I’ll tell you more, instead of the advertised Photoshop, I’m using the old Jack Paint Shop Pro 7.0 released August 2000, it works 20 times faster than new versions of Photoshop and the distribution itself weighs about 100MB, basic operations with pictures and graphics were almost instantaneous even on a Pentium 3 1GHz and on Intel i7 4770k and even more so it works even on Windows 7... It’s already 24 years since everything works and you’re right, the old software was most reliable in the 1990s and early 2000s

@@AndreyZhovanic Which parts do you feel work faster in PSP that Photoshop? Certainly, anything algorithmic wont. 20-year-old software couldn't use modern SIMD, let alone high core counts, and processor groups. Probably not even NUMA aware. But, yes in general, older software was so much more efficient. The problems are terrible programming practices, such as OOP and all the BS that brings, and the use of web-tech in desktop applications.

I remember I met a random person in cafe in 1998. He was prank me that I was from future I was coming from year 2020 he was yelling me that in upcoming years you had phone full of touch screen blah blah and he says Google killed Nokia blah and I said Nokia no never Nokia is legend. Now I think he actually came from future 🙄

A few years ago, I switched on my old Windows 95 PC again after a long time. I was completely flashed by how quickly the Explorer windows opened. It seemed much faster than under Windows 10.

Personally for me: No matter if it’s a computer from the mid to late 90’s, the 2000’s, the 2010’s (except for Windows 8), and today; they all look charming to me.

These old computers still worked better than 2020s Laptops.

My family PC with Windows 98 arrived to our home back in 1998 and it came with PC Engine emulator (with dozens of games). It served us until 2005 when my brother installs XP.

@@r.a.6459 we got our first pc in 2004 with Win98SE. Doom not working, I try to change msdos soundcard configuration and luckily one day it start working. I was so happy that day. :)

That welcome sound in Windows 98 somehow is louder than Windows XP or Windows 7.

I remember i used to play reader rabbit when I was in pre k in the elementary school and I also remember the windows 98 when i was a little toddler kid

I remember seeing Reader Rabbit as a game option on the Windows 98 desktops my school had over 20 years ago, yet I do not remember playing that game myself. I never owned a real computer with that operating system, but I owned two "hand me downs" (a Packard Bell desktop my parents somewhat used then a Compaq laptop used everyday by my father), both of which ran Windows 95 from the factory. I still follow vintage trends such as this given the good and bad memories I had with it, whether it would be the Windows "Clouds" desktop background or me tinkering around with the school's computers without permission (for example). I vaguely remember what my preschool classroom's PC setup looked like when I was a student. Even in 2006 my school had a Windows 98 desktop (former teacher PC) set up for students to take reading tests, and the following school year there was one set up in the English classroom for students to play games (out of four computers; the other three were an IBM Aptiva desktop with Windows 95 and two all in one Macs from the 90's (pre iMac)).

I still have Windows 98 and reader rabbit…. I played Reader rabbit on my windows 98 since when I was little, that and Just Grandma and me as well as others. I remember playing on Just Grandma and Me in Preschool on the school’s computer running classic Macs and Windows 98.
