this analysis over-simplifies the calculation, because you assume a TSR of 4, but that value is unknown for a new turbine design

It is not simplification but rather a method. Rpm is determined by the generator and the wind. Apriori, you repeat the analysis at different tip speed ratios and then intersect it with the generator curve. Then you determine the rotational speed of the turbine as a function of wind speed. But specifying rotational speed apriori is to obtain the aerodynamic performance of the wind turbine. It is like determining chacteristics of a gasoline engine, which is not a simplification. But the operating line is a result of matching with the gearbox, which has a separate characteristics…
