Can we please talk about how Willemijn is Dutch, signing brilliantly in German, and attracting a broadly anglophone audience (most of us are commenting in English)?? Like?? Could she be more perfect?? (The answer is no, by the way)
Yes but that doesn't detract from her talent, nor does it detract from the fact that it's attracting a broadly anglophone audience (which speaks to her ability to entertain without necessarily being understood).
She said in an interview that it was a challenge to go from singing in German for years to singing in Dutch - apparently there are different sections of the mouth that are prominently used in either language, and this creates challenges for singing. For speaking lines, though, it's probably not nearly as much of a challenge.
Well.... Actually it's quite a difference. Some words are a bit the same, but even a dutch person can't understand German well if he or she speaks no German... XD
Maxime Kosterman I was studying some Dutch and there are such similarities to English with many of the words, if not in how they are spelled, then in how they are spoken! Even more so than German!
Along with many, I love, love her Elphaba, Amneris, etc, but I'd love for her to revisit Donna. It's nice to see her in a more silly laid back role like this while still giving her opportunity for her vocal power to shine.
kleec13 I'm Dutch and I don;t know if I would like to see her in The Netherlands as Donna. To me she's just Elphaba or Willemijn, I feel it's very weird to watch her play a different character.
Skatjekim I can understand that, since she kicked butt as Elphaba for so long. However... I'd also love to see her move on with her career, and I think being Donna again anywhere would be a good start. :)
So... I've watched these videos of Willemijn as Donna a million times now, and they never stop being amazing. I love that even though the music in general is (arguably) easier than Wicked, you can still hear how strong of a singer she is. P.S. moewenimwind, I watch the videos of Rebecca (Pia Douwes, asdlkfjas;fj) all the time, too so thank you. ;)

Ich habe Willemijn zum ersten Mal in Stuttgart in Mama Mia gesehen( mit so 9Jahren) und wusste noch nicht, dass ich eines Tages so ein großer Fan von ihr werde. Ihr Stimme ist sooo unglaublich👌🏼 Sie ist einfach SUPER🤩👌🏼
Willemijn verkaik eine super Schauspielerin das Musical unbeschreiblich,war da schon 2 Mal schade das ich immer weit fahren Muss. Bin schon sehr lange ABBA Fan.
Willemijn ist die beste für mich ,,,hab sie schon als Elphaba gesehen ,in jeder Rolle einfach perfekt,ihre Stimme zum schmelzen, ach ,,,ich muss los ,,, meine Handtasche aufräumen,,,,oder sowas!!!

She is incredible! :D But my only problem with the choice of character is that she looks MUCH too young to have a daughter in her twenties getting married... :P
So weird to see her in a rol so different from Elphaba... To me she's either Elphaba or Willemijn, but another character... No, it just feels weird. Don't know why, but it does.
Yes, it was for me too. But now, I'm just fine with it. I would be very happy if she will playing something else now. She is a really great Elphaba, she doesn't have to prove it anymore, she is a really great Donna, we can see that here, now, she has to be know for something else. Something new.
I saw her yesterday @ Musicals in concert @Ziggodome Amsterdam, Netherlands. She was amazing, walked by a meter from me, but she was in a hurry Loved every second.
Liebe deutsche, wie klinket sie für euch? Als Niederländer kann ich klar einer niederländischer Akzent hören. Habt ihr das auch? Ist das störend? Oder nur ein bisschen niedlich?
