Well it was designed to be put together by a normal person at a factory. So it really shouldn't be that hard to take it apart and diagnose a problem as long as the basic understanding of how a diesel engine works is there.
It's better to have good holes in your boat than bad holes, if people drilled out holes and filled them with epoxy and use butyl tape under every piece of hardware, they would be well served.
Another great video Sam! It was fun to watch the boat project and your mangrove adventure. A tip for drilling holes in the deck with core. Drill the hole to the size you need it then install an allon wrench in your drill and use the short side to hollow out the core between the sheets of fiberglass. You may need to cut down the short side a bit to get it to work in smaller holes. Fill the void and you have a stronger better sealed hole through the boat. Hat tip to Dan from Sailing UMA for this method. Thanks for sharing!
That always irks me seeing prop marks gouged into manatees- used to see it frequently when I lived on the canal in Merritt island Fl on the central east coast. Live in Dallas now and I truly miss Florida.
Leaking at the seams gas tank. Garden tiller, check. Hydraulic splitter, check. Lawn mower, check. Guess I need to buy a soldering iron. Thanks, Sam. Love your vids.
C'mon Sam, keep us in the loop. Who's the girl in this video and the one who's with you on your current trip to the Everglades and Marathon? Inquiring minds want to know. 😀
Not really interested in someone's personal life. Simply because asking such questions is just plain creepy especially from a completely anonymous stranger that really has no right to know. Creepers got to Creep I guess.
@@freequest agree totally, single adults shouldn't need to explain who they spend time with. And these videos are really great. New Sub. and loving his content.
@@freequest or you know...someone who shares every part of his boat life has a guest and isnt showing them for whatever reason and its human nature to be curious. Not everyone is a creep.
Hi Sam. Really enjoy your videos. Your mix of content is exciting I.e. technical issues and solutions, real sailing techniques, good quality videos and straight forward commentary. Please continue to post as there appear to be many others like me who are reliving dreams/memories etc.. thanks Sam and stay safe.
We used to repair plastic kayaks with a plastic welder. We would shave plastic off of a different spot to build up larger holes on the bottom of the boats.
That is right no glue will stick to that kind of plastic (propylene something, I think) and heat is the only way .Inside bladder would be tricky . Good job. I love the simplicity of your videos ,like real. Thanks for sharing
Really enjoy the videos and have learned a lot. I've been interested in sailing for years, and between you and Christian Williams, I was inspired to go ahead and buy a boat to get the party started. I look forward to following your future adventures. Cheers.
great channel and love your make do approach; however you may want to consider adding backing plate for the windlass mount in stead of washers.... wasn't clear if you used epoxy or actual varnish on the wood base; expoxy won't stand up to UV so you may want to paint it .....
Carburetors aren’t so bad. Use good fuel and put some inline fuel filters on. As you know it only takes a bit of debris to clog those jets and other small areas. I use non-ethanol in all my small engines so I get pretty good service from them. Love your videos and looks like you are having a blast. Thanks for sharing.
Great deal on that little dingy Sam! I had no clue that Nissan made outboard motors. Exploring with that little thing would be a blast! Great content as usual!
You videos are entertaining and informative. I for one like to see you dig into a project and make it happen. PS it always makes for a better video if there is a good looking woman in a bikini.
Love the boat project videos, right now I'm readying my Buccaneer 240 I purchased last fall. Weather permitting she will be in the water on her mooring this week Wednesday otherwise by Friday for sure. I'm doing a lot of the same work right now.
Another great video 👍 I'm always impressed by how you repair and install all you different items. Really well done! One word of caution is not to post a video touching manatees. I'm sure you didn't 😉. But sometimes people are really crazy about that stuff. I've personally swam with manatees and if they don't want to be close to you they would just swim away faster that you can even with find on. Still awesome video 👌 and can't wait to follow you on your adventure 😁
I'm envious of your windless, nice install! Have fun heading north up the coast, the way 2020 is going you sure as hell don't want to get rubbed out in "500 year" hurricane in Southern Florida! 😁
Eh ! Sam is there still a persistent tick from engine ?? Dude.. ya gotta put a backing plate underneath windless also. This will even out stress load a bolt down points..
Just got my insurance from Farm bureau and it was only a $20/yr difference from $100k liability and $2k med pay to $1mil liability and $10k med pay. I definitely went with the $1 million liability and $10 k med pay!
Sam, I've been there and done that with those cheesy internal gas tanks on small outboards. Personally, I'd just toss that leaky tank & rig a hose fitting to the outboard & run it off the portable fuel tank you recently bought. Now you'll have dual purposes for that new tank!
I lived in Marathon for 7 years when we had our 32ft sloop. If by chance you happen to go ashore on Big Pine Key stop in at CocoNuts Bar n Grill. Tell the owner, Joe Britz that "Baravelli" says hello. Not sure what the current restrictions are in the keys but hoping they are getting back to ab-normal. Lol
Thanks Sam. Another great vlog. The little dinghy looked to be a lot of fun! Are you going to give it a name? Deirdre the dinghy maybe. More holes in your boat than a Swiss Cheese. :-)
Hello Sam. Fantastic, your new video, you are a DIY man. one of the doubts I have for a long journey is the issue of garbage. On your trip from the American continent to Hawaii, how did you solve the garbage issue? Did you throw organic into the sea, plastic and cardboard from food products, stored until you reach a port? Thank you very much, greetings from Spain.
Try to get rid of as much packaging as possible before hand. Organic, paper and metal goes overboard leaving only a bag of plastic to dispose of in port.
Did you ever make it through the white sandy beaches of the Florida Panhandle? Just curious... Didn’t want to see you miss a good place, before you went up the East coast
Everything is on the Internet nowadays, especially RU-vid. Just search and you’ll find someone has put it online. Even found a lady had put a video up showing how to hand wash dishes. That’s when I realised the resource the internet had become. Of course, use info with discretion, there’s as much useful info as there is “spam”. Check several sources before proceeding, and common sense.
Great to watch your DIY boat work Sam, and I'm sure you know, but putting blue tape under the board before epoxy will avoid the drips and having to sand off later....Do you have a house on a canal or just lucky? I think it's time for introductions and the lovely lady....
Not too long ago I got a plastic welding kit for my RC cars I really like a lot it works great you can fix all kinds of stuff. Oh yeah looking at the other comments I forgot to ask who's the girl !!!
I would not recommend using a heat source like a soldering iron on anything that contained fuel, for fear of an explosion when the fuel fumes ignite! I would rather have used a layer of glass resin to paint over the fuel tank, but I am no expert!
It's best to purge any fuel tank with water before applying any heat or cutting into it. I bet that leak opens up again from vibration. I'd run the engine with an external tank. Cute little motor!
