Window Fan Stopped Working. How to fix it?
In this video I take apart electric window fan and test the fuse, switch and contacts of all wires and electrical components.
If you enjoy taking apart electric appliances it other machines, you will definitely enjoy watching this video.
This is a how to video.

Cutting to the chase - he doesn't figure it out, I skipped ahead to the end. Don't know if he thought to check the fuse in the plug before taking it apart.

At about 5 minute mark he visually checks the fuse. Doesn't check with a multimeter though.

At about 9:40 he shorts across the fuse with a nail.

Dave Zimmerman is correct. Your thermal fuses located on the fan coils have overheated and blown. I have the exact same model and problem. Mine went out during a high wind storm and it’s my guess the wind gusts caused the fan blade to over spin, heat up the coil and blow.

This is interesting. I was sure it was a fuse problem until you demonstrated the lightbulb test. I have this same model and it works fine. Hope you can fix it!!

I also have a new Lasko double fan for the window. It worked great in the morning, but when I went to turn it on later, nothing happened-it was dead! I took it apart and diagnosed the problem. It all boils down to the Lasko SAFETY PLUG. The tag on the power cord that states this tag is not to be removed also goes on to say in small lettering, "If this fan stops working, it is because of the safety plug. Do not try to repair. Thow it out and buy a new one." TO HELL WITH THAT SHIT! I bought a $5 replacement plug, and I am back in business! I also checked the Amp draw, and it's only 1/2 amp, so I inserted an inline fuse just for safety's sake. This fan comes with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for remote control, so I sure as hell was NOT going to throw it out, Lasco! This was not a cheap fan!

The motors on the fans have a fuse in line with the motor windings. You have to carefully cut away the paper/wax paper that covers the windings and either replace or short the fuse to get the fans working. This is a thermal fuse which means it will open due to the windings getting too hot even if they are not drawing too much power. I would not recommend this kind of repair if you are not adept with soldering and have a good working knowledge of how electricity works. The wax paper can be replaced with electrical tape after you are done. The downside of this is if you do remove and short around the fuse the windings will likely overheat and short causing the main fuse to blow if they encounter the same conditions that caused the thermal fuse to open.

*Works great with **Fastly.Cool** , exactly as described. Love the fact that it can push, pull, or exchange air with the push of a button. The remote is a nice bonus too!*

Mine stopped working too. Not the same brand, but it looks very similar inside. The white wire had become disconnected inside- it's not very secure (you can see where it just pops out at 7:25)! I took the fan apart, shoved it back in place (securing it with some electrical tape) and tested the fan by turning the switch and it started working again.

Me and my uncle are having the same exact problem we connectected the white to a red and our theory is we fried it, we did this thinking the problem was in the switch so we decided to completely take out the black but we think that might have been a mistake

Really?! Pry off the clips with a screwdriver? It seems like that's a good way to break the clip. There has to be a better way to take them off. Apparently it's top secret information that the industry doesn't want us to know.

The red and blue wires go to low and high coils in each fan motor and are not meant to be connected at the same time since the coils will fight each other. The motors require a starting capacitor to get them started. If it was a bad starting capacitor, you could a fan operating by manually turning a fan blade. You should be fine doing that on a small fan motor like those with just a finger, but for powerful motors like air conditioner motors, you should use a stick or screwdriver. It is likely the coils in both motors are just fried. That can happen if the motor stalled. When that happens, the motor spins too slowly for a certain amount of time. Due to a property of inductance, the coils in a motor can draw more current than the coils can handle causing the motor to burn up. This is why you should not use external motor speed controllers that were not recommended by the fan manufacturer. At any rate, the wind might have been blowing against the motor too hard preventing the fan from moving fast enough for an extended amount of time causing the motor coils to burn up. That sometimes also blows the fuse. If the motor has fried, it's best just to replace the fan. Running the fans on high helps keep the fan motors up to speed if it is fighting the wind. Turning the fan around or reversing the fan direction the fan if it has that feature will help a lot.

You don't have a clue about the problem he's diagnosing. Each of the motors have a thermal overload connected to the common wire that are open.

With my AccuTemp twin window fan the fault was in the circuit board. Instead of repairing it I bypassed it by connecting the white neutral wire (connected to the power plug wire neutral) to the red wire (using wire nut) off the 2 fan motors after cutting off their respective connections to the circuit board. Tape over the cut wires. So when plugged in and both fan switched to air intake mode both will run. Fans will run only on air intake mode. Reinstalling the two plastic clip stops to the right side louver is the tricky last step in reassembly before reinstalling the left side louver. To install the first clip I took the rubber tips off an Irwin Quick Clamp. Then put in the clip as far as it could go in. Now clamp to hold down each side to bring down the inclined ramp at each leg of the clip level with the surface of the plastic case. Then hammer in the top of the clip so both legs of the clips go in at the same time evenly slipping in under the plastic case. Do the same for the other clip. Reinstall the left louver. Secure bottom with duct tape so louver position will be fixed and not slip up or down. Replace the rubber tips of the Irwin Quick Clamp.
