Too bad it did not end that way. William use an unauthorized clip of Leonard in some media. Leonard had not approved it, so Leonard fell out with William. Too bad it ended that way. Had Leonard lived longer, I’d like to think they would have mended fences.
@@thomaspick4123 Yes it's unfortunate they didn't get a chance to mend the fence before Leonard passed on. I feel sorry for Bill in that respect, because they had been friends for decades and very close ones at that, and to have to live with the pain that a friend turned his back on you towards the end must have been a hard one to take. Bill should have known better to ask Leonard's permission but at the same time Leonard should have taken it better as after all, why end a decades long friendship over an unauthorised use of a film clip? I guess it's a reminder to always treat others close to you with respect as you never know which conversation will be the last.
Looking back, it's really sad that they had a falling out prior to Leonard Nimoy's death, especially given how close they were and how long they were friends. RIP Leonard Nimoy
I honestly don't think Leonard meant it. Most people of his generation feel that to die with dignity they must die alone so that their closest can never see them at their last moments. Sometimes when the end is near they do anything to make sure their loved ones left them alone. I heard why they fell out and I just don't see Leonard driving Bill out of his last moments for just that reason. That said, he probably got over it in death. Either way he's waiting to mend the fences with Bill.
@@Shanethefilmmaker Very valid point, and I pray that's exactly what happens when the time is right. Either way... may Mr. Nimoy RIP & LLAP in Eternity's Glorious Light
@@GavinJ37 - I'm not convinced their relationship really ended. Shatner had mentioned that Nimoy cut off contact with him and he didn't understand why. However, my father had COPD, like Nimoy, and used to call me all the time. The calls from him became less and less as his condition progressed until finally all calls simply stopped. Of course, I always called him. But, he reached a point when he didn't feel like talking to anybody because all of his focus was concentrated on simply breathing which was a huge struggle. So, this could explain why Nimoy ceased contact with his longtime friend. At least, I hope that's the only reason because they were very close for decades.
@@ScottALanter The reason why the relationship ended was due to Shatner using unauthorized footage of Nimoy in his 2011 "The Captain's" documentary. Shatner had asked Nimoy to make an appearance in the documentary. Nimoy declined. Despite that, Shatner's cameraman secretly filmed Nimoy during a Star Trek convention appearance, and that footage was used in the documentary without Nimoy's permission Shatner attempted to claim ignorance, putting the blame on the production company, but Nimoy wasn't having any of that, and severed the friendship.
This sort of reminded me of the close friendship between Bill Murray and Harold Ramis and then they really started fighting during the filming of "Groundhog Day" (which Ramis directed Murray in) and they both stopped talking to each other after that sadly. At least Bill Murray made up with him (I heard it was on Ramis' deathbed.) Shatner did not get along with the supporting cast of Star Trek, especially George Takei, but he did make up with James Doohan (he played Scotty and was my 2nd favorite in Star Trek after Nimoy). I was glad that Shatner was able to make up with Doohan. I know they had quite the riff going and Doohan seemed like such a good and decent guy. (I can't stand George Takei to this day.) It's too bad Shatner and Nimoy couldn't have made up. I know Shatner tried and I know he deeply loves Nimoy like a brother. I firmly believe Nimoy did this so Shatner didn't see him suffer and he wanted to protect his good friend from the heartache. D@mm, it's been 7 years since Nimoy's passing. I am tearing up typing this. I took his death very hard. Nimoy seemed like a wonderful and nice man, which we need so much right now. Leonard Nimoy was a positive role model for not just young people but everyone who wanted to live life to the fullest and be kind to others. I miss him so much.
@@ryanfeit1420 It is quite fitting, that his last television appearance was in, "The Big Bang Theory" He played the voice of Sheldon's figurine of Spock
That's same exact thing that I was thinking! If they did a sequel to "Grumpy Old Men", and it starred Shatner and Nimoy, I guarantee that it would be #1 at the box office! It would be one of the funniest movies of all time!! I wish they would make that movie. I really do. I love these guys. I've always been a huge Star Trek fan and a huge fan of these 2 legendary actors. They have great chemistry together!
I am of the generation that grew up watching the original series back in the 1960s and then forever and ever in syndication. I love those two as I do the entire cast and crew.
I never saw this before. It's amazing just how much content is sitting out there. I'm 43 and I figured that I had caught everything over the years. This was a nice surprise
Back in the 60s, whether it was us (as kids watching TOS) or these icons acting the part ... NONE of us ever dreamed how BIG Star Trek would become! And there is only ONE Star Trek!
Whilst it will never ever happen, these two should star side-by-side in a sit-com as two angry competing neighbors who hate each other. It would be the funniest thing since the invention of comedy!
It's funny that one of the few videos that doesn't have any dislikes involves two elderly Jewish men talking on the phone. And who else here is surprised that William Shatner is 80? Seriously, he's looking GOOD.
You know Shatner and Nimoy were only four days apart in age. Nimoy got pretty old and had to check out. But Shatner is now 90 and still going strong! He looks and sounds amazing. Ironically Vulcans are the ones who are supposed to live well over 200 years. But Shatner is the one with the Vulcan genes when it comes to longevity.
I was going to say exactly that!! never had much of an opinion on Shatner, but he is funny. Only two guys who had gone through all that Star Trek crap together could do something funny as this, lol...
