The ✨Limited Edition✨Determinator 3000 Pin is here to help you decide! But there’s one last choice you need to make fast - pre-order now or regret it forever. Only available for 24 more hours on the kurzgesagt shop: shop.kgs.link/DeterminatorPin
So it is not removing decision making to your life, but actually adding more of it. First the decision on whether to use it for a decision. Second, if you will listen to the outcome or not.
I have the emotional intelligence to tell what sort of marketing tricks companies are pulling and i have the willpower to avoid giving these companies money. If you fill a country with people with high emotional intelligence then the market will shift to something more socially cohesive and less competitive.
@@masol3726 Many people have the basic IQ/EQ to understand what they are doing, but still can't overcome the impulse. You say that, but Japan with some of the highest IQ populace has/had the most egregious Gacha mechanics in their games. China as well
Not the only reason. Economies of scale is another. It’s much cheaper to make a lot of something at once than it is to make a few of that same thing. The equipment has to be calibrated and materials set up to build the thing, and it’s time consuming and expensive to do it over and over as orders come in. All of Kurzgesagt’s timed products are preorders, so they’re getting the number required ahead of time so they can ask for that number to be made from the factory. That way they can charge the consumer less for the product and still be able to make the thing they want to make. That said, it’s definitely leveraging FOMO with the emphasis on ‘never again’ on a lot of these. I wish they’d just cut that out and start bringing back old merch occasionally. Reruns are nice.
Why don't you have an actual photo of the Determinator 3000 in the video or on your website?? The photoshop mock-ups are not enough to gauge what this thing will look like in your hand or on a denim lapel.
My bet: they don't have the actual finished product yet probably and only prototypes, hoping the first sales will pay for manufacturing costs. It is a "preorder". Edit: also enamel pins, especially with moving parts. Are expensive and complicated to make, so this way they can more easily match demand without the risk of over or underproducing stock.
I have all pins of the red color collection (their previous pin series) and each one of them is super high quality. I am sure this one will be too. The first pin in the previous series also had a spinning wheel to decide the fate of the universe, just like this one.
@@PeppoMusic yes, I understand that is usually the case, in part to watching other creator's, like LTT, journey with making products. SURELY they have 1 final product in their hands. Or a prototype that's 'finalized' enough for them to say 'yes, this is what we're going to sell 20k units of, and ship for free.' Sending product photos to team members in different regions is a breeze these days. It's not a big deal and I will still likely purchase one to support creators I like. Just a little apprehensive at first when buying something sight unseen AND without real photos of it. Have to temper expectations either before buying it or after receiving it.
@@lyliandubost2491 Yes, it's very sad that the team of people running an entertaining & informational channel providing value to millions of people should earn some money or god forbid make some profit.
costed me €15.12 when bought with a tshirt (discount included), and shipping's actually extremely cheap (7€) considering that some youtubers ship from overseas and have €40+ shipping fees
@@Didomate It absolutely is. It's an item you can only purchase within 72 hours and then probably never again. Best example for FOMO marketing there is.
@@DTpower_GER What makes a FOMO marketing may I ask? Is it the limited time or limited quantity element? Like, what if they say they have already made 3000 pins, which will no longer be available after sold out, is it still a FOMO scheme? What if instead of 24 or 72 hours, a creator decides to sell a different new pin each year. It’s still a FOMO scheme, right?
You were determined to not buy it, once you have no free will. Fighting against causality (=determinism) is stupid, it’s like fighting against the fact that you’re alive, while being alive …
Could it have been presented better? Absolutely. But I enjoy this channel and realize they have bills to pay. I'm treating it like a donation where I also get a small novelty thing with it. If you don't want to/can't donate then no one is making you.
@@bait5257if you think ads and propaganda are the same thing, get some help. And i‘d rather watch an ad instead of having to buy nonsense merch to support this channel.
