Pete Moore reviews one of the all time, great Winchester lever-actions used by none the less than US President Teddy Roosevelt! Comment, or read more at gunmart.net Contact; en.browning.eu
I'd love one of these. Some years ago I was practicing at Bisley with an L96 for an Army competition and a chap on the next lane was blazing away and hitting at 800 with his open sighted 1895 in 7.62x54R. He said it was made for the Tsar's army!
Yes they were termed as a musket with, I think a 29" barrel and full wood forend and took the Mosin 1891 socket bayonet. The action was adapted to use the 7.62x54R stripper clip. The mounties used them too in I think 303, but in a sporting format
I picked one up last year. 30/06 in the military saddle ring carbine configuration. I will use a slip on recoil pad if I need it. I don’t want to spoil the steel butt plate looks.
just ordered a 1895 high grade, hoping to have it in the next month. I’ve wanted an old browning repro for a long time but could never find them, so i threw in the towel and ordered one. Thanks for the video
Great video review. I’m going to get one of those in 30-06 in the next year or so. Love the 405 but the ammo availability and the price is ridiculous! I’m going to hunt with it so I’ll be just fine with a 30-06, plenty of ammo I can afford! Thanks again for the posting! Cheers!
I have a 1895 in 405 WCF made in 1903 by the ser # the weird thing is the 405 came out in 1904 so this must be one of the very first to hit the market .I have no idea of the value it is at least 80% with a Lyman rear sight and a 2 blade front flip over Wood is good no cracks or gouges with a red winchester original pad 26" barrel excellent bore anyone with a value id like to know?
MARS & now LR 223/30 have been banned, but LAs are standard, section 1 firearms and totally manually operated, they never even touched them after the SLR ban in 1988, when they banned pump-action full bores along with self-loaders; go figure
@@819ANT My advice, for what it's worth, get a 38 Special/357 Magnum, it's a pistol calibre so can be used anywhere and the ammo is cheap and they are easy to shoot
It's better than the 45-70 because the 1895 doesn't jam and the 405 has more velocity. 30-60? No, that's a long range round. Also, there is no reason to put the shell vertical when loading...you don't do that with a bolt gun so why on earth some people do that with this gun I will never know. Just place it horizontal and push it down with your thumb. Geez!
Well, there is a reason for loading vertically for a rimmed cartridge like the .405, but you’re right, I see no reason for it with a rimless like the 30-06.
