot 5 rounds in 3/4”. Unfortunately it’s the SIG 190gr match loading, but I wanted to know before sending in the rifle. Bergara was no help, “We don’t guarantee it to shoot sub MOA with hunting ammunition” is what I was told. Luckily I planned to handload for it anyway, I was just trying to find a factory load to work in the mean time, so I put it at the front of the line for load development and got it shooting great with 174gr Hammer Hunters. All that to say this, I won’t suggest a Bergara to anyone and I won’t be buying another. If a cheaper Ruger American or a similarly priced Tikka shoots better out of the box, why buy a Bergara?
That copper is sometimes tough to get good groups out of. Some experts claim you need to clean barrel out really well before shooting copper. Who knows?
I use the bipod and Caldwell bag as you are. I was finding that the bag was catching on the sling swivel stud. I added a plastic wedge to slide in and out under the bag. Simple addition that made it more pleasurable to shoot. What I bought was a plastic smooth felling wedge for tree cutting! You are doing a great job keep up the good work.
Need WTW to offer workshops on practical riflery and targetry. Remington could put him on the gun show circuit (if only he didn’t have young’ns). His easy going style makes everyone feel welcome.
You always have the most beautiful rifles you display to your viewers. Not just the run of the mill firearms but firearms I have recently read about in different rifle magazines I read. Thank you so much for your informative videos with a great personality. Down to earth, I appreciate you.
I never shoot on a warm bore I shoot on a cool day and barrel is left to cool between every shot a shot at a game animal is always on a ice cold bore. Never understood someone shooting several shot in a row and trust me a ice cold bore does shoot different
A feller sure likes them core lokt’s. But hey they seem to usually treat a feller pretty well.. That’s a pretty sweet bullot slinger for sure, it’s a Bergara so I’m sure it’s gonna work out.. I’m thinking hard on a new bolt action.. Can’t decide if I want a 308. 7mm mag, 7mm prc.. 300 mag or 300 prc. The prc’s kinda make me nervous with the limited support for them and being developed by Hornaday..
7 rem mag if your going to hunt elk or bigger if not the 308 because you can get ammo anywhere for it and at a lower price! If your into the faster twist barrel go with a used 7 rem mag and put a faster twist barrel on it!
At least! I’ve got a Bergara wilderness hunter in 7PRC with a 22” barrel and the velocity really suffers a lot more than expected over what load data and factory loads advertise for a 24” barrel MV. Over 200fps velocity loss for that 2” of barrel.
@@chevyon37syou’re not losing that much velocity over the 24” Hornady just exaggerated there numbers a lot. Very few people are getting 3000fps with a 26” barrel let alone a 24”
Suggestion, screw a 1x2 board in front of your bipod and preload it. Maybe it won’t walk so much with heavy recoiling calibers. Also keep an eye on your rear bag placement. It seems to be more critical with heavy calibers. Love your videos!
Man!... thats a different animal. Screw you a board down infront of the bipod. This will allow you to load, or push slightly forward loading the bipod consistently. My experience with shusher devices and high volume cans without hot exspanded gasses, cold bore, similar results. Mapping the cold bore with a can is different than your cold bore without. Very nice rifles and great accuracy. Board to load on for the beast and groups 2nd, 3rd, -6th will show your actual shusher group. The only other thing that bothered me was the p.o.i. changing from left to low to up like a whirly whirl. Id check the scope with a target test and see if that recoil didnt gain it a return ticket to the warranty department. My model 70 liked to put nikons there. Lol.... it doesnt do that to my vortex or arkens. Similiar whirly whirls with the mule kicker. Im wondering about buying some of them there cor-loct tipped projectiles and loading sum up fer my remington 300 bing bang. They seem to shoot good in most of your pew pews.
A word of advice.... put you a vanilla car sent tree on the underside of the bill of your hat with a spring paper clip and those nats won't bother you. Change it out once a month till they are gone. IT WORKS.
@@timhelton-pz7pj You do realize some military rifles are chambered in 300 win mag don’t ya? I guess you can call that hunting, but of the 2 legged critter variety.. lol
@@JJ-iu5hlyou can do a lot of range practice with one and do your hunting with the other rifle without putting to many rounds through it! I did that for years and it’s a great idea! 60+ years hunting reloading and collecting rifles and still learning!
@@edwardabrams4972 I could see how that makes sense for certain cartridges. The main reason I bought a 308 over one of the newer "better" rounds is for the insanely long barrel life.
@@JJ-iu5hl I have a bad character flaw. Bought the first one at Scheels in Wisconsin because they matched a sale price on gun broker. NEVER INTENDED TO KEEP IT AS IS. Whole purpose was to convert it to a 7PRC. I couldn't stand it. Just had to buy some ammo and see how it did. MISTAKE. Unreal accuracy with Norma Bondstrike and Norma Whitetail. So, I kept it as is. Found a penny auction online for another one, new, I won the bid. This time I told myself, DON'T SHOOT IT. Couldn't stand it. I had plenty of ammo. Shot it. Duplicated the first 300WM. Well it's now a 7PRC with a Proof pre-fit Tikka barrel and a Stocky's Stock ultra carbon - got the latter 2 at year end clearance. $350 for the stock, $740 for the barrel. $50 to my gunsmith to change out the barrels.
@@Accuracy1st That sounds exactly like something I would do. I've been leaning toward buying a 300wm Tikka to convert to 7prc. But I know I'll shoot it stock first, and I'm just assuming it will be accurate and I'll have a hard time replacing a perfectly excellent barrel.