The philosophical problem here is determinism isn't random. Since 'free will' is pretty much only defined as 'not determinism', it would make much more sense if the pin was called "Free-Willinator 3000". I know the pin isn't truly random, i.e., physics determine the result, but it has the appearance of being random.
"will this vid be deleted in 24hrs?" I'd fkn hope so, the whole video is just an ad. People without adblockers probably had to watch 2 ads to watch this ad
@@BixbyConsequenceIt’s not about whether WE want to buy it or not. It’s that fact that FOMO takes advantage of people. It’s not right dude, especially coming from an educational channel.
Glad someone agrees. With the number of people supporting them on Patreon and the amount of ad revenue the channel must be making I don't understand why they're still selling out like this.
@@akhipazham7270 I use the firefox plugin "Return RU-vid Dislikes" to see them. There are probaby similiar options for other browsers and maybe mobile(?).
"Available for only the next 24 hours." (And the previous 48 hours it was already on the site, if you saw one of the other shorts/videos mentioning it. :) )
Kürzgesagt really should put a disclaimer that the video notification is an ad and not a full length video. I bet you ALL of those dislikes would vanish if they did. Most people see the notification and get excited, before getting the realisation that it's an advert for merch. Nobody's saying that the ads are bad or that the merch is bad, just that the videos promoting merch are possibly misleading.
No, many of us are saying the ads are bad. As someone who's been subscribed for years..... Not sure how much longer I'll be willing to tolerate their decline. They're ones changing, I'm still the same.
Every second release recently has been an ad. And the ad has a little tiny notice saying so in the bottom right corner. That all said, I too am disappointed in this new behavior.
@@JohnDoe-pk2hsdude they have been selling pins for like 5 years. And their videos in many ways are better than ever. If you compare their videos now to 8 years ago it's no contest, even 5 years ago. And their best videos are probably all from the last 3 years. Even looking at one of the videos that made them huge, Dyson sphere, that looks quaint now
I don't get why literally every video has the title changed within like 5 minutes of the upload. Are you just that indecisive or is this some RU-vid metagame thing???
i’m all for “a creator should know their worth and value their product as they see fit” so i’m just going to have to sadly miss out on this as usual for other merch since 26$ pre-tax and pre-shipping for one pin while i make minimum wage is about 2 hours of work. I hope as a fan in the lower financial class that you guys either produce lower-end products down the road, or that the universe blesses me with a greater opportunity since joy and fun shouldn’t be exclusive to those that can afford it :(
You are so right AND I'm certain that you're constantly increasing the value you bring to your company through education and holding yourself to ever-higher standards and that you're not letting those efforts go unnoticed by neglecting to communicate with your supervisor about the disparity between the value you bring and the compensation you receive.
Fucking hate FOMO strategies and limited shit, + impossible for true collectors to start your pins collection and get a hand on everything released, so I’ll vote with my wallet and punish by not buying you anything
Me: *Sees title asking me if i should watch this video* *Thumbnail says yes* "Eh ... I'll skip it" *Watches another video* *Looks back at feed* *Thumbnail now says no* "Ok NOW I'll watch it"
it is sad that the market pushes for items targeted at less intelligent or gullible people, for instance scams. Because they are more likely to be purchased. Since intelligent people think before they purchase things, thus they buy fewer items. This causes a chasm between items that are useful and items that are made to trick people which have a harder time staying on the market. It almost seems like, if you are not able to make the most useful item, then you need to add marketing to trick people into buying your product instead of the better one. It would be great if price was actually reflective of quality, but that would require infrastructure that is either too complicated to setup right away, or too oppressive for a positive economy.
Just an FYI but your comment comes off as you thinking this collectable pin is actually being sold as an advanced decision making/anti-free will device and not being framed that way as a joke.
Free will existing or not is a false dichotomy. Every person exists at some point on the free will spectrum and our positions fluctuate with mood, energy, intoxicants, hormones, etc.
