We are one week into the release of Zenless Zone Zero, and I've just completed chapter 3 of the story. As a veteran hoyoverse and gacha player, I wanted to share my opinions on the state of the game and whether or not it will last in the long run. I compare it to some other big games in the space like Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, and Wuthering Waves. I do not think the game is as bad as some people say, but it does have some issues that need to be addressed. Let me know what you think.

>"After the first couple hours" >Enemies don't start to actually fight back until Account/Inter-Knot level 34 I don't expect most people to stick around for that long to get a taste of more proper combat, and I'd say that's still just mid game without having properly leveled gear. Combat is satistfying from the moment you jump into Wuwa and Genshin. The first couple days feel like an absolute chore in ZZZ. I almost dropped it but stuck on to the promise that the end game was more challenging and got super lucky on the pulls. I sincerely think the character designs are great and I the game has a lot of potential. But as time passes, more games and competition will come out so mihoyo will actually need to step up if they want this game to compete

My only other frame of reference is Genshin but it's kind of refreshing to have 80% of my failures come from the HP bar running out, not the timer. I'm also a newbie and the ice stacks always bait me though.

TV mode is cool, they just need to avoid stopping you every 0.5 seconds for some animation or so someone can talk. Also cannot agree that character designs are lackluster. I think 90% of the designs are fantastic and I hope they continue with the style they have now instead of catering to Genshin players.

character design are subjective I don't like medieval style i like urban and modern drip so this game character ia definitely hit my mark

I’m enjoying ZZZ quite a bit. I found the story rather gripping for the most part and the combat thrilling. Now is some of my enjoyment also coming from the fact that it’s on PS5 at launch and I got Ellen/her W-Engine in 30 pulls? Yes, yes it is 😁. Though one complaint I have after playing WuWa is the stingiest with pulls in ZZZ (as well as all Hoyo games) is way more apparent and only getting your Standard S-rank selector after 300 pulls vs 80 in WuWa feels bad. With how crucial it is to get characters that work well together and feel good for you to pilot, not being able to select the S-rank you want for months just sucks 😮‍💨

It does feel weird after being treated so well in WuWa, but I do think the reason Hoyo was relatively generous with pulls for this release is because the pressure Kuro is putting on them. I hope that trend continues. Glad you are enjoying the game, gratz on shark girl :)

A thing to note is there are big creators who thrive on drama. Their YT/Twitch channel will suffer badly without any drama to feed on. Thus these creators will say whatever controversial stuff or opinion which will fuel community divide and get them views. And worse is a number of "players" do crave this kind this kind of tribalism, it makes them feel they belong to some camp or whatever. Sad truth.

I think the biggest creators do thrive on the drama, and even I have tried to lean into the gacha war in the past to get more views so I get it. For example there's Tectone, he's more of a drama cc now than a gacha cc which his caused him to skyrocket. This past week though I've seen respectful creators turn delusional just for the sake of "winning" an argument, and being very reactionary. For example there were lots of people trolling Iyo on Twitter by giving him these microwave takes on ZZZ's combat after they played it for 3 hours. I was on his side at first but then he went on this whole tirade just shitting on Wuthering Waves to prove his point and I was like huh??? Stripped away his credibility to me and just made him sound bitter. Maybe these people are just trying to cause drama but to me it feels like they're just sitting at their computers with their mouths open being reactionary to the first thought that pops in their head. Agreed on the tribalism, people crave it but it's weird to me in this context. I mean, I'm a Dallas Mavericks fan and loved shitting on Timberwolves fans during the playoffs, but when people get tribal about single player P2W anime games it baffles me.

Best comentary I have heard about this game.. Well put.. I'm just about level forty.. I don't think I hate the TVs as much as you, but I agree it's a hard sell to tell a friend they have to get past 30 levels of tutorial to get to the challenging stuff.

I enjoyed the TVs in the first couple chapters and didn't understand the criticism, but after a week of doing them everyday it is just monotonous to me now. It's a neat system, just wish it wasn't in every mode in the game.

Something I think that should be addressed is what’s the point of having a friends list if there’s nothing to do with friends in this game? I really like how in HSR I could use a friends support character to check out a unit if I didn’t happen to pull that unit even if it’s just in dailies. I really wish ZZZ did something along that route…. Or anything.

