Oh my goodness, I remember Mark Radcliffe playing one of these tracks on one of his mid-90s late evening shows on R1 & only caught the word “Win” have searched for it periodically over the years thinking Win was the name of the song but now my quest is over 🙌🏻
Where can I buy this ?? , the cassette was in my husband car when it was stolen a few moons ago , have tried unsuccessfully several times to get it for him 🤨
Still amazes me how much people love this album, yet we've still never gotten a re-release. This is the sort of album that should be getting the Definitive Multi-CD Release treatment. We're talking an album where it seems people's vinyl is literally wearing out, and it's down to the lucky few bastards who managed to get the CD. I do feel guilty at times that my own CD, while I only ever did rips for about four or five people, but suspect those people did rips for about four or five people each, so this album's still never being re-released because they figure everyone's ripped it. Nah, I'd gladly pay major $$$ to get this one in pristine remastered form, with all of the 12" and B-side only tracks. Anyone have any idea how many copies were produced on CD back in 1987? I'm guessing it can't have been more than a few hundred, tops. When I got a CD player, I hunted every record store in Edinburgh, every single Saturday for about three years, until I finally turned up a copy in Vinyl Villains. So I'm guessing it's kinda rare. Sometimes think the thing that's missing as far as triggering a new CD release is "peer recognition". Load of bands go on about how wonderful the Fire Engines were, or Josef K, or Orange Juice, but never Win. Plus, since I've never heard anybody say "Hey, check out , it's just like Win", I'm guessing either nobody *was* influenced, or nobody's felt able to equal it. All it needs is a cover by some Global Level High Credibility Musician to become a hit, make people seek out the original, get people hooked. Thinking along the lines of how TFF's "Mad World" became known to a whole new generation through a cover, or Beck covering the Korgi's "Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime".
@@timmdavison4792 I need to check my Google mail more often - didn’t find out about this until the start of December. Fortunately, while the regular retail copies sold out in days, buying an LNFG membership (which is a good deal in itself) secured me a copy.
Thanks so much for uploading this! My vinyl copy is unplayable. 1987: Sign Of The Times, Strangeways Here We Come, Document, Music For The Masses... and this..:))
36 years ago,I got married and this was released a few weeks later.Sadly after 31 years my marriage ended...this masterpiece however transcends time.Just a wonderful album!! Thanks for posting this Davey Henderson was some kinda genius! X
One of the ten greatest albums ever produced. (Freaky Trigger not too bad either). I've always dreamt of a reunion gig, as Nectarine No. 9 and Fire Engines have done since while we're all still alive. Please?
Suddenly came to mind the other day and... hey presto here it is!... my vinyl ( all of it) has disappear into the ether many years ago and gems like this go astray... brilliant
