Dennis, you know I’m a subscriber! I want to be in the drawing even though I would not use the fast-cast feature. Yesterday I did some more work on my Daiwa Apollo 7050 saltwater rear drag reel. It is one of those that had that dissolving anti-reverse claw. Rick Stivers showed me a better way to fix it by making a spring for that claw. He sent me the metal spring wire to use for the spring. Well, I went back and looked art my original bush fix for my reel and decided to hold off as it was working perfectly. It only has bushings not bearings like the reel you are servicing. Without the fast-cast feature my Apollo 7050 is little different from this reel. It does have two c-clips instead of that on piece double clip on your smaller reel. By the way my dad called that metal “monkey metal.” That one stop cam for the AR is my true problem with fast-cast reels. It takes half a turn of the rotor for the AR to catch. For me that is just too far. Dennis I just got a Daiwa Emblem Pro reel that has a sort of self centering rotor feature like this fast cast reel. I’ll write you about it with some photos showing how it worked. The reel also has a regular override and an AR clutch bearing so this was quite a surprise. None of my other Emblem reels have this feature. Of all the rear drag reels I own, not a one will let me attach the crosswind block to the axle shaft before inserting the main gear. With separate c-clips this can be a reel pain in the butt! This is a nice little freshwater rear drag! - Chris
Subscriber since COVID and back when I started refurbishing all the reels I’ve owned since the mid 80’s. Btw I’ve found a lot of hard to find paper washers at Lowe’s and Ace Hardware in case folks want to take their parts to match them up.
Hey Dennis! I am a subscriber and would like to be entered in the drawing. Really enjoy your service and history vids. Learned a lot about my Silstar reel I picked up second hand!
I'm a subscriber & would like to win this reel. I'd also like to note I've watched dozens of your how to service reel videos as I have went from a hobby to a service here in Bakersfield as Salty's Reel Restoration. I need to create a channel or at least a website to display all the reels I have worked on so far. Yesterday, one of your videos helped me with a Ryobi sx1 & I got to say that the full metal body is very nice. Dozens of Penn, Daiwa, Shimano, Ocean City, Shakespeare & J.C. Higgins COMPLETELY restored thanks to your videos. Keep up the good work & thanks for inspiring me.