I believe you can play the arcade with your friends, and they will almost certainly add more games in the future.

I believe you can do notorious hunts in coop, and as someone else said the arcade games too. You're right though I do wish they had a little more, even if it's just support characters.

@@Maxcie I heard that coop was in the hunts in CBT but not in the final game? I havent seen the option for it but I havent hit very end game yet.

Arcade mode has co-op and the weekly bosses had it during the betas, they said it's coming, but seem to be reworking it to an extent likely want it to be used elsewhere too.

It will mainly because they did the multi platform launch just like GI and HSR, many action gacha games have come out but are relegated to just mobile and if youre lucky PC in the future. Not to mention there is a lot of open world fatigue so the game being hub based makes it even easier to get into. Not to mention GI walked so that other games like it could run, GI wouldnt have been as big as it is if it wasnt for covid AND the multiplatform launch with cross progression. I love the Gacha games and been playing them for a decade now and the ones that really stuck the most are the ones that weren't limited to my phone (rather it be emulators, PC, or console).

I have to disagree on the combat system. I'm currently at Interknot level 37 have completed just about everything I can except the last character quest think it's for Rina. Mechanically WuWa has more to its combat system and actually utilizing those mechanics is far more important. You have so many more tools at your disposal and to be good you have to know when, where, and in what order to use them. From basic attacks, heavy attacks, aerials attacks, resonance skills, ultimates(plural you have more than one), forte gauge which is utilized in various ways depending on the character, echo skills, proccing set effects/character passives at the right moment, and your HP actually means something and death is real possibility(I've almost died doing daily material farm before, the elites in there hit for almost half your HP). ZZZ's combat is very on rails(It's not a bad combat system it's just very simple and requires minimal brain use). Your meaningful decision making within the combat comes down to do I dodge or do I parry against the tough bosses and do I switch to the previous character or next character. It's that limited and basic. Please don't take this as me hating on ZZZ it's a decent game and there were things I really enjoyed about, though the opposite is true as well. EDIT: Forgot to mention intro and outro's for WuWa and quick swap cancels though ZZZ has these types of mechanics as well though to a slightly lesser degree. I mainly say lesser because skill use is gated behind an energy system which limits what you can do with it. While substituting cooldown based skills for energy based skills is an interesting game design choice it leads to combat feeling very button mashy as most of the time the optimal way to build it is to just basic attack like a madman. I prefer WuWa's more versatile approach to skills, while most use a simple and basic cooldown approach not all do such as Danjin using non cooldown a combo approach to her skills that juggles her HP(basic attack then skill vs basic attack, basic attack, skill, skill changes the skills animations and forte buildup).

This take is very odd, both are good systems if he likes one more than the other than that's okay. If you like WUWA then that's okay too! They are different and the same in many different ways. I am personally enjoying both. But if we had to argue then I will say the things you said about WUWA is very true, however, ZZZ does have different interactions with elements/factions which in the long terms could provide more interesting combat while the element system in in WUWA is very simple and it's like you got electro damage bonus here for this electro character. There is no interactions between elements and that part of the combat system seems stale in comparison. I think they both have their identity and I'm enjoying both :D

@@ExaltedXero I'm actually happy that WuWa doesn't have any type of elemental reactions. Though I wouldn't be surprised to see them make a character who has elemental reactions built into their kit which sounds funner and more interesting to me than reactions being generalized across all characters. At the moment I feel like many of the passives characters get by having certain certain types of character in the party is extremely rigid and both dumbs down team building too much and makes it feel very restrictive. If I wanna run Koleda as my stunner If I'm not running one of 6 specific characters(fire element or Belebog faction) I'm just shooting myself in the foot. WuWa has this issue as well with outros tailored to buff certain elements or damage types, but it doesn't feel as bad as most character only marginally do more damage of one type(basic, heavy, skill etc). Jinhsi is the exception though with 75% of her damage being skill type damage. I think once the pool of stunners open up some more in ZZZ this will feel less bad since the stun pool is way to small right now. I use Ellen and Soukaku on my main team, but I don't own Lycaon so I'm literally just f*cked on having a synergistic stunner.

Might be a hot take but I like the TV mode…to a degree I think it works well in hollow zone, and the puzzle ones are fun. I do hope they move towards removing it from the core story, but keep it in those two modes. Exploration should be 100% tv mode puzzles without combat, and hollow zone is the tv mode with power ups and combat.

