This song has such harsh and sweet tunes, a conglomeration where the sweetness is most agreeable for someone like me who totally despises melodies most of the time.
It's so unfortunate... that Valfar died. This band was on the rise and would have kept growing. Windir was something original. But I understand that the rest of the band buried Windir with Valfar, it was HIS band, kind of. I don't think they could have kept Windir's "atmosphere" without Valfar. I am still a HUGE fan of Windir, it's one of my favorite bands. And the songs still provoke the same emotions as if it was the first time I heard them. Hail Windir.
Valfar was the engine in this machine. Windir were still a bit underground when he passed away, not many knew that Windir existed and there was not many tours outside Norway.
an absolute fucking masterpiece of human ingenuity. This will be heralded as a celebration of human ability and suffering and grief and humanity in general. The -present- is not ready for it, but the future will know it for what it is. Valfar and Windir are global treasures for channeling raw emotion and power and sorrow into pure music
he inspired me to do my own solo project...if one day people like it one sixteenth of this i will be eternally happy..but nNO ONE COULD EVER COMPARE TO THE FEELINGS HIS MUSIC STIRRS INSIDE YOU...no matter what country your from.........OLYMPIA WA...USA
Despite not understanding a word, I can't stop listening to this song, one of the best metal pieces I've ever heard. This part that starts at minute 6:07 is so exciting I'd like to listen to it on repeat for hours
Most expressivenes atmosphere i've heard in my few years of life... certanly, after many years after this day, i'll the same respect about this grandiosity. Heil Windir ! Valfar, see you in Valhalla after my time here !
Several of Windir's songs are my favorite black metal songs. This is one of them. I love the bass in this song, but the arpeggio riff that begins at 1:05 and repeats throughout the song is fucking epic. In fact Valfar was reknowned for his arpeggio picking and that's a big part of why their songs are fucking awesome.
5:22 - this is where ecstasy starts...however, i hear imperfections in this live performance, hence i prefer the studio version, which is the true refined jewel
Fuck, i hate being born in 1995, all the good bands are either disbanded or one of their band members who was essential to the group has passed. R.I.P Valfar.
So what do you want to say with that? By the way, hypothermia is not a horrible death, you simply become unconscious after a while, but you don't feel anything, except longing for sleep.
When he died in a desolate place I was sad. Really loved this guy's performance. I wondered how he talked here about a tragedy of a thousand years ago. Can someone tell me please? One of the best songs ever made. Big fan from Belgium.
@agnosticforce It could mean feigning. But since they are Norwegian they could have miss spelled it (No biggy, Allot of bands do from Scandinavia) From what i learned it means To give a false appearance
When 5:22 starts.. i wonder how Valfar created that part.. As a musician my self. Was he on something like acid to create something so pure and genious? Hail Valfar For Life
His death wasn't perfect, he was walking to his cottage, a snowstorm hit and he froze to death. He didn't lay down to sleep in the mountains. The scenery might of cheered him up a bit, but for the most part it was a horrible death :(
As good as or better than(live).. : Mayhem, Immortal, Samael, Rotting Christ, Tiamat, Bewitched, Sepultura, Dark Funeral, Naglfar, Thyrfing, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Impaled Nazarene, Taake, Hypocrisy, Slayer, My Dying Bride, Dissection, Satyricon, Meshuggah, Entombed, Unleashed, Grave, Unanimated, Merciless, Saxon.. For a start at least..
No you noob. I am laughing because he made a joke about Dakota Fanning and you completely missed it. I don't listen to Avenged Sevenfold, i am a guitar teacher and i learned one solo at the request of a student so i could teach him.
