Norfolk Southern P29 eastbound from New Bern to Morehead City, NC with a rare shipment of wind turbine generators on 8-axle flats, heading to the state port for transload. The turbine generators are heading to a windmill project (Timbermill Wind) near Edenton, NC.
The turbines were originally a separate train, symboled NS 980 from Meridian, MS. In addition to the turbine generators, eastbound P29 also had several covered hoppers, asphalt tankers, and empty rail flats for the state port, along with the usual loaded rock hoppers for Hanson Aggregates. This made for an unusually long consist of 85 cars, almost triple the average length for P29.
In this video, eastbound P29 is seen on Hancock Street in New Bern, rolling east through downtown Newport, and street running on Arendell Street in downtown Morehead City. The line into Morehead City is known as the EC-line, which is the former Atlantic & East Carolina from Goldsboro.
