Making a Mechanical Monster: Interview with special-effects-artist William Aldridge on his contribution in "The Car" (1977) directed by Elliot Silverstein.
Awesome film , awesome car. What a beast. When they start 3D building cars , this will be my fav build. The engine was a modded 460ci with open pipes from memory.
When the Car goes off of the top of the cliff, they used this in a Knight Rider episode in Kitt vs Karr when Karr goes off of the top of the cliff and then into the water.
Very fun movie! It often gets ragged on but its very well-made, quite scary at points, has good shots, and is always quite entertaining. Its effective, and to the point
CGI is never as good as old special effects. People will tell the difference in movies. CGI is cheaper and faster but it will always look fake. "The movie "The Car: from year 1977 epitomizes realism in movies. No, fancy colorful pics, no computer aids, no fancy car body--a mundane drab grey/black tone is good enough, nor shiny car paint, no exaggerated car movements such as (i.e. CGI would have the Car flying 1000 feet in the air--like in a fairytale). If they were to use CGI in the same film "The Car" today, it would have totally ruined the whole film.
I think that was a good thing that the prop guys kept cleaning the Car because it gave you the sense that it kept renewing itself. Like in the 3rd act when it showed up in Wade's garage all shiny and clean, you got the sense it was ready for their final show down.
The whole idea of a car going through a house....unheard of!! This is one reason why this movie ranks over and above the rest. I've never seen that before, it was fresh and new to the world. And I loved the design of the car, I always thought it was part of a hearse. This is still my number 1 car movie of All-time and I still watch it to this day.
This could have been a silly movie, but there's no doubt it was held together by a collection of well written and brilliantly preformed characters. If you haven't seen this film, you're missing out. "Imagine that, farting music! For a year!!"
Would like to see a company/customizer bulid replicas with the horn and a bad ass drive train. Betting they would sell at least a "few" for a premium price. 👍
Back in 5th in the early 2010s when I was into old movies especially ones filmed in the 70s I found out about it and got into it. There’s other movies I was into before that called Duel (1971). And they’re similar because they’re both about vehicles terrorizing people. I love both those movies. I’ve always enjoyed watching them.
Awesome horror movie! That's when they were really making good horror. Some of it was a little campy, when u watch them tdy. But not the car. I loved & still love that flick. I wish they would show it, during the Halloween season. I would love to see it again, after all these yrs.
I was like 9 and scared to death of this this move trailer. Was probably 13 before i actually seen this movie on hbo. My grandfather had a Black màrk 3 at this time i wouldn't ride in it😊
I think there is a hidden audience for a brand new science fiction movie that uses 100% practical effects, models, etc with all the knowledge they have obtained over the years (and push the envelope).
I got to see the original hero car in the 70s in a parking lot at universal studios. The tour guide tram driver never even said anything and I saw it so pulled up my polaroid camera quick and got a nice photo of it that I cherish. Nobody but myself noticed it.
I was there at Universal on/off 1977-2015, even went to a pre-screening of THE CAR on the lot... the studio was the last hold-out of the old HOLLYWOOD studio system. As Bill Aldridge said, the studio was made up of departments and all on the Universal payroll and under complete Universal control. The department heads like wardrobe, make-up, photographic effects, sound got the credit... but special effect, transportation and other craft departments, didn't get credit till the 1980's. Remember, when THE CAR came out in 1977, the Universal lot had over two-dozen Universal TV shows in production, plus a few features of it's own. Universal under Czar Lew Wasserman was the last studio to become a rental facility, just like all the others. It lost its identity, and the family feeling and pride like the old-timers had haven't spent most of their careers there, well that was just the way it went with all other industries!
Horrible story teller...............come on man you where there and we love this show.....its iconic and your like..........."I dunno,",, "think"..come on man.
Jack Faggard: A very unfortunate last name. Almost as bad as the guy who used to drag race (not joking): Richard Head. Yes, with the last name of Head, his parents thought it would be a good idea to name their son Dick. Anyway, this video just goes to show that even movies that fall short of the mark still require a huge amount of time, talent and effort to get made.
@@KevinWhite-zb5osI was watching a race with my dad once and I'm serious, there was one part of the race where Dick Trickle and two other guys were neck and neck and all of their last names rhymed with "trickle". I'm pretty sure one of the other two drivers' last names was "Pickle". Me and my dad AND the announcer were laughing at this. I wish I could remember all of their names.
it was a lotta fun! I've said that so many times about dumb stuff I did when I was younger!!😁🤣🤣🤣🤣 now I'm laid down on a giant sofa with my arthritic spine, and, yeah it was still fun!🤣🤣🤣
Il tono unico del clacson dell'auto è quello della campana rettangolare Hadley Ambassador, e il suono distintivo emesso dal clacson dell'auto scandisce la lettera X in codice Morse.
I clearly remember watching this with my friend Dave in 1st grade when SHOWTIME first came out when the cable guy was like the vacuum cleaner salesman who went door to door. This was in 1976 or so, if I remember correctly.
Uh...say what? Duel is a trucker playing cat and mouse terrorizing a lone salesman in what amounts to a slow chase. The trucker in Duel is obviously a person, though you never get a good look at his face. The Car is a demonic vehicle that goes into a community and runs people over, as the police try to stop it.
