Wiltshire Man Goes on a 50 mile bike ride through the English countryside

A lovely 50 mile loop taking in some of the Cotswolds (Gloucestershire) and then passing through parts of Oxfordshire to visit the Great Tythe barn at Great Coxwell, then lastly along the Icknield way and back into Wiltshire.
I cycled just over 50 miles and had plenty of fuel in the tank.
The Insta 360 performed well but I held it wrong and managed to get a lot of the stitch line in some of the clips, (User error) I'm still on a learning curve with it but what a powerful tool it is, very clever tech!

Newer Samsung phones allow no subscribing, no ads. Just by manipulating viewing. That will surely bring sub #'s down. It's what I do.

Lovely video - so much so I’m immediately going to watch it again! The 360 camera is a splendid addition to your filming arsenal and brings a whole new level of interest to your excellent films. I love that you carry a packet of sandwiches and a drink on your bike rides. I do the same. It was standard practice back in the day and I wish more people would use a bike to get out and about with a lunch stop in this way. The bike truly becomes a travelling companion. Looking forward to your next video - I don’t care if it’s camping, gardening, dog walks, motorbikes or pushbikes - love the mix! Sometimes I do not get a sigb when you load up videos. Even the bell is black. However, I have a look every day to see if you hav a new video. But your btother I have lost! And I can' remember what the channels name was. So is it with your frend Joe, cant find him as I do not remember the channels name. Do not worry Sandy, I will never leave you.

From personal experience, nothing is too absurd to be worn by a commuter/touring cyclist. Comfort, function and safety is the game. Road cyclist are another animal. They prefer sleek and sexy 😂

Lovely video Sandy. Back in the late '80's, a time of great sadness when I used to go caravanning with my mother and father and my mother was in the final stages of cancer. I used to take my bicycle and tour around the Bourton-on-the-Water area. Naunton, The Barringons, Guiting Power, Salperton, Winchcombe, The Slaughters, etc. A real mix of sad and happy times/memories. The water pump on top of the stepped pillar? The village's 'High Water Mark' perhaps? You don't hear of people pumping water down, do you? Maybe it was internationalism and some of the locals wanted to adopt the methodology of carrying water on their heads...not a good idea to bend down to pick up your pitcher.

Hello, you don't find many of those old hand water pumps that actually work anymore, though i still know a couple, they're mostly just ornamental nowadays, used them in the 60s and early 70s.

at 3:48 you go past the house my mum was born and raised at, it's called "Angells", in Meysey Hampton, she had an idyllic childhood and loved her life there. Left school at 14 and went to live as a chambermaid in Potters bar just as WWII was breaking out in 1945.

River Coln is a great river for signal crayfish. Your not meant to but they make a lovely snack (there an invasive species anyway). Great video as always WM, thank you 👍👌

Sandy, I don't see anything wrong with the appearance of the "Cat's Ears" wind baffles. They make sense to me, though I have no direct experience with them. I did notice that the example worn by Floyd Raser in the included brief clip seem to be made from the "hook" portion of Velcro fabric. I will speculate here that the tiny forest of hooks standing up in the air flow will disrupt it more effectively, and thus attenuate the associated noise to a greater degree, than the smoother fabric which you have chosen to craft your own pair. Hope to see some more camping content soon. Take care!

Nice ride Sandy! How do you find drop bars vs flat bars? I find that when I have to crank hard up a hill, the more upright I can sit, the easier it is. Might be just me.

Hi Sandy,your videos get better,so informative & full of local history,I don’t think those side pieces look daft,if they work that’s great,I noticed you use a Garmin on your bike,I’m thinking of the Explorer 2 Garmin,once I’ve checked out if they are easy to use,going back to the side pieces,they fit race horses with cheek pieces & just think how fast they go🤡👍,atb Colin P.

That view of the Coln where you stopped is a regular of mine. There's a very handy tap just inside the gate of the chapel where you stopped. Keep on rollin....:)

Yes, you can cycle up to the hillfort and there's also a path that leads onto the top of the hill by the horses head, it takes a strong pair of legs and lungs to do it in one hit though

Hi Sandy, have you ever tried clip on TT bars on your bike ? Not for speed but for extra hand positions and giving your wrists a rest on long rides. I am 65, although I am a time triallist still, on longer solo rides, the last one being 117 miles with 7000 feet of climbing, the time trial bars were invaluable, even on my road bikes, for relieving upper body stress and making the ride more enjoyable because of it.

The pump on a step might be for filling containers on a cart with water rather than lifting full units on from the floor. An early water bauser? Or steam tractor tanks?

Just bought new mtb at 53 decided new hobby time looking at luggage at min for overnighter as I can't walk very far or carry heavy packs now don't think I got best bike orange crush comp but can remember were dogs doodles when mtb took off must be 35 yrs ago my 1st Scott boulder😂 great relaxing ride sandy

Nice video. If you were to ride to Shilton (nr Carterton) you’ll see another of those pumps on steps, also a strange circular stone thing next to it. Again, next to it is a bench to rest on, right next to a lovely old ford which gets very deep in the winter!

Love these cycling videos mate...it's something i can relate to. That scenery once again is stunning. I like the motorbike videos too, but theres something about the cycling that makes trips like these special, the quietness and the opportunity to take in with your eyes the surroundings. Too fast and it tends to be a bit of a blur. So much history around us and everyone going about their daily tasks and they dont think about the history. That old pump....there's one at the top of Bromley High Street and it's said that back in the day, people used to drink from it, until numerous people got poisoned by contaminated water 😂 But none the less, a busy place and the home of the likes of HG Wells and the pump has a history too.
