This area of Wellington is know as the wind corridor, the prevailing winds, the topography and the layout of the tall buildings all contribute to the channeling of the Northerly winds. Other areas of the city will be less affected by the winds. However Wellington is still a very windy city most of the time
Hello. My name is Su-jung Kim, producing a TV program in Tokyo. We're looking for video of Wellington in New Zealand to introduce the city on TV. Because the person we interviewed was from this city. We found the video on your site, and we would like you to allow us to use it in our TV program. I have attached a photo, so could you check it? I'll be waiting for your reply.
No surprise at all if you're a Wellingtonian. Wellington New Zealand is famous for being the windiest city in NZ. Auckland would be the second windiest city in NZ, with its numerous fresh south westerly winds.
Wellington generally gets colder temperatures than even Christchurch, Queenstown, Auckland, Hastings and Tauranga. I know as I was brought up and live there.
As people who like weather know Wind is just air moving from High to Low Pressure and the quicker it moves from two different places means the pressure gradient (difference between the two) will be much larger and a larger pressure gradient equals very strong winds. Winds are always much stronger when the air travels over a long distance when going from High to Low Pressure.
