The willow has grown lots this year with many more shoots per plant than last year. In this video I give an update on how their growth has been over the summer and I also look at the willow canes we used as plant supports which have rooted and grown to a surprising size in just one season. I have yet to measure how tall they have grown this year, but I'm hoping to beat the 440cm that they grew last year.

They remind me of bamboo when they sway in the wind.

@@Gardeningat58N They are so pretty and I can't get over how quickly that arch filled in and is taking shape. It's very beautiful.

What species of willow are these? We’re in Australia and looking for fast growing willow to prevent erosion on some of the western walls of our dam and reduce evaporation.

They are a hybrid willow, but I'm not sure what exact variety, but certainly one of the hybrid parents would have been Salix viminalis, they are extremely fast growing but their max height will only be about 6-8 meters. You might also need a willow that likes hot weather, my variety grows well in cool Scottish weather.

Amazing! Love your videos very informative and interesting. The wigwam are wonderful, but aren't the willow wigwam "stealing" water from the plants they support? Aren't willow roots agresive?

Thanks, Yes the willow roots are a bit of an issue, I usually keep the growth on the willow wigwams cut back so that it reduces the growth of the roots.

@@Gardeningat58N thank you so much for your reply. Maybe I'll grow the courage to plant one that I have in a pot...
