The Wind Symphony opens its 2023-2024 season on Wednesday, Oct. 4 in Weigel Auditorium. Conductor Russel C. Mikkelson will lead the ensemble in a wonderfully varied program featuring visiting assistant professor of trombone, Elisabeth Shafer on Bert Appermont’s Colors.
Also included are three recent works, all written by female composers - Bright Shadow Fanfare, Nicole Piunno; Coming Home, Jillian Whitaker; and a consortium premiere of Ohio State alumna Erika Svanoe’s newest piece, Symphony in Blue and Gold. Additionally, the concert includes Percy Grainger’s heartfelt and sentimental Colonial Song. Sarah Baker and Shawn Davern will share the podium as DMA student conductors.
