Have a crack or leak in your Windshield washer tank? Then watch how to replace the reservoir tank with a new one and also change your tank pumps as well. You only need to replace your current pumps if they are damaged. Also remember to check all your hoses and washer fluid lines. Hope this video saves you some money and helps you out in the process!
You can find a replacement tank here: amzn.to/4183js0

Thanks for this very helpful, professionally produced video. My 03 GMC Sierra Denali's washer system sprang and leak and I lost all the fluid. Today I used your instructions to remove the tank and find the problem. The black plastic lower pump housing was cracked and leaking badly. It literally fell apart when I removed it. Thankfully, this being a truck I only have the one pump! I thought about doing a bush repair using J-B Weld epoxy, but my more prudent side decided to go get a new one from my local auto parts store. Yes, at $25 I paid more than I would on the internet, but I needed my battery-less truck back on the road NOW! I used black POR-15 (paint over rust) paint to refinish the battery tray. This stuff is great. All went well, I refilled the tank and I'm back in business. One tip, you can replace the black plastic fasteners that hold the wheel well liners with the reusable ones they sell at most auto parts stores. The have a Phillips head screw in the center that allow you to release them easily without damage.

THANKS FOR THE HELP! Turns out CHECKING WATER LINES FIRST is a GOOD IDEA!!! Once I got the reservoir out. The water line was broken half way up the side of the reservoir. Now I have a spare reservoir and pump.

Good job. Just replaced my front pump and took out the whole assembly on my 2003 Suburban. Same as your Tahoe other than that 5th battery bolt that attached to the reservoir. Suburban don’t have that. Just the 4 on the bottom and 2 rear ones. How many miles on yours? Great video

Thanks for the great step-by-step instructions. The only comment I would make is that I found it much easier to access and replace the reservoir if I removed the front left tire. That allowed me to access the fender lining much more easily and allowed it to move out of the way more.

Thanks for the video! One note, I actually found it a lot easier to remove the plastic plugs in the wheel well with the wheel to the right but THEN turn the wheel the other way before removing the battery and reservoir. Doing that I didn't need to jack it up it to get more room in the wheel well and it was a lot easier to get at the bolts, etc.

Great video!!! Word of advise... Might be a good idea to take the old one out and determine what is leaking... Turns out our tank was good, but the rear pump cracked and was the cause of the leak and a replacement tank will not fix this. You have several points of failure (tank, hoses, two different pumps and a level sensor) Lucky for us we bought the complete unit that came with a new tank, both pumps and the sensor. Hope this helps!!!

Had a hairline crack in the bottom, but also had a corroded and brittle fluid line too. So the battery being over the tank and lines is bad design. Just always need to make sure to spray water and clean out that area if you are having battery issues. Glad I could help!

Glad it helped you! Hopefully you just need to replace the rear wiper motor or the control board. It is one of those two issues. There is a problem with a short in the connection like you said, but I am not sure about the solution for it since I have not had that problem. I would try to replace your motor first if it sounds like it is not even working.

TheRykerDane So, I got it looked at. Turns out, there is some grommet that connects the reservoir to the pump (???), that's where its leaking from. The mechanic says, its a lot of work to fix that. He suggested to get it done if something else needs repair under the hood. Otherwise it may not be worth the effort and money. Do you agree?

Man, you are a life saver! We've had this going on for about 3 years, and my parents were worried that we'd have to take it in. We might buy two tanks and have one for a spare seeing the tray mount to the reservoir too. Have you done others like this? where was yours cracked? I'm assuming ours is at the very bottom because we can't have ANY fluid in ours.

Ryker - dude you have some serious wear on those tires. ;) I would like to 1st thank you for the alternator video you did, it helped me change mine, I think the main cause of the failure of those tanks is the proximatry to the battery - the rust you saw is the battery acid dribbling out which also causes the plastic to fail - happened to me too

GREAT video as my wife's Tahoe will not hold any washer fluid. I'm not yet sure what is leaking on it. I assume it's the tank itself. I also noticed the the little black hard plastic tubing that runs up along the hood is cracked and leaking in several places (not just one). Can this tubing be bought? Any recommendations on where to buy that little black plastic tubing or where to buy some other rubber tubing that might work would be appreciated. Once again, OUTSTANDING video. One of the best how to's I've watched!!!
@TheRykerDane
@TheRykerDane 9 лет назад
ag12thman Thank you very much, I am glad I could help. The tubing that comes from the factory is a very thin hard plastic that is already pre molded and bent, so if you replace them it will be expensive and the whole line has to be replaced. The easiest thing to do is buy just regular black rubber tubing like for a water line, and install those, in the sections that are leaking. Use zip ties or better yet a hose clamp. Hope that helps.

Rob B oh sorry, if you are talking about bolts on the battery tray, they can be really hard to get out. Use PB blaster, or just drill them out. Hopefully its only one that is giving you trouble. You don't really need all those bolts to hold that tray in. Also you could use a dremel tool or something to cut the bolt head off too. good luck!
