Wilmington North Carolina | Pros and Cons of Life in Wilmington
I love living in Wilmington, North Carolina. I do want to go through the pros and cons of life in Wilmington FOR YOU.
The real estate market in Wilmington NC is still strong, as this is a desirable place to live! Right along the coast in Southeastern North Carolina, full of rich history, beautiful architecture, shopping & dining and stunning beaches.
My name is Jan Roggeman. If you're interested in more information about the Wilmington NC area, whether you currently live here like I do, or you're hoping to, please feel free to reach out to me. I am a local Real Estate Agent who loves what I do, and the community in which I live and work. If you love North Carolina like I do, hopefully you find this video, and some of my others, to be helpful for you!
Take care and thanks for watching,

I grew up in Wilmington and still have property in the area but have lived in Michigan for about 40 years. I get back there about a dozen times a year. As you noted it has slowly lost it's small town feeling. I've always attributed that to the influx of people from around the country moving there because of the wonderful place it was but then wanting to change it to more like what it was where they came from. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great place to live.

It's beautiful here with tolerable year round weather. As I've traveled all over the country, the growth and change aren't just isolated to Wilmington, but so many other amazing and beautiful remote places as well. It's so much easier for people to move to a better location with the ability to work remotely. I feel that's the biggest contributing factor to these migrations we've seen in the past 5 years.

If Wilmington is smart they will declare the current Wilmington as historic Wilimington and let them build new...build their midrises and high rises and condos...outside of Wilmington on the undeveloped parts so as change as little as possible of what people love about this original coastal town. As far as losing the character because of growth, I have no solution but alot of the growth is from open borders mass immigration which has been going on since 1965 and now its going parabolic. Call me all the names you want but I was in cities like Austin, Pheonix, Dallas, Houston, Austin, Atlanta, Tampa, Miami when they were less than half the size they are today...and they were wonderful places to live...each big yet had a smalltown feel and personality. Go back even further to after WW2 when places like LA, San Francisco, Denver were growing rapidly. They were wonderful places to live too until they got too big. Call me whatever you like but the US was a better country when we had 200 million people than we are today at 350 million people...and I would wager (if you asked people around the world) that they would say their countries were better when they had less people. Its not that I am against people or growth. Slow growth preserves the people, character, culture, way-of-life. Rapid growth that turns cities into huge metropolis's...its good for the few who get rich...but its horrible for everyone else.

I just visited Wilmington again this week and enjoyed the beach at Ft. Fisher. Wrightsville beach is $30 a day or $6 an hour to park. Why would I want to live close to the beach, if I have to pay everyday to use it? Ft. Fisher is free parking, but it's mixed with Cape Fear River water and isn't the clear pristine look of Wrightsville Beach.

I moved here about four years ago, it’s funny as I have the same impression of the clueless North Carolina drivers. I surely didn’t bring a Northern attitude here, I left New Jersey to get away from Northerners and their insane Liberal politics. Unfortunately, there are too many of them moving here. They will eventually ruin this state, like they always do.

Wilmington local here, stay away from downtown, the houses are cute but it's a major hub for crime and overall ghettoness. Any numbered streets are going to be hit or miss. I recommend the right side of town, towards the beach rather than the left side of town (downtown)

We are considering a 5 year plan to move from CT. We have a window of opportunity at that point where my family would all be willing and able to relocate. My husband is self employed as a consultant in the medical device industry. My oldest is in the same field and my youngest will be a chiropractor. Parents are retired. CT is out of control expensive and dreary 5-6 months out of the year. We are all just tired of it. Quality of life matters. So we are trying to locate a place where we can settle multiple generations of our family where we can have better quality of living, more affordable housing, lower crime & good schools.

We need to. My son just visited and loved it. We have to plan some trips to the places we have interest in and do some research. A close suburb with new construction in a nice community with some property is what we will be seeking. Are they building these homes to be more hurricane resistant, is there flooding, are there areas where crime rate is low?
@janroggeman1stClass
@janroggeman1stClass 4 месяца назад
@@MermaidBBW A new community is a great way to to make a move. Everybody is in the same situation, new to that development, and you'll find it easy to meet people. Building codes are enforced for our climate and weather. As for flooding, that is a question to ask per house or location. Some areas have higher risk. On property can be in a flood zone and the neighboring property not. In terms of crime, there are plenty of maps that provide statistics. You can easily search that information. I hope this helps!

Interesting comment because my wife and I also had a five year plan to move to a warmer climate. Winters in Weston Ct were ridiculous. As beautiful as the town is, just couldn't handle the weather, the costs of living and a bunch or really snotty entitled people. We've now been in the Porters Neck area for 22 years. Suffered through hurricane Florence and hot and humid summers, but I wouldn't trade our life now for the one in CT for anything.

USED to be a great place-now it is overrun with addicts. Homeless and illegals. It is the center of human trafficking between NY and florida( media doesnt report it due to tourism) Beaches? Forget it-its all locked down by hedge fund McMansion for rental investors. 100k+ tourists and college kids trying to get on a beach with 10k (at most) $10 / hour parking spots. Traffic is insane- since all the high density building with zero infrastructure investment. Every available piece of land is being and has been stripped of greenery and built with high density rat boxes. In the 90s-it was magazine articles (similar to this video) that proclaimed this place paradise-so everyone ran from what they voted for up north and on the west coast-and moved here only to vote for the same things. Pollution-no fishing left...all there is is brewery's and apartments.
