Windows 10 Users Need To Change This Setting NOW!
Microsoft have just confirmed that they are restarting feature updates for Windows 10. This can only be a bad thing for Windows 10 users and could be forced into updating to a version of Windows 10 with more bloat. To avoid this, disable feature updates and turn off automatic updates.

Although i have used Windows Client and Windows Server for many years, i have finally waved a goodbye to Microsoft and switched to Linux (Mint). In my opinion, Linux (Mint) is best for those who want an easy way into Linux's eco system. Its Software Center has tons of well known apps that some may have used on Windows but can also be used on Linux (Mint) or ZorinOS for that matter. I had to decide whether to use macOS or Linux, since macOS is restricted in-terms of well known apps, i decided to go for Linux (Mint) and treat is as if it was macOS albeit with, much more application support and possibly other things as-well.

AV, FW kept me out of trouble along with backup regularly, so not to worry about security update when it dies. Just in case also, Linux is getting more popular and many programs will need to adapt to Linux too and MS scares of it. So no panic here.

I believe since not only opening the beta channels for Windows 10, also giving us feature updates again. That means the 2025 end of support date for Windows 10 is not really set in stone despite what Microsoft says. I do remember that when will is 10 first came out, there are two operating systems out at the same time Windows 10 and Windows 7 Microsoft might be having a change of mind about the end of support for Windows 10 pictures of the backlash on Windows 11, like they did with Windows 7 when Windows 10 came out because the backlash Windows 8 and 8.1.

That is strongly implied. You could give it a try and see as it is unlikely to break anything and you can always switch to manual if you like. I think the manual install was chosen simply because so many people are looking for more fine grained control over what gets installed and when.

Visited my mother-in-law yesterday and she was in half a panic. Windows 11 had "accidentally" self-ruined her computer. Luckily it was within the grace period so a rollback was still possible. I was meaning to do this for a while, spotted this video and got it done, thanks! Subbed. I expect MS will try to push more AI stuff down peoples throats just to get it out to the public and maybe add more advertisement and profiling data features since MS is becoming an ad driven company as well it seems. If you're a glass half full type you might think MS is making a U turn and keep supporting W10 for longer since no one wants to throw out their perfectly-functioning-but-not-supported-by-W11 garbage thing. I have a non profit volume license so I'm hoping to get security updates for little money. If not I'll probably move my latest PC to w11 and try to strip it down. I may even just delete or rename copilot files or block it using a firewall if I have to. Other PCs (one for electronics, one for CNC and a couple of laptops) I'll probably just block everything except local network access and keep w10. One can be loaded with Linux probably, if it supports the electronics dev kits that I sometimes use. The others have non compatible software that can't run or are glitchy at best on linux.

My question is (so far this has worked fine) when I get notifications for updates, can those be offerred for other than the settings I've made to stay on 22H2? So far everything I’ve accepted (letting the updates install and then doing a winver check that still tells me I'm still on 22H2), but since I've made this change, does Microsoft’s downloading policy check on that, rather than offering “wrong“ updates (ones that don't comply with my 22H2)?

Thanks for advise, could be that they want bloat w10 into unuseability, or recognizing that few people want to update to w11 and are afraid that people will walk away and start a cascade of loss for MS. It wouldn’t be fist time that arrogance has been taught a lesson. In any case slowly I am moving to Linux, with each month of practice, Linux looks a little better

@@Britec09 I know it is what "they" say. But it really grinds me gears calling an OS an "experience"... An OS is a tool, it should make it easier to do the jobs. I don't call my lawnmower an "experience" or my cooker and "experience".... I think this is where Microsoft are getting on many peoples tits. Just provide an operating system that allows us to do our work FFS....

This is exactly the kind of "tips" I just don't understand. Not installing updates is not a solution either... Make a proper backup and if MS screws up again (and they definitely will as their quality assurance is at the moment) you can very quickly restore the backup. An external sdd/hdd and the free veeam agent are enough... btw. Windows 10 release information The final version of Windows 10 is version 22H2, which will reach end of servicing on October 14, 2025. There are no more new feature updates...

They could be trying to test run selective bit from Windows 11, so that when 10 is officially dead, they will have as much working as possible on as many pc configurations as possible.

It may come as a shock but Windows 10 will *will* continue to get support and updates after the end of life date. They are implementing a paid plan to continue and after previous Windows EOL debacles you can bet a lot of people will continue on Win10 than go to 11.

What a pain. So glad I only see Windows at work. Windows requires too much effort to retain control over it at home without being on a work domain with centralized management over it. Good explanation of how to do it though. Lets hope Microsoft doesn't sneak in an update to change those settings on you in the future.

Hej Brian thanks for the video I think it's absolutely incredible that Microsoft opens feature updates and unnecessary if Windows 10 ends 14 January 2025. Microsoft should leave Windows 10 alone the more things are rolled out the more things can break. But thanks Brian very useful i will fix this on my windows 10 computer i absolutely do not want any more feature updates on my windows 10 computer take Brian and have a lovely day.

Do we need to create these too for the QWORD (64-bit) Value?
@SirWolf2018
@SirWolf2018 3 месяца назад
DWORD should be enough. It's just a data type, the choice between DWORD or QWORD (32 or 64 bits) tells the range of the data the entry allows holding, so it does not have anything to do with your CPU's data with which is 64 bits these days.
