Thank you so much this tutorial was outstanding I am 71 yrs. old and the computer confuses me but you made it so simple even I understand. I have subscribed and look forward to learning more. Thank you seems like such a small statement for the valuable information you gave me.
Hi Julianne, No problem, thank you for watching! Most of my tutorials are basic concepts so I have to make sure new users can understand. Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed the tutorial, your comment was very nice. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
You are phenominallll! Why can't everyone teach like you? Well done - I've finally learned the fundamentals of file management. I bought a course on it and it was probably for windows 95! Thank you PM, now I can get my computer sorted and maybe get a job with my new found skills!!! Such a hero to the rescue, now I will be the boss of my computer !!!
Thanks so much, I have always struggled with this part of personal computing. Over the years I have given into the bad habit of storing everything on my desktop, as the desktop fills up, then I create a file on my desktop, dragging the excess pictures and documents there, ultimately never to be seen again. Thanks again for such a straightforward video here, you have shed a great light on this subject for me.
Hi Mark, I am glad this video helped you out. Many of my students struggle with file organization. Storing files on the desktop is something that a lot of people do, and it becomes a huge mess. Hopefully your files will be much more organized, happy to help!
I'm 15 and I just got my first laptop for High School. I'm good with phones and tablets but I never understood "older" technology like computers and laptops. That being said, "File Explorer" always confused me SO much! Thanks for this awesome video! Hahaha, I'm not even old and it helped me a lot!
You aren't the only one. I graduated high school in 2014 and even then many of my classmates had no idea how to use a computer short of writing Word documents or browsing the web.
Thank you. I am about to scan my photos, and arrange them. I am an older person so I appreciate this instruction!! Otherwise I have to ask the grandkids.
Thank you for showing me how to use files .. I've been trying to do this for quite a time now .. I don't have 1 tech bone in my body but your explanation was clear and simple . I'm 52 and never used a computer until discovering cricut
Thank you very much for helping me understand file management I have allways had my files and folders all over the place and not able to find navigate and find things.with your help I now have a neat and easy to access file sytem.Great stuff thanks🙏
You are the best teacher. I have learned more with this video than I have ever learned at the Microsoft store and I had to buy their time. Many thanks.
Hi Margaret, Thanks so much! I am glad my video was helpful for you. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask and I will try to help. Have a nice day.
Thank you. Your first half dozen words made my life all the more easier because knowing that the "file explorer" was there took all the confusion out of windows 10 and its idiotic way of doing things. I can now navigate my computer the way it should be navigated, just as it was in windows 7. You're a star.
Oh it was more than helpful. I have put off upgrading from Windows 7 for some years now and avoided Windows 8 like the plague. Had to bite the bullet last week and go to Windows 10 and it's sooooooo not friendly. Couldn't for the life of me figure out how to copy and past my photos from my phone to my PC and had to import them instead, then not being able to figure out how to organise things in *photos* was driving me nuts. As soon as I found your video and you said "I'm just gonna open file explorer" ..... BINGO. Everything was sorted. It's gonna take me a while to figure out *everything* but at least I can sort out my pics. Your video was clear and concise with no waffling so for that I thank you. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, I am a new silver surfer, first taught on Win7. Been struggling to teach myself, You have made it simpler than reading/struggling all the jargon I have read.
Thank you for this great video. I have used Windows for many years at work, but could only get Windows 10 in a new laptop several years ago, and have been so frustrated with it. While trying to get photos off it for photo album consolidation, I started googling for help, deciding to find a basic Windows 10 tutorial, to start from scratch in understanding it, before I continued my project. I came across this video, and already learned things I hadn’t known.. I am going to check out your other videos in hopes of being better able to navigate it. Your narrative and instructions are exceptional! Thanks so much!
Your videos really help me a lot. Its been a long time since I have had a computer and I am trying to figure it all out. and I am wanting to make sure I store my pictures and videos correctly to not take up an enormous amount of space on my pc. Thank You for all the great tips!
Hi Stacy, I am glad these videos have helped you out. Great job getting back into computers, I hope that you're learning a lot. Typically, pc hard drives can hold more than enough pictures for the average user. I'd recommend storing them on an external hard drive if you have lots (10,000+) and don't want to use too much space on your pc. Thanks for watching and have a nice day!
