Assuming it’s the pour we had after the Lux Row pick, that Willett we tried at their bar was a 10 year pick. Those pours were incredible, great times with you guys!

The old WFE (purple top or otherwise) that was sourced from other places - some of those are the very best things I've ever tasted in my life. The 20+ years I've had are significantly better than KoK, M20, or WLW. Their own distillate is not worth the price when they try to treat it as hyper premium.

we do not, we just usually kill bottles when they get down to the last little bit. Either we drink it or bring it to bottle shares for people to kill

Both of those lines have such a variation in them. We have single barrels, small batches, and ryes from the carter's. The blue runs also have different offerings in the line up

“Grass notes” I typically associate with rye. Bizarre that it’s a wheater and has this funkyness. $250 should come with a 120+ proof…..just say’n.

This has same mash bill as one of the worst whiskey I've ever tasted. It was also from Willett and in a pretty bottle. It's their Pot Still. The Pot Still Willett is so bad I wouldn't even give it away. I tried to mix it and I still couldn't even kill the overwhelming flavor of rusty nails dipped in motor oil then pissed on. How's that for a tasting note? I think I'm right on mark with that note. It's $50+ a bottle too.

The only Willett I own is a green top Rye and even though it has a funky floral note it opens up into some awsome apple and pear notes with some baking spices. Awesome review. 🥃

I got mine for retail in NH ($229) and while it is definitely good, I wish it had a little more oomph. Feel pretty dumb spending that kind of money on an 8 year bourbon. The purple top ryes are a lot better for around that range, though their quality can really depend based on the batch.

The only Willets I have tried are Rowan’s Creek and Noah’s Mill. Shied away from their other offerings, due to hearing bad reviews.

We felt the same way at the $230-250 MSRP. With a worthy competitor (to many) in Weller Antique 107 at $50. Or even with ORVW with a lower MSRP and minimum age two years older (to your point about entering the premium wheater market). They are all difficult to obtain at retail, but even if WW8 were readily available at all times, we could not see it being something we would buy. Would recommend seeking out a pour before making your own decision. - Nate

I think willett ‘s strategy for blended is to take all their worst barrels and mix them up, sell for way too much. I’ll chase SiB purple tops but never a blended product from them

Overrated bottle of the year, will be tough to beat this one being an absurd $250 and highly limited. Don't give this extra points for the distillery producing other good picks.

It's funny that y'all would use the adjective 'interesting' and then pull a 'Buy, Bar, Pass'. Will informed Greeze that when people were calling him interesting, that it wasn't a compliment. For $250, there are other bottles to be purchased that are better in profile and price. Starting to lose my patience for these allocated cash grabs.

Like the ending with the opinions, don't need them all the time just went results feel unsure. All love to the patrons and they should get their due credit for supporting the channel, but content behind the patron roll is a great improvement.

This is the problem with scoring based on price. Score it on an absolute basis and let consumers decide what they are willing to pay. This is why I like Matt Porter’s system.

@@BourbonJunkies… compare every bourbon on the same scale. If I am willing to pay $100 for a Matt Porter 7.5, that is my own business. People are only finding these on secondary anyway, so grading things based on MSRP is kind of silly. And then you have to do two grades… one for MSRP, one for secondary. If you grade on an absolute scale, you get out of that quagmire. In wine, scores are always done on an absolute scale. In whiskey, there are all of these weird grading systems… except for the Whisky Advocate and ADHD, which both grade on an absolute scale. The downside to this is that it makes “Whiskey of the Year” kind of boring. The Wine Spectator would get out of this by publishing scores on an absolute basis, then have a “Wine of the Year” contest that would take into account factors like price, availability, and uniqueness. Just some thoughts. I agree with y’all. Super interesting pour that is probably not worth the $220 I paid for it. Some have compared this to OWA. I would rather have the Willett Wheated than OWA just for the uniqueness factor.

I am glad I'm not the only one that felt underwhelmed by this. I also saw someone eating the egg salad at Willett Bar but I was busy enjoying the chicken and the other super expensive appetizer plates as one of the liquid nitrogen canisters (they use the nitrogen to chill the glasses and create spooky looking cocktails) blew up behind the bar and caused quite a scene. So yeah.....purple tops are not for me.

I have been on a wheat kick to start fall, closed out summer on a corn whiskey kick. I have been holding onto a Pinhook purple top, realizing now that the MGP juice at 119.9 is a hitter in everything I have had before my on my nose, palate, & finish. I look forward to a purple top pop soon

Makes no sense when the slop they put in the pretty little bottle is not worth the time or cost, why would you pay $250 for other bourbon from them???? They make some good rye but they are not bourbon makers!!!

They have incredible barrels of bourbon at Willet. If you haven't had one yet that's understandable but it does exist. One of my top ten bourbons I've probably had has come from them (idk who distilled it but it had a Willet label on it).

I think this is the case with a vast majority of bourbon today. So many of these bottles are overhyped due to brand and/or price, making it extremely difficult to get honest opinions unless they are part of a blind tasting.

Willet is definitely in its own little category in my opinion. Easy to identify on the nose with the Green top rye. The purple tops are sometimes not so easy. I enjoy them when I can find one .
