Bryson Dechambeau is now ranked 10th in the world golf rankings solely on his play at the majors since he hasn’t played on the PGA tour in almost 2 years. That is impressive.
I remember when Bryson came in second behind Scottie S. in the major before the US Open, Bryson immediately approached Scottie to congratulate him on the win. Not sure how the majority of fans feel but I am equally as inspired by a player’s show of character as I am by the amazing level of their playing ability. Who they are as a person is a huge part of the story.
I'm not a golf fan, but I enjoy watching Bryson on RU-vid basically playing HORSE on a golf course. His personality and approach to the game are what make me root for him. I wish more athletes were like him instead of having a podcast.
Bryson is the story. It’s his 2nd US Open win. McIlroy to me was an afterthought. Cantlay and Finau were in the mix too. Bryson found a way to get focused during this tournament and was able to concentrate on his game. He dispels the notion that you need to play the PGA Tour to be good enough to win majors.
I'm no LIV supporter, but Dan should watch the LIV events before judging. They're super entertaining and this season they've been miles better than the product the PGA Tour offered.
That 55 yard bunker shot of BD on 18 was so hard and simply phenomenal. I think BD hit 4 fairways in the last round. He scrambled and was awesome. Very entertaining. Watch how BD develops and the crowds in The Open in July. He will be winning and the people's golfer. Not since 1959 do I remember this kind of energy. Tiger the GOAT is a different vibe. Never seen a winner bring the trophy to the crowds to just touch it. He is a different phenom. Enjoyed it immensely.
So Dan, you can leave ESPN for a better job, but the LIV guys can’t leave the PGA tour for a better job. Makes perfect sense to me. What time you due back in Boys Town?
Whats more mind blowing is that Bryson a week ago on his youtbe ch. was playing with old wooden clubs, and walmart clubs as a challenge. Laugh out loud??
@@Rob123robexcept he didn’t… lol and Tuesday he’s filming another one. And you know that It was filmed the week before because of detailed conversations that aren’t possible unless it’s the time that It is
Will definitely be remembered for Bryson and the tremendous ambassador he is but also infamous for how a famous player can damage their brand but not shaking winners hand or facing the media. For Rory 35 years old he acted like a spoiled and immature teenager. Absolutely pathetic. He is the idol and fan to so many juniors and for him to act like a complete prick is a disgrace. He absolutely crushed his reputation here. Egotistical and a narcissist.
Hey Dan, what LIV event have you attended or watched to be able to make a fair and open minded decision about LIV? They are trying to something different with team and being international but you seem to want them to just be like the PGAT and then it would be direct competition. If PGAT hadn’t banned these guys, some of them would still play in PGAT events but PGAT is the one keeping them from playing together. Think about it with open eyes and mind.
Media personalities can’t do anything with an open mind. Dan Patrick is a media personality. He speaks what the NFL tells him too and all the major sports leaders. He is a sheep
Dan also failed to mention how if the pga tour actually paid its players what they were worth and gave them media rights, etc., liv would not be a thing. Mickelson made it clear that liv was an opportunity that created leverage to change the pga tour for the better for players.
Media obsession for majors success is only rivalled by their obsession for wining majors. Golf is such a different sport. The best golfer in the world can be beaten by an average golfer having his best week ever and that can happen over and over again. Tiger only won so many majors because there was daylight between him and the rest of the field. So he could have an average tournament and still beat everybody else. Rory is fantastic golfer with incredible longevity but he has a lot of competition who are on par with him.
@@Mike-id7bh Exactly. Out of all the pros of his generation, Tiger was the only one that had the ability to separate himself by a considerable amount compared to the field. Tiger is an anomaly in the world of golf
@@sweetrobertos Yep. I'll now have Rory and that straight 3 footer stowed with Jordan at the 12th at Augusta and Rory on the 10th at Augusta. Been seeing some more surprise snap hooks out of Rory of late - when he's otherwise incredible off the tee. Golf is too hard.
Love Bryson, but to the poll question, the answer is Rory McIlroy. As captivating as Bryson was all week, ask yourself this: who beat Jean van de Velde at Carnoustie in 1999? Only hard-core golf fans can answer that question, but so many more people know Jean van de Velde now, 25 years later, because of his 18th hole meltdown. Maybe the answer proves to be Bryson's win after all, but let me say this: his win will never be discussed without simultaneously talking about Rory's meltdown.
Dan… I agree LIV isn’t PGA but it is a proper tournament and yes there is pressure. They are playing for serious cash. No pressure of making cuts but there is pressure. Look how Sergio folded twice when he should have won
It’s not even close, this will definitely be remembered as the US Open that Rory lost. It’s the same as Norman losing the Masters to Faldo. That’s remembered for Norman shooting 78, not for Faldo shooting 67.
