I'm literally so jealous of the amount of tech treasures you've built up over the years running this channel. Most notably the computers, but also the unique college editiions of windows install discs, etc, all the unique and hard to find items with interesting stories behind them. One of these days you're going to have to open a computer museum and start getting some revenue back from all this stuff. Edit: That alienware laptop is pretty much orgasmic. I fell in love with it the second I saw it.

Msdn library on disc! Brings back memories. I had visual studio as a student programmer in high school and would get Msdn disks every other month. It would update all the documentation as well as like the live syntax tool tips. It was super useful. Now it's just all internet based!

Got XP Pro x64 shortly after it launched. Took a few months for the HW companies to get stable drivers together, then there was issues with some programs refusing to install because it could not make heads or tales of the version string it read. I had a early 64 bit cpu and 8gb of ram and damn it I was going to use it all... Dual booted the machine for a while then eventually x64 just became a reminder to pick and choose better what to be an early adopter of.

I bet this would be pretty funny to some of you. Most of you vintage computer collectors go for some pretty exotic retro computers. I however found something really unusual in a goodwill recently for just $39.99, and it works perfectly. It has a Lenovo ThinkCentre 7479A31 PC with 4 GB of ram, onboard ethernet, audio, VGA and display-port, 12 or 13 USB ports on the back (plus one on the front), 5 different card slots, e-sata CD-DVD rewritable rom drive, intel core 2 duo cpu's (with vPro written on the sticker), and a touch-screen HDMI lcd. Take a guess what kind of computer it is. Hint: the PC is inside of the unit.

I used (and still do but to a much lesser extent) Windows XP Professional x64 Edition for hosting old computer games servers. Still running are servers for Jedi Knight II but I am finally retiring it from service after 12 years. Long live XP.

3:03 now why is that? Is it because the computers would freeze when it turned the year 2000 or would it just set the date back to 1900? Why did they want us to turn our computers off? Does that mean to set it up to the year 2000 once again? What difference would it make if you couldn't correct it?

It was a persistent myth at the time that even Y2K ready computers needed to be turned off for the actual switchover date to prevent damage. Some people even refused to plug their computers into power until after midnight. It wasn’t really necessary though. I suppose for some mission-critical systems it might delay a bug from midnight to 8am but I don’t think any of them actually did it? There were just enough wild theories about the power grid failing and so forth, that some people thought it was better safe than sorry to protect your hardware just in case… but really you’d have been just fine leaving your computer on if it was recent enough to actually be useful. If you didn’t get the Y2K patch for Windows 95 you might get some errors but nothing permanently damaging, but everything afterwards was already compatible, as were the competition (sometimes for even longer). But lots of people didn’t even really analyse what “Y2K compatible” really meant so you got companies selling totally non-tech things as “Y2K compatible” like, for instance, desk organisers and stuff. And TV ads jumped on the bandwagon for calling their non-tech product Y2K ready, etc. So a lot of people didn’t know enough to analyse any of the advice and turned off their entire house just in case (no TV, or lights, or anything).

Please make a video about it, I used to have a copy when I was a programming student(or the other 64-bit XP, not sure which) but I think the license expired when I graduated and in either case, I lost the ISOs.(it was part of my MSDNAA subscription)

If I recall correctly, 64-Bit Edition is for Intel Itanium, which was Intel's failed attempt at a 64-bit version of x86, before they got the license to use AMD64, which is what x64 edition is for.

Go on eBay find an oem version for pennies then download the files to rebrand it to match whatever machine you have. You can use SLP branding tools to tattoo your bios if you have a self build.

@@smd89xx Well, Windows XP could run just fine on computers released in like 2010 or 2011. I'm pretty sure the same holds true for the 64-bit edition. So there should be plenty of regular older hardware that you can test it on.

@@sem5263 finding drivers for newer hardware becomes an issue for XP Pro x64. Some time you need to remove OS checks from the installer because the programmer never included x64 in the compatibility list so it just says unsupported os or similar even if it is XP era software.

XP Pro 64bit is the only release of XP that was x64. "x64 edition" is just what windows XP refers to as XP Pro x64

25:05 maybe this cd can fix my problem with Windows 98 and Oracle Virtual Box . If you use this combination you have a problem to start programs. You get yellow Messages like @d.dll can't load or @REGVALUE.DLL can't find or so. If i start 2k update with Microsoft Virtual Machine the error get away temporarly . I have to reuse it if error comes again. One version of it make it away permamently but i need to install other update things before . Its part of Internet Explorer too. (You see it in ie5 / 6 and 4 setup) maybe if i find the rigth updates the rigth version it works smooth?

(10:14) Oh wow, that editing… (11:56) AFAIK, the tool disks for Iomega and SyQuest drives of the time came in the boxes, but from some other comment (probably on LGR's Zip100 video), someone mentioned that some people would erase it and use it as a free disk. (14:56) I think that's because Microsoft made an English registration card for many regions, and did so in different languages, hence the requirement for someone to provide a stamp (likely a 1st Local stamp for registrations in Singapore) and manually write their address (Microsoft Singapore… Suntec Tower… etc), whereas with the Windows 95 registration card, it was separate cards for different regions, so the one you held was one for North America, and I've never seen what the registration card for Singapore from the time was like. (22:12) It did! 3 setup discs to boot the installer, then it asks for the CD! I have an NT 4 CD, but none of the setup diskettes that I'd need to launch the setup on my ThinkPad 760ED once I get it back up and running! I'd likely just download the contents of the diskettes myself. (33:37) "TrackPoint" is the IBM/Lenovo brand name, and "AccuPoint" was the Toshiba brand name. I usually refer to them as eraser heads. As far as I know, I think the Toshiba laptop contains a rechargeable back-up battery that could leak.

it depends,that OS was based on Windows 2003 codebase and have preview for users(I searched about the OS's news before its release date),and it works fine on my side when I was found XPx64 exists accidently then I installed it as soon as possible

My system is not powerful so I replaced XPx86 with freshly installed XPx64(multi-boot with win7x64) and using it for playing modded minecraft for more RAM available allocation

@@namesurname4666 Sort of. Vista is much slower on the same hardware. And there are little annoyances here and there. But you can get an XP-classic interface on the server editions up at least through 2008R2. (Dunno about later, haven't looked.)

I have the same first gen m11x. It has some pretty funky drivers for the switchable graphics. I was never able to get them to work past Windows 7. You can install Windows 10 on it, but you can only run it with integrated graphics. That said, I could get 15+ hours on the battery when running on the integrated graphics. Great little laptop when I used it. Now it sits on a shelf.

Yea, I had that issue as well, going into device manager to enable one and disable another.

Huh, I'd completely forgotten about windows xp 64 bit edition. Had to google to verify it was the one I'm thinking of. But that'll be a challenge to get running unless you have an itanic workstation hiding there somewhere 😂 ...says the person with an obsolete itanic server under my desk in the obscure hardware collection. Not much use for xp since it's video output is not really intended for anything other than the uefi console.

Great review! When you got to the AOL free trial cd's I started laughing as I used to go to 7-Eleven and get some to make mobiles to keep birds from nesting inside of my roof. Keep it real.

I had the x64 ultimate edition running on a dual core celeron back in the day. Was a nightmare with software compatibility a minute but was fantastic.