I really appreciate your channel because u helped me understand more do to the fact am a computer dummies and I believe u r DEFINITELY trustworthy THANK you so much Adam I dnt understand why u got DISLIKES 👎 b cause u r GREAT 👍
I appreciate that! Thank you so much for watching my videos. Who knows why on the dislikes... maybe they were looking for something else. Have a nice day!
Very good tutorial - my only teeny criticism is that most users will not be seeing file extensions (.rtf .jpg etc) as that is not usually the default setting in Windows (for good reason as I'm sure you're aware). It would have been at least worth mentioning that for those that do have file extensions shown because they've turned on that option. As you know renaming and/or deleting a file extension has the potential to make a file unusable, unless you know how to rename back again! Cheers, Paul (Macclesfield, UK)
Hi Paul, Yes, that is true, it is off by default. I do have a video on how to turn these on. It's before this one in the playlist, so if anyone is interested, here it is: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m58rkfVRDlc.html
Thank you so much for this basic info. which has confused me very much. I am older and there is just no place to learn this stuff. I am going to go thru all your videos and learn.
Thank you for this great easy to follow video on Win10 file management. I knew my file organization was a mess, but when I recently upgraded Photoshop and did a bulk find of all graphic-type files, I found my files were a disaster. Back in the '80's, I lost a lot of irreplaceable files due to a HD crash and no backup. Since then I have mirrored every hard drive and have multiple drives mounted. While I no longer lose files these days, I do have multiple duplicates of the same files. There used to be a good program that searched and reported exact duplicates. Can you recommend a similar program? I definitely want to get organized as you show, but I first need to do some major "PC house cleaning". If my PC was my home, NOBODY would be invited over LOL. Thanks again and you have a new subscriber.
Hi Sea BrzJo, I am happy this video was helpful for you. You’re not alone, many people have messy file organization. I also stress to my students how important it is to develop this skill, otherwise they will spend more time looking for files, and unfortunately, losing them. Backing up files is very important. Hard Drives are more durable than they used to be, but they can still crash like yours did. I don’t know of a good program to delete exact duplicates. Depending on how many files you actually have, you may find that most of them get cleaned up while you organize your drives. Perhaps focus on a few folders at a time. Don’t burn yourself out or you’ll have a tougher time organizing. Thanks so much for subscribing and best of luck with your organization.
I learned here, even though I came for HOW to add to a new folder I made. UGH, I know ! I struggle with the more advanced areas of Win 10. This not advanced to some, but my brain is not figuring out a lot of PC actions. I will check your tutorials, see how else I can learn !!! Thumbs up is done. I handled that ! LOL THANK YOU.
wow. this wasnt what i was looking for , but i watched it regardless. it was such a nice calm refresher. great tutorial nice style, nice modulated voice and great explanation. This should be mandatory viewing for new windows 10 users.
Great video. I was having great difficulty after upgrading from windows7., especially with files and folders. This video solved all my problems - very clear exposition. Thank you.
You did an outstanding job of explaining how to organize folders - a big high five to you. The list in my navigation pane is out of order. So far I haven't found an answer on how to re-organize in alphabetical sequence. Maybe it's not possible? If it is, can you do a video about that subject? Would be forever grateful to you.
Hi Ana, I appreciate that, thank you for watching. If you right-click on any of the sort options (Name, Status, Date Modified, etc.) and click More, you will see many options for customization. If you want, you can add or remove different options, and move important ones up or down on the list. From there, you can add Name, which will sort all files/folders in alphabetical order. I hope this helps!
@@ProfessorAdamMorgan - okay, the fix that IT attempted didn't work. It seems every time they connect in my computer stops doing the sliding around. I still can't "rename files", and every time I attempt to open a file folder, to open a document or save a document, or anything, it ignores my cursor and floats back to the beginning of the folder or documents. Is this possibly something you can help with?
Hi Georgia, I'm sorry but I haven't heard of this problem before. Typically if you go to rename a file, it'll only allow you do rename it within File Explorer or changing the save location. What happens if you click on the file, wait 2 seconds, and click on it again? Does it take you back to the primary folder?