Only thing I don’t like about this gun is the barrel length. I’ve always been under the impression if a 300 win mag is under 24” you’re not getting anymore velocity that a 30-06, doesn’t have enough time for all the powder to burn off.
Put a dryer sheet (doesn't seem to matter what brand) in your hat. It's a winner to keep the gnats from swarming around you (especially your head and face)! When I'm outside and the gnats are especially bad, I use two sheets and let them hang out a little from the front and back of my hat. One box will last you all year! Give it a try! I can't even cut firewood, let alone concentrate on trigger pull, when the gnats are flying in my face!
Some rifles like the same powder, when ya change powder, it could make it not shoot good. Like when I change from 30-31 to varget I clean my barrel real good then put about 10 to 20 flyers, through it. I ain't a know it all though, great vids man. Nice rifle. Thanks for uploading!!!
The things that would concern me would be cold bore changes and also group impact changes. Two things I consider more important than group size. The cold bore shot has to hit the same place every time. Otherwise, you can never be confident if you're sighted in or not. Secondly, the hot impact needs to be in the same general area. So depending on the type of group, I'd take an inch and a half group all near the bullseye than a good shot and 2 in the same hole somewhere else even if it's submoa. Now if the first two are on top of each other consistently with the third a flier it's annoying, but two perfect shots should be enough to get a hit, and after that it's hailmairy after that if the animal is wounded. Shoot, I I've hit three animals exactly where I aimed with a horrible load up to 300 yards with no misses with horrible grouping loads because the cold bore hit was good, and I wanted to try the bullets. Now I certainly wouldn't recommend that, and have no plans to do it again, however anything with a consistent cold bore hit that shoots submoa and I'm a happy camper. I still love tiny groups though, and it matters a lot more at distance. Just some opinions of mine that I expect no one to agree with. Fun video.
One of the many things I love about Wyoming...No skeeters, Gnats or Fire Ants. I've probably been bit by a Skeeter maybe 3x in 5 yrs. As a NC transplant I feel your pain. lol.
Shooting groups really means very little for a hunting rifle. Shoot a 3 or 5 shot cold bore group by letting the barrel cool completely between shots. That's the real hunting precision the rifle is capable of. Would make an interesting video
My .270 Remington 783...Zero excuses, gets better as it gets hotter, keeps shooting clovers on store bought Core-Lokt. Only $650. including the Leupold VX1 Scope I mounted on it.
Love your videos and try to watch them all, so when are you going to review a tikka? They are no sako but money spent it's a good deal. Keep up the good work.
Glad to see this reveiw. I've been considing one of these rifles. Have you shot without the "can" on the end. If so do you notice any accuracy difference without can (better or worse)?
The barrel might be tuned to the brake it came with as well. The can might not be ideal for barrel harmonics, especially on such a light barrel profile. I have heard people say the same thing about the Kimber Mountain Ascent (similar profile barrel). I have personally found that the lighter the barrel, the more harmonics, and cold bore shots are affected. That being said, my sporter barrel rifle shoots a half-inch group on the cold bore if I give it about 10 minutes between shot. If I don't, the cold bore is consistently an inch left of the rest of my group. Took my big brake off, and it shoots the cold bore right in the center of just about any group. Harmonics are some black magic witchery.
@@zZTOPZzzZGUNZz I’m debating trying a tuner. Mixed views on them though.. Just when I read something that makes sense I read something else that makes me question.. lol
Copper boolet guys say you have to clean your bore to bare metal to group best. They say you cannot shoot a cup and core bullet and then a copper bullet your groups will suffer. It's the internet.
Hey, love your show. Have you tried a muzzle break from JCB SOLUTIONS? I purchased his dominator for my 350 legend scout pistol. It reduced the muzzle jump from 44 rem mag like jump to 32 h&r mag. Muzzle jump. I was amazed. His prices and shipping are reasonable. You might want to check him out. His name is Jason and he really seems to be a cool cat.
How do you like the stock on that Bergara? i see they filled it with some kind of foam or something. Does the stock feel cheap? I have yet to see one around here where I live in Maine. I was contemplating getting one of those rifles, that is why I ask. Another great video! Thank You!
Can't decide on a budget scope to replace my 1994 3x9x40 Bushnell scope on my Rem 700 in 270 (30 yrs of advancements in scopes). Did you say the other day you did a budget scope video? Looked in your channel but may have missed it -- you make a lot of vids. lol Enjoy your vids -- new Sub!
@@ULFISHGETTER Thanks, I'm East TN but hunt fields/power lines enjoy 200-250 yd shots. I'll look at that Leupold, I like them, but those Arkens are tempting lol. Thanks 4 reply
@@d.b.cooper6112 arken is a little more than you’ll need. A 2-7 or 3-9 Leupold will be all you’ll need. Unless you dial, hold for wind, or long range hunt. No need for Arken. Reticle is crowded as well
I'll ask again can we please go to 5 shot groups. I would rather see 2 5 shot groups than 3 , 3 shot groups it just tells you more info faster. Most people that think they have a 1 MOA gun realize they don't when they switch to 5 shots at a time.
Hey get yourself a mosquito thermo cell there awesome for keeping the mosquitoes and nats away from you runs off a butane cartridge and mosquito insect pad and you can get a belt holster so you can use it while you're hunting
Totally out of curiosity, since I own a bergara too in .308 but i have no possibility of trying it here where i live (suppressors are still illegal to own in italy), how does the suppressor affects accuracy and grouping on a rifle like that and with that calibre? 😁 also Thank you! I love your videos.
@@WHOTEEWHO Thank you for answering my question! Hopefully in the next years supressors law will change here too and we will able to try them finally! 😁
