How did you determine to check capacitors? Did you check all the components, resistors, caps, diodes, etc, and come up with the caps by process of elimination?
Let's just say that decision was an educated guess. 1). Resistors, diodes and transistors often (but not always) show visible signs of stress when they fail. 2). Capacitors are more likely to fail than those other components. 3). This circuit contained Chinese made capacitors. It is well known that Chinese made capacitors, especially from the time frame when this fridge was made, are prone to pre-mature failure. Search "Capacitor Plague" to learn more.
