Winchester Mountain's summit comes at a cost: the Twin Lakes road. The unmaintained road is traveled carefully with a high clearance 4x4 or AWD vehicle. The hike is short and rated "difficult", but the views are endless. From the summit, you'll see Mt. Baker, Mt. Larrabee, American Border Peak & Canadian Border Peak. The U.S./Canadian Border is only about 2 miles from the summit and you can see well into Canada. There are a couple short scrambling sections on your way up, but nothing too difficult. Unless you're comfortable traversing snowy slopes, it's best to wait until the snow melts out. It was refreshing to take a dip in one of the Twin Lakes after the hike. This one is a bucket list adventure, for sure.
