Because it had happened the same day/time as the Andover tornado, plus the incredible recorded video of the "Overpass Tornado"... THIS tornado just outside of Winfield got ZERO press.
This tornado destroyed our house! I didn't know there was footage. I still have the news papers from Winfield and Ark City where they each covered this.
Wow, thanks for this video. This passed so close to us it was difficult to see the edges of it. My folks live off Route 5 se of Winfield & this was a terrifying storm. So thankful more people weren’t killed in this storm.

Incredible; thanks Va for stockpiling all the footage.
This tornado destroyed my parents' house 4 miles east of Winfield on highway 160. It continued on towards the Country View School area where it killed a woman in mobile home just south of the school.
You could be right because there was talk that this should've been rated an F-5 due to a house being swept away that one would've never known it ever existed there. It is believed the NWS survey team missed the house. I'm reading fom a report by Tom Grazulis, head of the Tornado Project who talked to several chasers. They were chasing this thing. I've talked to Tom too, cool guy.
I think you have that mixed up with the Kellerville, Texas F4 on June 8th, 1995 from Project VORTEX. That one was produced from the supercell that produced the Allison F4.
@@mattkowal90 Allan Gwyn recently uploaded a newer angle of the 06-08-95 Kellerville tornado. Probably the best angle and clearest shot of the tornado. It was in its stovepipe form and it had some serious rotation on it. I believe it should've been upgraded to an F5.
There are two more angles in Tornado Video Classics (II?), one showing it wedging out with a spectacular ragged wall cloud. The other shows it as a wedge chasing away cows.
@@simonandersen7135 That latter would be something to see. Someone's future Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese being chased out in their pasture by a spinner! Thats classic.
There is official footage of this from the civil defense at the operation center. It shows a much different angle with 2 twisters on one side and 1 twister on the other side.
That may not be the Andover tornado but it has "killer" written all over it. Not all these giant wedges are F5s (or EF5s) but they're more than powerful enough to kill you if you don't take them deadly serious.
I was 7-8 yrs old when this happened I live in AC personally I don’t recall this cause it’s been so long ago when I was a kid plus we’ve had so many come through hard to keep track
Yeah, probably had this tornado and the Red Rock tornado had hit a populated area it probably would have been of at least similar violence to the Andover tornado.
It looks just like the Andover F5 from that day. Hard to tell if it was of similar violence to the Andover tornado as I believe this tornado was rated an F4.
I remember we got caught in a hailstorm on the East side of Winfield that day. The insurance check for the damage to my car paid for my new Central Heat and Air system.
It's sad enough the Wichita-Andover tornado caused fatalities, but unfortunately this tornado caused 1 death and 3 others were killed by other twisters in the outbreak.
