As far as I'm concerned, this is one of the most incredible examples of imagery in musical history... right there next to songs like Powderfinger by Neil Young... and I love this version the most for 2 reasons: 1.) Chandler's mandolin is one of a kind, 2.) Sonny yells I love you Willy at the beginning of the song and Willy gives him a courtesy response like a legendary ball player tipping his cap because they both know it goes without saying
Damn if Willy Tea aint the modern day Bob Dylan , what a great songwriter every song is filled with so much emotion, you cant help but to feel exactly what he is trying to put out.I guess that is why he got this grown man weepin like a baby.
I will be going to chickamauga battlefield in a couple months. I will definitely play this song all over the battlefield especially the river around Alexander bridge.thank you Willy. My 4th grandfather from illnois was captured at chickamauga trying to save us brother in-law after he qas shot in the leg. Brother in law managed to make it home but my grandfather was sent to p.o.w camps where he passed away at 33 years old at Andersonville. Leaving a wife 3 kids at home. All he gets for his sacrifice is a headstone that reads "unknown soldier".
this song should BE deadacated to all brave men n women that served n still serving our country ......THANK YOU VET//////////////////////////////////////////..
What makes this song even cooler to me is that I live like 45 minutes from Chickamauga. This is also a song about a Union solider, and the South won that battle ;)