Hi Paula, Thank you for watching, I appreciate that. I have a Windows playlist that covers more in File Explorer. I arrange the videos in order of difficulty, I hope you enjoy: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KNKgBBn_Fsg.html
Professor Morgan you have No Idea how much you are helping me! I love the way you teach, very calm and slow and easy to understand. Unlike many of the other people on you-tube.I'm an older guy, 54- 55 in a few months and brand new to computers. Not only all this but you have answered all my questions so far. Thank you so much young man. Would you mind if I come to you with all of my future questions. I will have many I'm sure..Lol Like how do I transfer a pic from my folder to my cover photo on Face Book???? HaHa. Could you please answer that one for me or refer me to a link...Thanks again Gary.
Hey Gary, Good! I'm glad the videos are helping you out. These tutorials are made with my students in mind, many of which are your age and just starting out with technology. It can be complicated if I move too quickly, so I'm glad the pace works for you. You can definitely ask my any questions you have. So I don't have any video tutorials about Facebook right now, but I'm sure I can point you in the right direction. Here are the steps to update you in the right direction: 1 Go to your profile. 2 Hover over Update Cover Photo in the top-left of your current cover photo. 3 Click Update Cover Photo. If you don't currently have a cover photo, click Add Cover Photo. 4 Choose whether you want to upload a new photo or pick a photo from one of your existing photo albums. 5 Once you choose a photo, you can reposition it by clicking the image and dragging it up or down. 6 Click Save Changes. By the way, this process is called 'Uploading' and I should have a video out on this process at some point this week. I hope this helps, and as always, thank you for the comment!
Thank you again for a great video! Do you have a video of Microsoft 2016 Windows 10 word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint all in one tutorial. I'm taking a class online for the first time and I'm a little nervous because I've never done this before but I am excited. Thank you!
Hi Angelina, No problem, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, I have a playlist on my channel for Windows 10, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. I don't have one video that has all of them, but the playlists are listed in order of difficulty. So as you want to learn a new application, just click on the playlist for the basics. Online classes can be difficult, but with the right resources and a good attitude, you can do well. Let me know if you have any questions.
You are what I have been looking for; your tutorials are easy to understand; thank you very much. I just purchased a new Windows 10 desktop and wonder if you can tell me how to transfer my old applications/programs from my old Windows 7 desktop to this new Windows 10 desktop. I do have Carbonite but not sure if it backs up my programs or not?
Hi GR Falt, I'm so glad my tutorials have been helpful for you and you find them easy to understand. Carbonite will only backup your files/folders. When you get a new computer, you typically have to download all of your old programs again. I hope this answers your question. Thanks so much for watching and have a nice day.
thankyou - never knew the difference between hitting control or hitting shift when in regards to moving pics or files ...and I have much more to learn for as central to our lives now are computers - when everything seems lost and in disarray it creates even more emotional financial and all else types of problems.. thankyou for good video intro - I am going to start using this hammer as a hammer not just some youtube entertainment machine
Hi William, RU-vid is an excellent tool for improving your skills. I have a playlist on computer fundamentals, and Microsoft Office. They are good starting points for learning how to use all types of computers. I hope that you'll find the videos on my playlist page useful.
Thank you. Very through. Well prepared. Very helpful indeed. As a Brit I tend not to follow the Northern American drawl I find it jarring (sorry) This was so excellent I overrode my prejudice.
Professor Morgan hope you're doing well. I've got a question that is probably going to sound really dumb, but I can't seem to figure out how to subscribe to a you-tube channel. I'd like to subscribe to your channel and one other. Do you have a link or easy step by step method ? I live alone up in the mountains and just don't have anyone to help me figure this stuff out.
Hey Gary, I am doing great thank you. I hope you are well. Okay so to subscribe to a RU-vid channel, you should see a subscribe button on every video page as well as the channel's home page. Here is a link to my home page. When you go there, you should be able to click the subscribe button as long as you're signed in. ru-vid.com/show-UCML68AtcFhcKebYCRbYepeQ Once you do that, you can click the little bell icon next to the subscribe button to be notified whenever the channel posts a video. I don't know if you know, but I have well over 100 videos covering various computer topics. So if you'd like to learn software, my channel is a nice resource to do that. Let me know if you need any help.
