Once you have experienced a "corked" bottle that never leaves you. For me, the smell comes right off the top of the bottle and is attached to the cork. Quite unforgettable. It is an unpleasant disappointment that can only be chased away by a proper glass of wine.
Been watching your videos and I gotta say that I love them . Very informative. I have to ask, is it easy to detect off flavors in wine? I know my beer and can detect off flavors pretty easily. But I have more experience with beer than with wine.
I have left a bottle of wine which had been corked overnight in a decanter and then used it for cooking, without any noticable detriment to the food, the wine appears to "soften off" overnight. Some purists might disagree with not using a bottle of say burgundy in beouf bourguignon
It’s a good thing that TBA cork taint in a wine is rare. The TBA acronym is already spoken for in the wine world and the spelled out version is too long to refer to easily.
Had a bottle of CDP once that tasted fine but smelled like literal dog poop. It was a bottle from the early 2000s so no way to take it back to the retailer but that's the first time I was sure the wine was corked.
Have you experienced this? Coravin Question: Has anyone ever checked a wine for flaws with coravin before presenting to a customer and the wine shows well, only to show very obvious TCA once the cork is pulled? for example, the other night i tasted a high end Aussie Cabernet via Coravin and it was everything i expected. clean and correct. the next morning i double decanted the wine before presenting to a client and upon tasting, it was clearly corked. Was my palate messed up or does exposing a wine to oxygen bring out TCA flaws in a big way? i'm fairly sensitive to TCA and often find it when others don't. curious to hear your feedback.
This is an interesting scenario. I don't have enough experience with Coravin to have come across something like this. I suggest checking online forums devoted to wine or wine related reddits and such. I'll try to do some poking around myself. Let me know if you find anything. Cheers!
Wet dog for me is not the smell of a dog being walked in the rain. Try the smell of a dog coming out of a pond or lake when it is extremely hot and humid. 😊 maybe it has something to do with bacteria or fungi in that eco system that does it but that is my impression of the wet dog smell as I have experienced both.
