What is the Acclimation system in Pantheon?
With the start of Season 3 of testing for the Indie PVE MMORPG we got to see for ourselves exactly how devastating it can be as it snared us, debuffed us, froze our UI and well...killed us.
Climates in Pantheon are no joke, but thankfully there are ways to combat them with natural acclimation and different glyphs to prepare you for the harsh environment.

Climate and environment damage is always a great addition, I loved it in Ark and Conan Exiles.

What I'm most excited for is not just the game itself, but the day this game inevitably comes out, and people _finally_ stop pissing and moaning about how long it's taken. Then they can all _finally_ move on with their lives. Thats the big true.

WOW, this game is finally starting to look like a game made this decade. When they first starting testing it looked like the 90’s EverQuest. It’s finally coming together and when you think about the fact that it’s basically been in production for like 15-16 years now. At one point I know that you could see what the game was and the production type of game they wanted to make. Then it got scrapped and started to being rebuilt and the work that was done was probably more of a proof of concept type game.

This game seems over the top hardcore. Like to the point it seems to be a burden. I hope they dial it back some. I know it is Alpha still. Btw will you cover EQ2's Origins server once it actually goes live?

Playing it it generally feels around the same difficulty as eq. Maybe easier. There's just some different ways they present difficulty. Still plenty of balancing to go though and trying to find thst sweet spot. As for eq2, yep. Plan to play it and review it. I'm very curious to see how they handle this.

@@RedbeardflynnMy main concern is that whenever I see game developers spending an inordinate amount of effort on environmental effects/mechanics, it's usually because they lack the creativity necessary to actually put flesh on the skeleton of the world they're trying to make. This is stuff you add AFTER everything else is done. Mainly, fully populated zones with an established history, accessible lore to find and explore, NPCs both static & mobile that go about their lives and all have something different to say to a wanderer passing through versus a hometown hero, etc. So far, all I'm seeing is mechanical stuff. Kinda like busywork performed to keep everyone (especially themselves) distracted from the fact that they so far don't have a story to tell. But it's the stories that make us WANT to enjoy the suffering their mechanistic world inflicts. The fact that this has been "in development" since 2014 and still seems so...empty? Not a good sign. I mean, if you're on the autism spectrum and your best possible world is one that's devoid of anything but impersonal nature, this is your game! For the rest of us, they better start pumping LIFE into it, or it's going to end up as a lifelong hobby they'll take unfinished with them into the afterlife. 🤷‍♂️

@@brianmurphy6480 I gotta agree with you in part and disagree in part. I do agree the game *needs* its pulse system in to give the Quests and lore more life, but the world itself is built around lore. The NPCs have routines, the locations already have uniqueness too them. I'd also say weather and climate effects are essential for me in an MMO to change it from game to world because it removes the static feel. I even struggle in EQ because its so static. It doesnt change. Even UO had more weather diversity. Do you not feel like the current zones have life to them? Lore to them? Beyond that: Climate has been a core tenent of Pantheon since the very beginning so not making sure this system is in and working would be a betrayal of the core tenets of the game, and it was added as part of the add-on for this season which specifically was about adding hanggore, the snowy area full of orcs and boars and spiders, an orc chief and its wyvern pet in its own special cavern beneath the orc chieftan's hut.

I hear you. I played eq since day 1 till wow came out and wow just never really let us attach ourselves to the characters. years later u log in here and find its the same as eqor less deep it absolutely will be a let down. We cannot log in here and go " you mean i could have just logged into everquest to reminisce? Has to be chalk full of nostalgic stuff but bring something more..

and if they come out anytime soon this game cant survive bcs everything in game is outdated from combat,animation,graphics,mehanics mobs/boss!i play everqest for years,but now its impposible back to this.I talk as a experienced game who is 25 years in this genre!

