Winter is here and soon the pond will be freezing over. Let's see if adding aeration to the pond will keep area from freezing, so the ducks have water to stay in.

Aeration in the pond will slow the freezing but will not stop it if the weather gets too cold. Two aerators in my half acre pond in Ohio did not stop the pond from freezing once the temperature dropped below 18 degrees.

The ducks saw the bubbles, thought the snapping turtle, didn't want to stick around to find out what's in the pound now!!! Lol

Air bubbles will mix the water column thereby mixing the warmer water on the bottom with the surface water. Part of the reason you were advised to place the bubblers in the deepest pond area was to maximize the mix and the ice elimination. I live on a canal that joins Lake Erie, people with permanent docks use bubblers to keep ice away from docks i the winter

My dad's neighbor at the lake uses one to keep ice away from his concrete patio. The hole it creates in the ice is so large along the shore. My dad has open water in front of his house. He'd need a boat to go ice fishing!!

You're a handy guy, I would build my dock, run conduit on the underside supplying power to the land end and the far water end. Next you can build an insulated box to house the pump which could serve a dual purpose as a fishing seat. You two have a MERRY CHRISTMAS.

David Smith also had a good idea. Tie lines to the diffuser bases with floats on the lines. Easy to find gives you a way to pull the diffusers up without lifting them by the air hose (which you somehow will have to get your hands on. Also, it will ensure the base is lowered flat on the bottom and not cocked at an angle.

In the army we used sandbags to enclose our generators to reduce the sound. A small sandbag hut with a plywood roof with sandbags on top should solve the noise issue. Sandbags are cheap and come in several colors. Sand or dirt absorb all or most vibration or sound from an engine. More bags equal less sound. Three bags thick and you will not hear anything unless you are standing right next to it.

If you attached a line to the diffuser and the other end to a buoy you could pull them up by the rope rather than the line when needed. Good luck with the pond. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🙏🙏🙏
