This took a little bit to get used to ru-vid.comUgkxfzbDkCRyv3CFXnLZI4APZtRRuG2uRmP2 but once I got the hang of it this has been an awesome tool. The slow start and the adjustable speeds are just what I needed to control the cutting and polishing I needed to do. Adjusting the side handle from left-to-right helped in a few spots. the top bar was basically useless, as it failed to keep it's seat under pressure. This tool is a little heavy, though. I am a big guy and not in the best of shape, but could still muscle this thing around my boat in this summer's heat. This thing is worth it's weight in gold given the shine I was able to bring back to my heavily oxidized boat. If you need it, buy it, you won't regret it.
Awesome book that gives you step-by-step photos ru-vid.comUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt and directions to make every day project. I can see myself making a few of these projects and giving them as housewarming and holiday gifts!
It’s not possible for you to post too many bench building videos. Keep ‘em coming. It’s always helpful to see your process. This one turned out beautifully.
That Emerald Urethane Enamel is fantastic stuff. It self levels very nicely. So, if you don't have a sprayer, rolling it still looks great. Just don't overwork it.
Jason, I might live in a country where the average monthly salary is around 500$, we don't have forests so wood is twice as expensive and thanks to the 27% VAT, even tools cost more, but your presentation and enthusiasm lets me forget all of it and inspires me to keep going.
Poland ...feel your pain Average person earn 600$ per month Renting 30m2 cost 400-600$ Food 150$ Phone etc 30$ Other bills like water etc 100$ So its impossible to live alone If u want a house ..oh man... Prices are the same if u already have one so u will pay taxes etc for it like for renting 30m2 And i dont even add to that wood etc for heating (around 1200$ per year for 100-150m2 house or if u have heat pump around 600$) Fuel is like 2$ so u spend like 100$++ per month to drive to work And what u left with ? Nothing? Average dewalt tool because of taxes and transport Drill with battery is like 350$ Plywood is like 80$ sheet ... Yes 80$ with your 600$ monthly sallary (lets say u are good welder.... U will earn around 1200$ (good welder in good job) U will spend 500$ house 100$ bills like water electricity , 20$ phone 100$ fuel , food 150$ and ad to your year budget 200$ per month for heating the house Car repair Other taxes And u left with 100$ Per month If u are good welder that works 12h 5 days per week Renting / building a workshop is like 200$ / 30000$ Tools cheap ones 300$ cheapest ones 100$ Do i need to ad festool to the list 😅 Overall we can stay positive only because of vids/tutorials like this So keep them comming 😁
You can use that trick when installing baseboard between two walls, only you don't need the the piece of wood, it'll just snap tightly into place. Of course the baseboard has to be long enough to be able to bow slightly.
A tip on painting, always start with the edges, and hard to reach places, then the faces. By doing this you avoid over spray, and bad finish on the face.
So you mock the previous build for gluing and tacking, then proceed to build something by glue and tacking? Okay. Can't imagine there's anything wrong with red oak; seems better than MDF. Better than painting wood 🤦 Love the hipsters. Looks good anyway.
I kind of understand the amusement of making fun of other people's work, especially for professionals, but this isn't what I saw. I can imagine the original bench as the work of a DIYer who knew enough to do a plinth, face framing (despite it being tacked on), who was competent enough to make things level and square. Yeah, they might have used glue instead of something else, but then again they might not have spent several hundred/thousand dollars on a workshop, air compressor, table saw, and had years and decades of experience as a professional. The original bench, if it was done by a DIYer, would probably be better than what 95% of homeowners can do themselves. In a previous era without the judgement of RU-vid and social media, most of us would have enormous respect for a typical person who could create something like that. Having seen your other videos, I know you didn't intend anything malicious by those comments, but it's worth keeping in mind how it can come across. It would be much more useful to point out what area could be improved by the original build, or why something is bad. You might think: well, it's just a joke. Don't be so sensitive. But these jokes can hinder people from learning or from experimenting if they're terrified their projects are going to be laughed at.
Your double clamping of the pocket holes is crucial. Most times I see people concentrating on keeping them flat, but if they’re not tight together, the angle of the screw will still pull them out of coplanar.
Amazing skills, my man. I've been looking for a tutorial for a DIY bench just like this but this is definitely not DIY, at least not at my DIY level. haha you're a professional with all those tools. Keep these videos coming - very information. Thank you!
U can always mock something up with ikea upper 15x 30 cabinet frames, 30 inch base cabinet drawers and 2 by 4 reinforcements for the seating. I went to ikea a few times and found all the stuff in the as is section, 80$ drawer fronts will sell for 5-10$ there. Takes a few visits to get all the parts u need but u can cut the counter prices down to like 25% this way
Beautiful bench build. I'm actually thinking of doing something similar soon but the sides of the window are open so I want to put bookshelves up both sides. Make a comfortable little reading nook. Or napping spot.
Where I live a layer of Celotex (PIR) foam insulation on the wall helps to avoid black mould growing in the cold unventilated space behind the cabinet. You lose an inch of interior depth but its not really noticeable.
Haha true. Although I do demo like he does, and my wife has learned to live with it! As long as you clean up your own mess, and do so quickly, I say it’s up to you.
