Windy Day At Presque Isle! - Weekends With Wallie & Kayla Ep. 63 - 8/2/2020. Join me on a little adventure around Presque Isle State Park in Erie, PA as we check out the rough surf from the high winds. There is a lot of beach erosion. The waves that battered dunes around the park were nice for surfers, though!

Born and raised here. Spent much time with family and friends at these beaches, especially while in high school. My favorite hobby was searching for beach glass, skipping stones, and cruising the Penninsula (then cruising the Dock). The best time was the ‘Good-Bye to the PI’ party on its last night before demolition (Peninsula Inn formerly Sara Coyne). Condos were erected in that location. Which beach were you on? Beaches 6 and 12 were popular many moons ago. Erosion has been a major issue for decades.

The sky looks cool. I went to Indiana dunes one time on Lake Michigan and there were gale warnings and waves were 8 feet high, it was very cool. It looked like the ocean.

Those are some decent storm clouds. Storms can come up out of nowhere too. A butterfly farts & the weather can change. We live just over the state line in New York & can see Lake Erie when driving on Route 5.

Wallie, did you consider visiting Waldameer at all? You COULD go in free before the pandemic, but they want to keep visitors at a lower level. Parking is free though!

Are the dunes protecting the lighthouse area natural or planted, like on the Outer Banks? The sea oats sowed to protect the dunes in North Carolina date from FDR's Civililian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.

If I remember correctly they were built for the most part. Some are natural from the direction the wind blows off the lake.
