Note that there's no "Taskbar" on Chicago 58s! The white box after the three buttons is actually a folder for placing files and directories that you need to find quickly while you're working...

So then, is that the earliest form of the "quick launch" toolbar? 🤨 Because "quick launch" have its own folder where it displays shortcuts and files from.

4:40 thats not the close button on the left, thats the window menu, clicking will bring up a small menu. The close button was by the way introduced with 95 and NT4, no windows before had it, seems like this build of Chicago doesn't have it yet.

The first known build with the close button is build 81, from January 1994

I never actually used this, but I did read a magazine article describing it. I remember the picture of the green desktop with the UNDER CONSTRUCTION text and police barricade graphics. It was indeed the very first look at a Windows 4 alpha. They changed the name to Windows 95 very late, Spring 1995 I think. I hated the name, was expecting Windows 4.0! It was the first version available on CD-ROM, because it took over 30 HD 3½" floppies to hold the installation files! It was never sold in stores that way, but when you bought it pre-installed on a PC it allowed you to create an installation set if you wanted to (and had 33 floppy disks!) This was before product activation, all you needed was a valid serial number to install it. I did the floppy creation set at work because I wanted to install it on my home PC!

Win32c could mean win32 concept. The ability to run 32-bit apps goes back before chicago with the release of win32s, and windows 95 was the first 32-bit version of windows.

@@gemeltowers The name doesn't match the format for windows codenames. It's too short for one and nearly all of the codenames are based off locations. (Chicago for 95, Memphis for 98, Neptune was cancelled, Whistler in British Columbia for XP, Longhorn being a breed of cattle in Texas)

yeah, win32s i think means win32 subsystem but the win32c is concept for a fully 32 bit version of windows

I think that the Windows Tutorial button was actually used in a way earlier version. Look up "Windows 95 Usability Testing", where an on-screen tutorial is running.

This feels like a Windows server OS, I think this would be used quite alot if it was released in 1993 as "Windows NT 3.5" or maybe an extension pack for NT 3.1

Interestingly, Windows 95 has a option to not open multiple windows

Yeah, that was added fairly early in the development. Not sure if it's already there in this build, though. What is in this build (I think it's this one?) is the ability to open folders in different tabs instead of multiple windows. It's hidden, but it's there.

Actually no. Technically the first Windows 95 Build is Build 3.10.07200022 (Or Pre-Milestone 4), this build is basically Windows 3.11 For Workgroups with the Win95 UI, new programs, and a new 3D control style.

Sorry, the music is awful. Thanks for exploring beta windows builds and all and making videos on them, but the music really makes you want to turn the video off.

yk you can just mute it and play different music in the background? i never use my voice in the video...

Sure, it's your channel so it's your call. It's not convenient to mute only your videos since this setting extends to the whole of youtube. You don't have to voice over your videos, just have more subdued or neutral music over the video, rather than hard-hitting house at full volume, which is a bit jarring and doesn't quite fit the content of the video. That's just my opinion.