Thanks for that info Professor Morgan. And no I didn't know you had so many video's posted. I'm sure at some point I'll need to learn everything contained in their content..............Ok I subscribed. That was much easier than I was making it out to be. haha.. Just like everything else you've taught me so far.
No problem Gary, and yes I think I have somewhere around 200 videos up right now. Glad you were able to subscribe and I hope the videos will continue to be helpful for you. Yes, subscribing is very easy once you know what to do. You'll find that to be the case more often than not, thanks!
No, you can get to any chanel's homepage by clicking on their name. So if you ever click 'Professor Adam Morgan' below any of my videos, it will always take you to my home page.
I came across your videos and think they are very good. You mentioned adding a comment if we have any questions. Is there a way to paste a folder into multiple folders at the same time? I know there are some programs that do this. I wonder if there is an easy way to do this if you do not have a program that does it?
Whenever I upgrade to a new computer the first two programs I install are Directory Opus as a replacement for File Explorer, and Start10 as a replacement for the Windows Startup menu. Directory Opus costs a bit of money, but highly worth it. One feature is multiple tabs. Another is multiple layouts. I have one layout for downloading stuff. One for writing software. One for listening to music. You can have multiple active layouts on your desktop on only one layout at any time. Too many other features to mention. I will not use File Explorer.
Hi, Quick Access is the area where you can store files and folders that you use often. You can remove folders from there as well. Right click on any file or folder and click 'Pin to Quick Access' and ti'll pin it so you can use it all the time. I hope this helps, thanks for watching.
@@ProfessorAdamMorgan Thanks , so when you save a file to a certain folder does it go to two different folders , one in quick access and one somewhere else or is quick access just a shortcut ??
Thank U! You have thought us a lot of beneficial Values!!.. I greatly Appreciated! I would like to ask you how to secure PC from Hackers, prevent Unauthorized person from steeling Contents, or viewing your page, please keep these Content coming they'er REALLY GOOD!!..I Thanks U so much for your time!
Hi Ven, Thank you for watching. My advice to avoid hackers/viruses etc. is to not download any unknown program to your computer. Basically, avoid downloading much of anything unless it is something you need from a trusted source. Have a great day.
Thank you for watching, Noah. Best of luck on learning computers, I am glad this video was helpful! Here is a link to my computer fundamentals playlist: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OGM2BJ29Syg.html
Thank you for your excellent tutorial. I'm a new subscriber and wish I had found you a long time ago . Like several others I'm older, but not new to computers just never had one that I organized before . I've got lots of videos to watch so better get started . Thanks again.
Hi HillaryS., Thank you for watching, I appreciate that you decided to subscribe as well. Organizing a computer can be difficult if you've never done it before, but hopefully this video cleared up some things. If you have questions, let me know and I'll try to help. Have a nice day!
Hello, everytime i use the search syntax, i have to click a arrow to search a file/ document. Why is that and how to go back to the convenient search wherein you just click enter or search what u want to search and then the file shows up, which is simple and quick. Is it because of the 1909 windows update?
Hi SugoiP, The way to quickly search for a file is by pressing the Windows key and then immediately typing the file or folder than. That search will allow you to find just about anything on a computer. I hope that helps.
Great explanation of basic file management techniques, BUT I am trying to do this: I have a master folder with multiple files. Then, for some reason, I created another file WITHIN this folder along with multiple individual files. HOW CAN I "unsort" all the files within the inner folder and allow all files to be seen and managed from the main folder? If this makes sense, I would appreciate feedback on.
Hi Mark, You need to remove the folders from the Inner (subfolder) and move them to the main folder. To do this, go into the subfolder, and do a control+A on your keyboard to select all of the files. From the do a control+X to cut the files. It'll look like they disappear, don't worry, they don't. Then go to the main folder, then do Control+V to paste all of the files to the main folder. Then delete the subfolder since it'll now be empty. I hope this helps you out.
i just built a beast of a pc to handle my photo and art files and was struggling to organize so was gonna get a mac as my iphone and ipad seem so simple but this class has me rethinking that decision which means i wont have to sell this beast of a pc and prolly the benq color management 4k monitor as well just so i can afford a macbook pro or mac desktop which i dont think has a monitor that i can manage the color on .