I think it’s obvious the PGA tried to use Bryson in a certain image and push him down the heel road. Especially with all the BS they promoted with Brooks Keopka. Bryson may not have helped himself by how he reacted, but the PGA pushed him away. Now he can have his own brand, have some time off, have the rights to his own media, and return mentally fresh for the majors.
@@MSDOGS1976 if your honest response is “what are you talking about,” then you don’t keep up with golf very well. The money just made it easier. They offered Rory 3x as much and he didn’t go because he’s the PGA poster boy. Do some research.
@@MSDOGS1976He left for a better deal, especially for him. He has the freedom to build his brand in golf when he’s not playing in LIV events. PGA Tour guys are owned by the tour. So far, Bryson is the only one who is taking advantage of the opportunity that being a true independent contractor affords. They all want the money, so it’s not quite right to blame the guys who took it. TV money and corporate sponsorships aren’t bringing in the cash to keep purses increasing faster than inflation.
It’s really about time everyone grew up. No one is entitled to win majors. ALL the greats had plenty of second places. Rory is still only 35 years old & in the prime of his game. He must suck this one up & start aiming towards the next one. He owes nothing to the media who are hell bent on hanging him out to dry instead of recognizing his great contributions to the game of golf. However, he could have congratulated Bryson.
Been watching DP for years and lately I’ve noticed just how many times each show he says,”I said before …….” Come on man, just because you’re getting lapped by newer shows don’t become THAT guy who makes sure to remind people of what you said or “predicted.” You’re bigger man than that DP 🤦🏻♂️Act like you’ve been there before.
Your views on Brycen are entirely formed by The Golf Channel. You’ve missed who Brycen is. This is how this US open will be remembered: Rory misses 3 gimmies in his last 4 holes, and Brycen makes the most difficult shot in golf to win the US Open. End of story.
Get this McIlroy wins 2.3 million. he runs of like a 10 year old kid. He disrespects his fans and Bryson, cant even speak to the press cant even say well done to the winner, He should give all that money to charity he does not deserve it. I hope this loss destroys him.
Couldn't handle the fact that a LIV player beat him. Use to be a McIlroy fan... Not now. Bryson was seen shaking the hand of the winner at the PGA championship when he lost list.
Bryson’s win was bigger and will be remembered by his up&down from the bunker on hole 18. Rory missed 2 crucial putts, but he also made some of the longest putts of the day which normally don’t go in for him more times than not. You’ve gotta realize that Bryson gave him every opportunity to win by only hitting 5 fairways on a course where putting the ball on the fairway is crucial. Bryson had to switch out his driver before the round started..taking away the part of his game that gives him the most edge over other players. Give credit where it’s due.
We have all pulled a short putt. Then the next time you get a short putt you leave the blade a little open and miss. But for it to happen when it did to Rory.. I was going for Bryson all week and glad that he won, but that was the most gut wrenching loss I have seen since Van de Velde.
Sometimes a golfer will win by dominating, sometimes a golfer will win because the other guy makes a mistake. Kind of like tennis; one way to win in tennis is just to outlast your opponent. Keep hitting it back and let the other guy put his into the net. Both played well to be 1 and 2 in the home stretch of day four; the different comes down to just a few shots. Bryson made his pitch and Rory missed his putts and that is the summary of 4 days of 18 holes!
after that bunker shot at 18, it's Bryson winning. Seriously, though.. after how animated he was and his connection with the crowd, both during and after the round, I can't remember Rory being apart of it. Bryson show all the way and it wont be long before he's world #1, really might be already, world rank #10 with just majors counting
Rory does not have a caddy on his bag. He has his best mate, who is simply someone handing him clubs who is not allowed to advise Rory. When Rory had an older wiser professional caddy years ago he won majors, but he didn't like taking advice because at heart, he is an immature spoilt brat.
Faldo a 6 time major winner invited Rory to his farm to help him read greens to improve putting and dial in his short irons. Rory needs to take him up on this… it’s so sad to see someone so good not cross the finish line. Bryson is my favorite golfer now. If you are not a Bryson fan I encourage you to watch one video on his RU-vid channel. He means well
Rory should remember Payne Stewart .In the end it’s still a game and at the end of the day I you can’t shake Hands with your opponent and still be friends then you’ve missed the point.
Well said. Bryson had a better body of work over the 4 rounds. You could say that if Bryson doesn't spray the ball all over the property on Sunday Rory doesn't have a chance on Sunday regardless if he makes those putts or not.