I like the mode and I think a lot of people do like the mode but it’s so goddamn slow with the forced story slowing it down making it way too slow paced. Story should only be during the first run through then it should be strictly gameplay/TV mode

Like it or not, clearly this isn't what the majority wants and ZZZ, given it's a gacha game designed to maintain as big of a playerbase as possible, will not let this system stay if the players are quitting because of it. I'd say it should be 100% Hollow Zero thing and it should be featured nowhere else. Not story missions, not events. ONLY Hollow Zero.

There are more gacha games coming to global. Even if I wanted to play them all, I have limited storage space. 😅 ZZZ is not worth it *for me* compared to other games I'm waiting for. And I refuse to give up WuWa. So ZZZ will have to go eventually. I will still follow it and return for major updates. But it's not a game that I see myself babysitting with dailies for a year straight like I did with HSR. Especially not with the new games coming out. People have their different preferences though, so I think ZZZ will be fine.

Was having somewhat fun until I was forced to do all those TVs. But not particularly interested in the art style and setting of the game so would probably not last that long if it did not exist anyway. Think trying PGR a few months ago and getting absolutely hooked on the story, music and character design was what broke the camels back with my interest in Hoyo games... Actually playing Genshin the most now out of the lot because the combat is not actually that awful compared to HSR which at this point is an auto-battler with broken units like Archeron, Ruan Mei and Firefly just destroying the last vestiges of challenge in the game. Also for some reason I actually thought Imaginarium theater was pretty fun, more fun then Spiral Abyss. Did not get far into ZZZ to judge how good it's combat is.

Yeah the issue with so-called "gacha gamers" is that they invest too much time/money/emotion into a single game. For a normal gamers who enjoy all kinds of games I try to stay away from all the drama but sometimes you can't just escape the algorithm.

I enjoy zzz. Lvl 34 Due to me not investing resources into my characters game is medium/hard on diff levels. I am saving for miyabi to build a full team around her. Hope she comes out in patch 1.4 But that sparkes questions. After saving for such a long time, when I finally get her and build her. Will there be challenging content remaining that will actually get me thinking about team comps and so on. If my account becomes to strong for games content then I will quickly lose interest after time. Hope they make new big locations and great content engaging the player. Used to be as invested in genshin until i got hacked and lost account hope they leave me hooked in months to come.

Based. I agree with these sentiments. Highly enjoying ZZZ, Wuthering as well. Everyone needs to do a little soul searching and realize you don't have to tear something down if you don't particularly enjoy your time with it. Just go find something you do enjoy and leave sleeping dogs where they lie. It isn't that hard a concept. "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all", it's the first thing you're taught in kindergarten. Apply it..

At chpt3 now, with all available exploration side quests done. I'm on the verge of having TV phobia. Can you believe this today is just 10% of what was originally in the CBT? The 100% original monster would be something that'll make me straight up leave the game without second thought. If the content creators are telling me that it's only 10% removed in the final product, I'm more inclined to believe that.

The thing I don’t understand about people who complain about the TV segments is this…would you rather have Hoyo do the typical thing that they’ve done in their other gacha games like GGZ or HI3 (the two that mostly resemble ZZZ) and many other popular gacha games have done in the past which is having a chapter menu, you press play it gives you a cutscene, you get some materials for watching cutscene, then you get sent back to the menu, and you then get to do combat after the next play menu, and rinse and repeat? I honestly give them credit for coming up with a new way to integrate cutscenes, combat, and exploration in a dungeon crawler type way that doesn’t interrupt the flow of the story by continuously returning to a menu to play each segment until you get to the next chapter…it may not be the best, but it’s definitely a step up from the norm and I wanna see more innovative ways to integrate these things into the games instead of people complaining about how bad it is without giving any constructive feedback to make it better, and them saying “screw it” and going back to said comfort of menu scrolling gameplay/cutscenes.

My first thought when I saw the title was: this game made money in 10 days than WuWa has in its entire lifetime what the hell kind of title is "will this game last"!? But I had a sneaking suspicion and sure enough in the video he says "ofcourse its gonna last its hoyoverse" I wish people would just put honest titles I see a lot of positive ZZZ videos with negative titles lately.

