I got fooled. I was nervous because McAffe said I was unprotected and then an hour later “this popped up.” I called the number. Pakistani or Indian man asked for my name and zip code. He then direct me to share my screen. I shared it. He took over my mouse and clicked on an unimportant file. He then proceeded to download a file from my browser and opened up helpdesk. Once he was doing this I realized it was a scam and blocked him from downloading anything further and restarted my computer and hung up. I’m just nervous that my laptop has been compromised and I just got a remote job and don’t want there to be a whole IT crisis. Can you tell me what I should do?
Bruh , I immediately shut down my internet and pc after getting locked . And nothing happen .I don't think any website can hack your computer unless you provide them with your personal data or download some stupid thing
On mine it appeared to download a device and when I restarted my computer in Safe mode and check under device and printers, something looked very different until I did a system restore and it went back to my normal list of devices and printers. Someone commented on another one of these videos that they may have gotten more sophisticated since a year ago. I hope not. I did a Malwarebytes scan and MS Malicious Tool Remover scan afterward and neither found anything but I'm still a bit nervous. Edit: I did know at least not to call the number.
I just removed the battery and charger from my laptop. I wait for a minute, then turn it back on. After it turns on, I clear browsing Data for 24 hours.
Turn off Wi-Fi and unplug any ethernet cables. If you have a local computer repair shop, my advice is to take your computer to them and ask for advice. Also, immediately call your bank and make sure your accounts are ok. Tell them you were scammed and you just wanted to ensure everything is ok with your banking. Ensure your financial accounts are solid. I am so sorry. I wish I had a quick and easy answer.
My girlfriend just downloaded this, and then they wanted her 2 download ultra viewer, and then she did, and of course she gave them the codes to view on my pc.
