The Spanish Flea bit was so dark. Lisa's father is gone and she's just lying there alone listening to his voice being so light and happy. It reminds me how much childlike joy and love Homer gave to his children and how they'll never be able to share moments like this with him ever again. There is something so depressing about listening to a dead person's happy voice on a recording.
@@StarDustTF2 oh how clever, such an original and not at all dated insult I'm sure when your momma brings down your pizza rolls to the basement she will be real proud 🙄
There was a little Spanish flea A record star he thought he'd be He went driving while tired and crashed into a chestnut tree All because of Bart and Lis
I think I get it. 'Mount Splashmore' is a codeword for death, or at least the possibility of an afterlife from the Simpsons universe. Bart and Lisa asking Homer to "take us to Mount Splashmore" was them begging to be involved in some sort of mass family suicide pact, clearly distressing Homer (not wanting to murder his kids and leave his wife completely alone) but eventually bringing him to a compromise. By taking his own life first, his children decide themselves whether to stay on earth or join Homer in 'Mount Splashmore' at whatever a time they feel ready, and Lisa's trip to the suicide bridge leaves viewers on a cliffhanger as to what her decision ends up being. Powerful stuff.
My father died almost a year ago and the last recording I have of him was singing me happy birthday, so Lisa's part listening to Homer singing Spanish Flea really hit close to home.
@@DarkSimpsons Agreed. And I really can't throw stones: have you ever seen any of my videos? I don't know how to do it all fancy like everyone else, so I just point my phone at the screen and record. >
The presence of Bleeding Gums Murphy just made this one kind of confusing. I thought the joke was that Lisa was joining him and using her grief over Homer's death to fuel her music or something.
I was looking for classic simpsons videos in 2019 to watch with my friends and I added this to the playlist by accident. We all got to experience this blindly and loved it so much! Thank you thank you
“Bart, it’s school policy to make children in your situation hall monitor for a year” “Get out! What’s the catch?” “The tragic loss of your father” “Ah yes, ghastly business that”
Homer takes bart and lisa to "mount splashmore" but homer takes a detour to moe's, it's there when bart and lisa meets: Mr. Plow, Plow King and Lovely Moe
Sometimes I think the death of Homer would be the best for Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie. Marge would be free from her husband's chaotic behaviour (she can work, as we've seen in various episodes) and has a more or less solid family; her sisters could help her with the kids. Patty and Selma could even enjoy some company and responsibility, helping both women to be more positive and who knows... they would even get married, thanks to the temporary "maternity". Bart would find a real paternal figure if his mom could marry again and/or in other masculine friend (that way, Bart would feel loved and get better in school). Maybe Ned Flanders, as we saw in that episode, would be willing to fill Bart's paternal void, effectively turning his life 360 degrees, for good. Lisa would stop trying so hard to get her father's attention and she would be happier and optimistic, since her unreceptive father is no longer there. Hence, she would make the effort to make real friends for the first time and take real emotional risks, outside her brainy comfort zone. Maggie is still a baby and she wouldn't suffer that much for the loss. She would probably behave as Lisa given the chance to grow beside Homer, trying to seek an unfullfiling love through the eyes of an incompetent and careless father. In conclusion... HOLY SHIT.
Another excelent video! Also I want to give some friendly advise: don't let the desire of ever higher levels of quality prevent you from enjoyingthe simpler pleasures of life; a bartrape episode here and there for the old fans is always welcome!!
Your videos are art! I wish one day you make something with Frank Grimes or that one horror episode, where Groundskeeper Willie burns alive right in the class and then hunt the kids in their dreams
A bit strange to see digital/HD animation stills being used to set up the scenes as they were all from the 90's, but the quality of editing was still top notch so that's the important thing!
I honestly expected the one scene where their car crashes into a tree and explodes into a burning wreck and then the camera pans out to show bart watching from the window and saying "glad that wasn't us!" but without the pull back. I think that may have been the Itchy and Scratchy Land episode, lol. I never thought I'd say this but it could've used more rape.
Homer lost sleep because of their asking to be taken to mount splashmore yet the kids didn’t 😂 Also he’s just exhausted, Marge said as Homer happily and energetically opened his car 😂
