It's not English fans overrating the players it's the media look at Rice he played for us (Ireland) and watched him in person he's not as good as he looks on TV tbh. These players play well very well in the pl and respective leagues. International football is different. Playing best players don't work its balance and no set playing. People forget there was a stipulation when the consortium bought Chelsea, Roman put in place a clause that new owners would have to invest £1.75 billion back into the club. So Im not surprised they are doing this now rather than doing it over the long term due to a changing and unpredictable financial market.