While I can appreciate that environment damage makes the game more immersive and realistic (if you can call anything about a fantasy MMO realistic), it just adds a layer of "management" that doesn't jive with me. I hated it in Conan Exiles. All it did was make me avoid that area as much as possible. When I had to go there to get something I couldn't get elsewhere, I was in and out as quick as I could go because it was too much hassle to explore more. In the end, if this is a major component to this game, I am willing to accept that it is just not for me and that's ok.

I think as they tune it around the acclimation system which includes natural acclimation from existing in the climate as well as glyphs it'll become something that adds more than it takes away but I definitely get where you're coming from because that's how I feel about consumables (bring x potion to raid type things)

I like redbeards posts and he seems like an honest good guy. Im eagerly awaiting another immersive mmo and followee pantheon for many years. Has he said its fun? For so much time sunk, years gone by the content seems so limited. Is combat fun? When are races coming ? He must have a real consenus now if the game is just a paid hobby for years for a few lucky folks calling themselves devs or more then that. Like with m&m, evercraft, (any others) is this really really the one to stick with ? Also u put out a video on a scam mmo a few weeks back, realistically alot at this point think this is a scan. Do you feel them at all? I do like reds videos, so genuine and u can tell hes humbled to have folks watching him play video games lol!

First, thank you so much for the kind words. They mean a lot! As for the game: it's currently the most fun I'm having in an mmo but that said its still got a long way to go. They hit rock bottom to end 2023 and seem to have course corrected in 2024 and are making steady progress. Best thing I could suggest is if you're on the fence try to wait for a free weekend or win a giveaway to try it yourself. Your opinion is always going yo be infinitely more valuable than mine. If a free weekend comes up I'll be sure to post about it like I did with the upcoming mnm test. Cheers bud

I mean, glyphs etc. to resist the cold is just fine - But…what really helps…is winterclothing. Nice little wintercoat and a bear hat will get you far!

Honestly, I have NEVER liked survival mechanics in any game, and tend to avoid games with them, unless they have that certain something else that makes it tolerable. New Vegas for instance, was incredible enough to tolerate Hardcore Mode (once), Nightingale tickles the right bones in my body to accept it....but typically, hard pass. I need to survive every day, it brings me no joy to have to think about that when playing a game. Still have cautious hopes for Pantheon though! Love your videos!

Give us more classes and races, Jesus. As a now paid vip, I expect ed more races sooner than later. Also cohhcarnage, (a major investor) which I called out earlier in the forums, and Joppa said he would say something soon, has been largely silent for the complete seasons. No streams, nada. Not a good sign.

Summoner and Ranger are coming in 5 weeks along with Ogre. I wouldn't look into Cohh streaming or not streaming. He's got a game he's a big part of (Emberville) and I believe he's now also working with another company for indie games? Dude is busy ontop of his streaming schedule.

This is Everquest all over again. Guess you have to have some resistance :) To bad that this is not what player wants anymore. Maybe there will be like 1000 people enjoying. Since it will be hard to get the EQ players that are doing TLP's and end game raids. I love it. But will I play? I don't really know. Have to have something that no other game have

That's what made EQ so popular: it appealed to the hard-core role-playing element that started with Dungeons & Dragons and saw it come to life in 3D on their computer screen. We helped MAKE EverQuest so darn popular. Then they saw the subscription numbers and started thinking that EVERY game had to have hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of users before it could be termed a "success." Chasing that dragon is what kills more than just heroin users. Make a game that appeals to the hard-core audience you're specifically targeting, and they'll keep it alive and going long after the inevitable flood of tourists have drained away. Nothing appeals to everybody, and if you try, you end up with something that's enjoyed by nobody. 🤷‍♂️

Firstly, I love environmental and weather effects. However, I see this system having all the same problems as "keying" and "backflagging" in EQ. Creating a massive barrier of entry for group play/co-op. It's not quite as egregious since you can still enter the areas, but if the effects are devastating without doing the quests and getting pre-requisite glyphs, etc., then it could be just as bad.

sorry but what would you want then? not having goals and challenges to overcome? thats the foundation of mmorpgs. You dont go the himalaya without the proper preparations anyway.
