Hi 👋🏻 on this version I cut the doorway out, making cuts just before the uprights so the weavers will stay in place buy if you use a more flexible material you can turn the weaving back on itself to create the opening as you weave, so weaving in a ‘U’ shape around the back of the birdhouse to the opening on each side 😁 I have some new videos coming soon with one showing this technique so look out for that 😁
Hi Carrie, you can use any material that will wrap around your arm without breaking, if you want to use green material from the hedge or garden you may need to cut it and wait a few days for it to dry a little so it’s not too brittle. You can also use a mixture of twigs for the ribs and soft stems such as Iris, Phormium or wide leaved grasses for the weaving.
Thanks Michele, willow a lovely material to work with and what better thing to make than a home for the birds 😁 I do run classes which you can see on my website but it depends where you are of course. I have more tutorials coming so keep an eye out 😉
Hi Dee, this one was made with willow from a grower in Somerset for the uprights and material foraged from my garden for the weavers. Most of my supplies come from Musgrove Willow, they supply far and wide but if you do a search in your local area you may find someone growing it that you can buy some from.