Roy losing, obviously. Two missed short puts gave the trophy to DeChambeau. Congratulations to him for him winning but seriously if those puts go in he would have been one short. Bryson had the great fortune of his multiple bad tee shots into the native areas never stopping behind the reed grass. This allowed him to get the ball on/near the green and not lose strokes. He also missed a short put. An exciting final round for sure but not the cleanest golf on the final 5/6 holes. Very difficult course/greens.
No, Rory gifted wrapped it and handed him the open on a sliver platter. He was one over for the day and was so lucky with his ability to hit the ball out of that wire grass. Rory had beat him by five strokes thru 14 and then a poor club selection on 15 and 2 short missed putts on 16 & 18 cost Rory the Open. Bryson played great the first three rounds but not the last. Smith ran Rory down in the British Open but still Rory was under par , Smith just made putt after putt. There is no defense in golf. So he won it , Rory didn’t lose it. Last Sunday for some reason Rory gave this one away.
Liked the segment, disagree about the you gotta talk to the media take. It was pointed out he has a record of being available to the media. To bring up Bill Buckner is not fair because that's a team sport and Rory is in Year 17 of an individual sport career. It's just a bad comparison. It's bryson moment, do we really need to see Rory talk to the media at what he said was the toughest day of his career? Seemed like a good opportunity to cut the guy a break, he's getting eviscerated on social media for missing putts and failing to win, which is fair game. who cares if he talks to the media, guy is a human being, that was absolutely brutal to lose. in this circumstance i strongly disagree that Rory is in the wrong for skipping media, i personally give him an easy pass.
It was almost a given that rory would choke, so I'll remember it for Bryon's great performance and victory. And I'll remember it for again how classless family-deserting Chamblee and disgraced Golf Network again showed their true nature in coverage.
Rory loses it not Bryson winning it. Bryson was one over and Rory had him 2 up with 4 to go. Two mental errors!!! Not saying that up and down on 18 was outstanding but it shouldn’t have matter. Yes, I know it did!!!
Did Dan really mention liv players wearing shorts as a reason why they don’t take their tournaments seriously. That’s an old man’s take if I ever heard one
Rewind 28 years ago and Nick Faldo won the Masters. You know he won but real golf fans know it was the Masters Greg Norman lost. So this tournament will be known the same way. Rory should have won but 28 years from now it will still be associated with them both together.
Rory is a sore loser, period. Don’t have to go back in ancient history to see how second place finishers should behave… look at Bryson congratulating Xander at the PGA championship losing by one stroke. Shame on you Rory.
I quite surprised that despite being one of sport’s „Top“ commentators and professed avid golfer, how uninformed Dan & Crew are pertaining to LIV Golf, as well as Brysons‘ contributions to golf recognition via social media. Although sometimes / somewhat „over the top“, LIV‘s TV & event production is setting examples that the PGA would do well to heed.
It’s definitely Bryson who stole the weekend. His performance Saturday & Sunday were what won him the tournament. You have to remember after Saturday the whole media world was all in on Bryson, then he closed the deal Sunday. Rory definitely choked, but I do think Bryson is the bigger story.
Bryson DeChambeau will be remembered for his genius and his interaction with the fans. Many feel Rory was disrespectful by not congratulating Bryson or attending the press conference.
Bull he doesn’t owe the media anything after that. He choked plain and simple. He didn’t want to talk about it I have no problem with it. Dans a media that wants the sound bite.
You are giving Liv golf a discredit, the fields at Liv are superior to the boring robot Pga players, Liv took all the who do you want to watch players across to their league, I only watch the majors now on the Pga tour, the other fake world ranking events are irrelevant.
Hands down it’s about Bryson winning. Rory choking is not breaking news as it’s a regularity. Bryson winning was entertaining tv because no one celebrates and engages the fan like he does. Also it was a LiV statement breaking into the one sided PGA controlled golf world. It was must see tv the pga has been desperately wanting and realizing that it took a LIV player to obtain it. Now this is exactly what the US Ryder cup needs and denying Bryson or any top player is a travesty and simply ignorant. Don’t repeat what Zack Johnson tragically did in selecting players based on friendships and not by fielding the best team.
As a golf fan, I’ve been tired of all the Rory McIlroy propaganda for quite a few years since tigers know where to be found they had to prop up the PGA tour with Rory, and let’s face it Rory‘s not up to it, in the history of the game how many great swings have come and gone many?, Rory has 20 wins in 15 years is that right? There’s a whole bunch of players that are better than Roy McElroy historically. and acting like the petulant child and climbing in his complimentary Lexus for the week tells you everything you need to know, maybe he needs to go work at his dad‘s pub and get refocused, Reality, check. as far as majors. I think he’s cooked pull out a Ouija board and ask Sam Snead, how devastating the yips can be…
