Apparently William suffered from a strange disorder called antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), people with this disorder tend to lie, break laws, and not be aware of the safety of themselves and others...I imagine that his condition wasn't too severe, until Chris died from Fredbear, that combined with the disorder, pushed him to snap.
Cassidy told William to stay away from them but then Charlie had him hang out with her AND Cassidy went over to William and touched the illusion disk that was on his face, they’re breaking their own rule, LMAO😭
THE MOST COMMON, if not the biggest reason for many antagonists is attention, or attention, so you can use the metaphor that they are lost people who need someone to help them set the path.
Just the lack of fear of charlotte does not surprise me, as a child I had such desires myself that if he had not personally introduced himself to me as my tormentor, my behavior would not have been better than charlotte's. Plus sooner if he showed up with a knife, he might be scary, but he looks like an old man who talks nonsense, so he's not scary.
