In some operating systems (Such as Windows XP) there is an option to set whatever sound you want to be the startup/shutdown sound. I believe they are in some modern Windows systems too.
@@nimk you can modify the imageres.dll file to enable any startup sound you want (pre-login), but it does come at the risk of breaking your login screen so be careful with it.

Windows 10 actually has a shut down sandwiches the same as the Windows 7. Even Windows 11 has that same shutdown sound but is also having a new startup sound.

My PC runs Windows 10 and when it starts up it plays Windows Vista/7 startup sound. Same for shutdown. Maybe because it used to run on Windows 7 before.
I don’t know why, but I actually compare these startup sounds up until Whistler with the characters from Touhou Perfect Cherry Blossom. I know it’s completely random, but I do it anyway. If you actually care about this comment and don’t think this is a stupid idea, read on, as I also have reasons for some of them being where they are. Windows 3.1 (Ta-das and Chimes)- Cirno and Letty Whiterock Reason: These two are stage one bosses, and the Ta-das and chimes are very early into the evolution of Windows Startup sounds. Stage One is the easiest, and the earlier Windows OSes up to Windows 95 are primitive in nature. Windows 3.11 (Just the chimes) - Chen Stage 2 is still easy, and 3.11 isn’t that much more advanced than 3.1. Windows 95 - Alice Margatroid and Lilywhite Windows NT 4.0 - Prismriver Sisters Windows NT 5.0 (The best startup sound) - Youmu Konpaku Reason: 5.0 is the Beta version of Windows 2000. This essentially makes it “half” of Windows 2000, like how Youmu is half ghost and Yuyuko is a ghost. Windows 2000/ME - Yuyuko Saigyouji Reason: It sounds elegant enough, I guess... Plus, Windows 5.0 was made into Windows 2000, and Youmu is Yuyuko’s servant (after all, the Final Product obviously has to be better than it’s Beta counterpart). Windows NT 5.0 European (Apparently Unofficial) - Used exclusively for Yuyuko’s “Resurrection Butterfly” spell. Reason: It’s a variant on the Windows 2000 startup sound, and Yuyuko’s final spell theme is a variant of her regular theme. Windows 98 - Ran Yakumo Windows Whistler (I know the sounds are fake) - Yukari Yakumo Reason: It sounds creepy, like Yukari herself. Again, I know it’s a stupid idea, but I do actually do this.
Mistakes: NT 5.0 uses 4.0 shutdown. EUR edition is unofficial, it uses 2000 beta 3 last builds sounds. Millenium (ME beta) used 98 sounds. Whistler uses 2000 sounds. Server 2003 uses XP sounds in all countries. Longhorn uses XP sounds. I tried many builds, thanks WinWorldPC.

That's funny, my server runs Windows 10 professional and when it does its daily restart I sometimes hear the Windows 7 start up sound. It's like the ghost of Windows 7 is coming back to scare me.

NT 5.0 EUR and Server 2003 UK - full fake Whistler and Longhorn - fake startup and shutdown. The real one is sounds from 2000 and XP. Windows 8 also has no startup and shutdown sounds... Only Windows 7 startup sound, which can be enabled by user and disabled by default. Also in Windows 10.

windows nt 4 and nt 5.0 beta 1 bootscreens are wrong they have blue screens giving info about the and windows 8-10 have the windows 7 startup sound and no shutdown sound
