I absolutely agree with you that we need to educate about sustainability better and need to be much kinder to people rather than shame them! I downloaded the new issue, it's awesome, you did such a great job on it! I am definitely going to knit myself some mittens at some point :) (once I finish all my other WIPs).
ok this might be a weird comment but i just found your account and my first thought was wow i wish she lived in nyc she would fit into our friend group so well
Sustainability is a huge part of my passion for fiber arts! Thanks for talking about it and for the book rec. Have you read Fashionopolis by Dana Thomas?
leena norms makes videos about the climate crisis and her own journey into making her own clothes by sewing and knitting :) she is doing a year where she doesn't buy anything new or thrifted so if she wants something she will make it!
100000% yes ! Thank you for discussing the lack of nuance, lack of empathy, classist assumptions, and blatant ignorance that can come up when sustainability is mentioned Making even slightly better choices is a win💜 and those decisions usually build/snowball over time anyways, making progress towards better and better choices if/when we can everyday 💜 “Slow” describes my fashion choices now (yay!) and it also describes the timeline/thought process it’s taken me to get here:) Deprogramming, seeking out education, and understanding what new choices I should make takes tiiiiime and it never ends lol I will definitely be picking up that book🩷 and if you want another wonderful read discussing sustainability and our relationship with the environment (and also some incredible Native American history and anecdotes that were never taught in school), you should check out Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer It’s one of my favorite books of all time now, I cannot recommend it enough🩷
