WinCo's security is really tight I've noticed. It's cuz the employees own part of the franchise they are super motivated to stop thievery. Plus their prices are cheap AF too. I bet they do that so very low income people can eat. Stealing from them is like stealing from church honestly. It's really immoral.

@@mackswellggper capita is more important data. Florida doesn't make the top 10 while Oregon is number 3 for number of homeless per capita. Btw we're talking about cites so why bring up a state? large parts of Portland is filled with homeless, drugged addicts, criminals, trash and woke activist lunatics that its not the same after the BLM riots. While staying in Portland for a few months due to my husband being on ECMO life support, I went into this Winco one night to grab a few things. 5 minutes in and I start seeing a bunch of teenagers running in all different directions, literally jumping OVER the top of the aisles while the employees try to corral and block them into one area using those orange metal wall things they use to block off an aisle while they restock/clean it. They were yelling at them to leave the store because they had been trespassed for theft many times in the past, but these teens didn’t care. They made it out with a couple cases of alcohol. The employees seemed so defeated and upset. They didn’t even call the police because, quote, “it’s pointless and a waste of time”. At a Ross Dress for less, a woman walked in and grabbed as many clothes as she could carry and walked right out the front door where her getaway car was waiting. She even caught a hanger on the door handle and took the time to remove it and be on her way. Loss prevention just stood there in the front and called for someone to call the police in her little ear piece. What else could she do? There is no confronting these people due to their own safety. It was sad to see and was a blessing to get back home to our small town in Central Oregon.

Make Portland a drug haven, this is what you get.
@l3rlc
@l3rlc 11 месяцев назад
Really...? You do realize that this exact thing is playing out in cities all over the country, right? But I guess it's easier to just say "drugs are bad mkay" then acknowledge and address the selfishness, greed and systemic issues that got us to this point. But you know you're right, the problem is that we aren't imprisoning enough people in this country for nonviolent and victimless crimes. What a brilliant take, thank you. Just for the record, drugs should be legalized and regulated, which has not happened in Portland, despite what people like you may say or believe. Portland has only decriminalized possession of small personal amounts which is a step in the right direction but fails to address many of the issues such as qc/safety, education and rehabilitation and elimination of the black market. The world yearly drug trade is estimated to be ~$600 Billion and is increasing every year and instead of acknowledging history and the fact that the war on drugs failed on all counts, drugs are more potent and prevalent than ever and that throughout history people have been getting high on psychoactive substances and since there will always be a demand a market will always arise to meet that demand. Instead of acknowledging that and saying "ok we will never be able to completely eliminate recreational drug use", which is a fact given that many drugs that people take recreationally are prescription medications, "If we can't stop it all together how can we reduce the risk and harm that they potentially cause and educate the public responsibly of the very real risks that their use can entail without reverting to the tried and failed reefer madness style propaganda" Instead of doing/saying that we just continue to fund and fight our failed war on drugs which was doomed from the start. It's the literal definition of insanity, trying to do the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result. Instead of taxing that over half a trillion $ and using the funds towards things like education and rehabilitation, we just give it to literally the worst people on the planet that often use that $ to buy weapons and fund wars. We saw what happened when we tried this with alcohol and how disastrous that was which is a drug that is just as or even more addictive and damaging than most illegal recreational drugs, it's just socially acceptable... But maybe you're right, we just need to lock up more people like the person that doesn't drink or smoke but like to trip or get high on the weekend, it being one of the few things in life that they enjoy and look forward to and that distracts and provides relief from their dead end pos minimum wage job, and the knowledge that they will never be able to afford a home or support a family in this dystopia that we live in

To be fair, Portland's always been a drug haven(at least as far as as i remember growing up here). It's also always had a pretty bad homeless problem(at least since the Reagan administration). But both issues really seemed to go nuclear around 2016-17. Yes, the economy here got real sh*tty after the '07-'08 recession, but now it looks like a freakin refugee zone in many areas. i actually don't blame the political policies as much as i blame other communities that won't adopt the same responsibilities for their own citizens. It's not just rural Oregon that casts away it's impoverished to the city. Even affluent suburbs like Lake Oswego & Beaverton give the homeless trimet tickets & tell them to go to Old Town for services. And there's a staggering number of homeless from other states who've shown up in Portland because their hometowns' idea of homeless outreach is buying them a Greyhound bus ticket. It can't only be the liberal so called "sanctuary cities" that take on the country's impoverished. The resources are just spread to thin. All communities, rural, urban, or suburban need to make an investment in taking care of their own. Unfortunately, i foresee most conservative communities continuing to see all of our homeless as a problem that only liberal cities should be responsible for.

@@iriswiater9887the true stupidity was criminalising them in the first place. Alcohol is THE WORST drug yet isn't criminalised due to the harm it being illegal has caused.