Try swapping that drill out for an impact the next time you're drilling pocket holes, the impact is noticeably faster and easier. Not sure why drills are still around, they're just crappier slower versions of impacts lol. Drilling through metal? Throw a step bit in an impact, so fast and easy it's like magic
Super nice. Yes Blum needs to get it figured out PRONTO. My supplier hinted that things should be getting much better in the next few months. FINGERS CROSSED. Shaker door/drawer frames are timeless, as well as white oak. Great combo its pretty hot here too on the west coast. (No idea where you are)
Sweeping in my socks, catchy tune, I bit hard to dance to though Dick I give it a 90 lol. Seriously the old unit looks like a pre built unit laid on its side and tacked into place. You always rock everything. This is so impressive. I love it. Come on pocket holes are better than sanding. We know you love sanding.
Wow. For a few seconds, I thought this was the bench you built last year. I had to go back and rewatch. OK. I approve of the new one. Funny that you mentioned the other bench at the end.
Had to buy identical undermounting drawer slides from Amazon for the same reason. Boy, are they heavy! I am still putting face frames on my three units, so the slides will be next. Hope they go in easy!
Why does us Americans always walk with their shoes at home, except the moment there are wood splitters, screws and bunch of dirt on the floor? 🤔😂 Nice video as always!
I love the look of this sort of window bench/seat. The cushions are a great splash of color to distract from the unfortunate issue with these benches -- you are still sitting on a board. (am about to do the upholstered bench cushion thing here) Loved the music video. Are you strictly a cotton man, or do you seek out a bit of synthetics fo help your hosiery keep up with the needs of the the modern woodworker?
Me: Nice bench, I wish I had the skills to make one like that! Jason: This bench is TERRIBLE, I am going to build a new one from scratch. Me: Cries inside.
Sweeping In My Socks sounds a lot like some modern russian dance music. Who knew Bourbon Moth was a Russian spy? or a Russian college student. I think they like the same music.
What type of plywood do you use when it’s only for the frame (not shown)? Is the one at home depot ok or should I go to a place where they have better grade?
I must say. I could listen to this man read the ingredients in shampoo and conditioner. Such a satiny smooth voice. Per my wife, very sexy she says. Love the videos.
Hope u saved those 2x4 from frame damm 8’ 2x4 here is $12 that looks like a 2x4x12’ or 16’ that’s $35 a board unreal 1x2 used to be .76 cents at menards now they r $3 plywood near average of 80-100$ a sheet Osb blows my mind up to $75 a sheet here for 15/32 🤦🏻♂️ can build with real plywood cheaper (almost)
I am glad I subscribed to your channel a couple of months ago. You get my Sunday off to a good start because you are silly and make me laugh just about every episode. Thanks.
Great job! Now C’mon dude $229 for the true position hardware jig.😡 I dont make any doe on my projects so this girl will have to stick the old fashion way. ☹️. Thanks for sharing your build.
Your Monstera Deliciosa is sad. He wants a shower. Oh! So does your Shefflera Amate. (Of course you could always ship them to me, please.) But your work is still 👌 fab.
As I slowly work from room to room remodeling our home, I frequently curse the full name of the previous owner of my home (literally first, middle, and last - to the point my children know his name) ... And sometimes, 5 years into the remodel and 5 years of developing my own skills, I also curse my own work from that first year's projects. Yes, I use my own first, middle, and last name in the same tone when I curse my own blunders. Turnabout is fair play.
great video, new subscriber! how long did this one take start to finish? I noticed when you started there are barely any flower buds in the bush outside your window, and fully bloomed when you were done, but I have no idea how long that takes ha. thanks again! c
Looks nice but if I may, I have to say that it's not "completely different" to the previous bench, all you really did was change the colour and added drawers, would it not have made sense to re-use or up-cycle the old bench by adding some cushions or foam padding and a lick of paint? Adding drawer runners and building drawers is all that was needed. It feels a shame to waste something that could be fixed.
I'm a little late to the party, but can someone explain how he attached the drawer slides to the carcass? He didn't seem to push them flush against the side wall and they seem inset behind the face frame. I didn't think the Blum slides had screw holes to screw them into the bottoms. And, if they're not flush to the sides, how can he be sure that they are 90* to the opening?
Man I wish I could say the same for everything I've demoed at my house. It's poorly built in the opposite direction: about 3x as many screws as it needs and they're all stripped.
Your end scene you should have taken your shoes off and laid down and then instead of saying sweeping in my socks said "sleeping in my socks", then breaking out to a new song. I love watching your videos for the stuff you make as well as your goofy personality I find myself always cracking up to some weird comment you make during your voice overs.
I'm thinking that you may not have any saying on what to put in those drawers. Your better half will, presumably ,not be on the exact same page as you 😄But the bench looks great 😎
Your new bench is clearly better than the old one. That said, I think you were a little hard on the guy who built the old bench. He probably did the best he could, and ended up with something that made the room better than it was before.
Excellent videos. I really enjoy your work. Not only extremely informative but also humorous and entertaining. This may not be in your interest, although I'm sure it's very much in your abilities, but do you have any videos about making storage bed frames (king size) with the gas struts? And or concealment furniture? Thanks
I'm wanting to put in a window bench, but there's a vent right in the middle of where the bench would be. Could I leave that middle section open and have the cabinets only on the sides? What would I need for adequate support for someone sitting there?
Painting tip if sherwin Williams doesn't have the Emerald urethane see if they have Pro industrial waterbased alkyd urethane it's the same stuff just a different label
If you want the bench top to look absolutely perfect against a textured wall you can get color matched caulk and run the smallest bead along the edges. Then wipe all excess off leaving it perfectly level with the bench. It looks so crisp and no one will ever be able to tell that its there but it just makes a good scribe look 10x better.
You say it was useless and what they were thinking, not even made of solid oak. Who cares? It looked perfectly fine and it jad storage and a bench to sit on