You are conflating "negative" with "neutral". It simply asks a question, it doesn't put the game in a positive or negative light. Also, the question is valid and a good start to base a video around. Gacha games all die, over 100 of them went OOS last year. This video answers whether it will last and even expounds on what I think it needs to do better to thrive. I made a video asking the same for WuWa, and will make a similar one when the next big release comes out. I do agree with you that the ZZZ hate titles have gotten out of hand, even when the videos are somewhat positive. This video though does not fall in that category. Thank you for watching.

Try the shiyu defence floor 10. I had to study the patterns of the boss in order to defeat it but I did go underleved so... And the story is also underrated. The nekomata arc, the koleda ending, and even the 3rd chapter, till now is really good. This is very good story telling. They have taken a light hearted approach to tell an I'm assuming pretty pretty dark main story. And I think the tv system is what facilitated the devs to focus on all the other amazing aspects and the uncontested polish of the game And the TVs are kinda growing on me too and it's a pretty novel way of story telling though not the best. If you follow on the dialogue within the tv story quest you can understand what is going on just a little bit of focus is needed. The combat system has the potential to rival the combat system of wuwa. I love wuwa combat btw. This game I will say is a solid 7/10.

For me, I like the TVs coz its refreshing from the constant battling I still do like combat aspect of it but its gonna end up repeatative at some point. Its just me plus I blame to constant artifact grind for this 😂 Plus the TV is lore related so I hope the tv stays 😢

I think they do need some exploration in between battles to keep it fresh, but to me the TVs got so boring after the first chapters. I did enjoy it at first too, but it got very monotonous. I had to cut a part of the video where I mentioned I wish they would've copy pasted HSR's exploration, or something similar. That way we would get to see new environments from mission to mission, rather than just screens.

You say get locked into the story, but nothing knocks me out faster than inconsistent voiced sections. Even during main missions it goes back and forth between voiced scenes, to non voiced ones. It completely disengages me with the story, and feels low budget. This doesn't happen in Genshin, or HSR. And is even more pronounced when you consider, this game is on a smaller scale then both those titles... 🤷

Ive played for plenty of gatchas and of all of them solo leveling is the best one. The devs just bless you so much and the game is time friendly. Unlinke zzz ive put 100 hrs to get to lvl 40 yesterday and as u can tell im addicted to zzz 😆

I usually stay away from gachas based on anime IPs, but I've seen nothing but good things about that one. Maybe once I watch the show, I will give it a shot :)

@2:55 That's cap. 😅 ZZZ will *not* be better than WuWa by improving the boss fights - especially not in combat. I am not anti-ZZZ, I'm an active player. I paid close attention to the story and even read all the Inter-Knot notifications for extra lore. I don't mind the TVs. I think they're "okay", but certainly not great. 💡 Here's why I think ZZZ will not surpass WuWa (especially not in combat - from a casual's perspective). 🔸️ Their character designs, on average (unless you're a furry or lolicon), are weaker than WuWa and many other gachas in terms of universal appeal. Project MUGEN's character designs (their most direct competitor in terms of urban aesthetic) are on an entirely different level. ZZZ doesn't even come close. People are bored and are fascinated with the new toy. But that's temporary. What'll keep the game alive long-term are stunning character designs that compete against competitors and a good story to keep players returning for pach updates. For most gacha casual players, character design and story are extremely important and ZZZ is weak af in both compared to their competitors. 🔸️Their story has "potential", but it's certainly not "good." Far from it. Despite the flaws with WuWa's story, it was still very easy to follow and had plot elements to keep people at least somewhat interested. ZZZ has nothing. I forced myself to pay attention. It has nothing gripping to hold player attention and keep them invested. 🔸️ Their comic-style cutscenes are passable. But when most of the story is told through those, TVs, and characters staring at each other side by side... it's going to pale in comparison to WuWa's. WuWa's number of fully animated cutscenes are plenty. Not only that, but they're detailed enough that it feels like the audience is watching an anime. ZZZ's cutscenes are not "bad." I think they're better than Genshin's, definitely. But definitely not better than WuWa's unless you just prefer manga over anime. If so, then that actually makes sense. 🔸️ WuWa has far flashier combat skills and a far wider range of animations available for their premium characters. Hoyoverse, in general, tend to do the bare minimum in that aspect with all their games - including ZZZ. The characters are expensive (f2p or not). Kuro Games gives you far more for your time / money when you buy a character than Hoyoverse ever does with their games and (sadly) it's not even close. - As a casual F2P day 1 player in both ZZZ and WuWa, and as someone who likes both games to some degree, ZZZ will not come out on top against WuWa. Hoyoverse has their way with games. So, I don't expect enough changes and improvements in: their story, overall character designs, gender ratio (male vs female characters), use of TVs, and enemy designs. I don't expect enough changes in their weak points to close the quality gap between ZZZ and Wuthering Waves long-term. I think the ship has sailed. You either take ZZZ for what it is or you abandon ship for Azur Promilia, Project Mugen, or some other game - in the case that you feel WuWa is not for you. 💡 As a casual, there are things I like in ZZZ's combat. 😅 Actually, it's just 1 thihg. I like how it feels to counter / parry and do the chain attacks where you're switching between teams. Everything else in the combat feels sub-par compared to PGR, 😅 let alone WuWa. The characters overall are not appealing enough (to me). And the animations we see of the characters in combat are really basic. Even Aether Gazer has far flashier movesets. 🔸️ With all the budget Hoyoverse has, I don't know why even the limited 5 stars feel and look worse than 4 stars in Aether Gazer, PGR, and WuWa. 💡 If you like the game and it fits your preferences, that's fine. But I just don't believe ZZZ will consistently outperform WuWa. I don't believe Hoyoverse will ever try hard enough (despite their budget) to make it definitively better than WuWa. The story sucks, the TVs aren't bad - but they're pretty mid, most of the characters are lolis and if you're not into that it's a bother, too few males in the game, too furry-friendly for some, the fanbase is already turning people away cuz it's a dumpster fire, I just don't see a "grand success" from ZZZ. 🙏 I THINK it will succeed though. The lolicons and furries will never let the game die. But it's complete copium to think it'll stand toe to toe consistently with WuWa. ⚠️ And then when Azur Promilia and Project MUGEN come out ontop of that, ZZZ will be screwed in 3 directions. 😅 But, who knows, maybe Hoyoverse cares enough about ZZZ to really polish it and prove me wrong.

I kind of disagree. I think ZZZ will not have hardcore combat or complicated bossfights, because it's targeting casual audience. Hoyovers are not dumb, hardcore players are meager fraction of all players. Hardcore centric gacha game will never gain more money than casual gacha games. So I dont think that Hoyo will go route witch will yield less money. I think they'll go Genshin Route -> casual friendly easy combat in order to not scare away potential newcomers. If you are not convinced look at Star Rail's combat, it's extreamly simplified, units only have 1 active skill, which may not even be aviable if you're out of skill-ponts (units dont even have "skip turn" or "defend" options). 90% of the fights are predetirmend even before the start by your gear and team composition, which are luck based (gacha & artifact farming). Yet Star Rail's Story, Simulated universe, Characters and Events are so good. Hoyovers's games doent need thoughtful combat to be good.

Not wrong but it's a storytelling game. Not a competitive, zero-sum multiplayer. I wouldn't be surprised if the non spenders actually had longer retention.

It's the worse hoyo game. It's not bad, but it's hype because it's hoyo and with hype comes the hate. I can think atleast 100 reasons zzz is a trash game, but I can probaly do that with most gachas, at the end of the day the only factor is if you enjoy it despise the flaws. Btw, people defending zzz is coping too much. I think the only Hoyo game whorty playing right now is HSR and that's it. I can't wait to see what Arknights Endfield is cooking.

Nah, HSR is only manageable because you dont play it. Bricked my acc with c2 Archeron so entire game just auto battler that plays itself now for me.

I don't like story direction of HSR so the only thing left would be game play the problem is i believe South park stick of truth and fracture but whole make turn base battle better than HSR

@@lawfulgoodnun1646 Probaly not as popular as a Genshin or WW, but it will be popular since it's Arknights. Also it's not pure strategy. It's more like DioField Chronicles or FFXII style. I'm more turn-based rpgs so to me is amazing.

@@zealgaming8161 I'm playing it right now. I just don't have Archeron. In fact the game hates me since I only have 3 5* and I already finished all main story and half the sub-quests. I guess the game was way harder too me, but it was fun, took a long time to kill some bosses wo the "right" character. xD
