There is always something to learn from someone to improve my Wing Chun. I am open to every one's feedback and don't see the need to argue with them...just absorb. We don't have to agree, we just have to train!

lol.first i never had a pissing match in my life sounds disgusting and if the flaws are not corrected they are far from redundant they are flaws all systems have them and should work to correct them wing chun is no different its not special it is a martial art made by man with all of man's imperfections so unless you can prove wing chun is a perfect system when learned the conversations would just go in circles,and if you didn't know i've practiced wing chum for many many moons competed with it so that allows me room to speak on its flaws

Everything has holes in it. Even special forces guys zig when they should of zagged and get hit with bullets from local goat farmers. To think there is one complete style is just silly. When it comes to trading hands Boxing in the king. in close footwork, again boxing is really good. Take Renzo Gracie and put him in a boxing match with a 19 year old amateur boxer and he would have his hands full. Put Mayweather in a BJJ match and white belt would have a chance in beating him. Combat is mastered in the mind and breaking you opponents rhythm is the key to landing shots. look at Junior Dos Santos and Nick Diaz. They are total packages BJJ and very good Boxers. Lyte Burly's method is once again different then my local boxing club. The key is not laying on the sofa. Once you get good at being lazy good luck breaking that rhythm!!! Train and have fun never stop learning!!!

What a shit that i read here !!! IT`S THE FIGHTER, NOT THE STYLE ! A boxer can sucks, a TKD fighter can sucks, a mma fighter can sucks a.s.o. Not the style is dangerous, it`s the human ! If you understood the principles of what you are doing than it depends on you HOW GOOD you can realise that in the practice ! It`s doesnt matter if you have knowledge in ground attack, grappling, kicking, punching. If your opponent feel confident in what he are doing he can knock you out in a second. One punch, with 20-30% power in the right body part (vital point) and it`s over. And you have trained 30 years ! Remember, respect your opponent, not the style !

"IT`S THE FIGHTER, NOT THE STYLE". I can see why people believed that prior to UFC/Vale Tudo, but its been obvious for over 20 years that there are better systems. The best skill sets for sport fighting in a cage aren't necessarily the same best skill sets required for street combatives but I don't care how much of a hardass you are or how dedicated your training regimen, being a master of an ornamental martial art is not going to help you out against someone who practices the basics against a resisting opponent.

Yeah, that's how some people learn. They won't learn it any other way... Especially as they get older and more experienced... they start believing in their own greatness... and that's when they stop learning. Hence, that's why Bruce Lee always consider himself a student/teacher. Always a student although he is a teacher. Bruce Lee is truly inspirational.

+Andrew Boreliz Respect. To walk away from unnecessary fight/conflict is a wisdom, not cowardice. At the end our worst enemy is our own ego, pride and fear. (Of course, necessary fight is different, e.g. saving your love one) In Traditional Chinese, Martial Arts is written as 武術. The main word 武(Roughly translated as Martial), is combination of 止(Stop) and 戈(War/Fight/Conflict/Weapon). This, is also the main concept of Sun Tzu (孫子), Arts of War. A military strategy books written in ancient China and have the honour of being studied in West Point military school, etc and applied in business... (Fun Fact: Bruce Lee "Be Water" speech is combination of Sun Tzu, while his "abandon form" theory mainly comes from Lao Tzu老子 (Dao De Ching 道德經)

I know this guy isn't a fan of Master Bruce Lee, but look what is happening. He is going through the same process as Master Lee. Bruce used Wing Chun as his core then built upon it. The whole heel up to improve speed/power and hip use in the punch was an immediate improvement he incorporated into his punching. He also learned it takes a lot longer then a few seconds to take someone out, especially if you are using Wing Chun's traditional punches. Those punches just don't have the hip and ground up power you find in boxing.

“The issue I had with him was definitely the movement…” “…. It’s not that I can get inside, it’s that when I got inside he’s not here anymore.” The same basic lesson Bruce Lee learned about Wing Chun during his 1964 fight with Wong, Jack Man. This is what motivated him to experiment with what would become Jeet Kune Do.

this advice is what they world of real FIGHTERS has been trying to tell WC men for decades...they dont listen and they dont need to change because they never fight or even spar hard..if they did theyd have evolved just like this man did...we all end up fighting the same at toplevel...while learning we try all sorts of stupid techniques...theres a reason why in MMA they all fight the same, they allstrike just like this striker...western boxing punches, hard shin kicks , thai sttles knees, bjjor wrestling..Izzo can grapple...its sounds like he needs to spar hard & long stand up & hel use what we all use and dump the WC garbage

Winchun masters that actually learned from Yipman like Chris Chan would show you and he's 70 years old this man and Bruce Lee opened up a school in San Francisco and accepted any challenges from different martial arts practicioners gladly. I also know that you can't master Wing Chun in 2 to 5 years of practice a great learner would take 7 to 8 years. I want this against Chris Chans line age please upload a video.

JKD is less reliant on blocks and more reliant on lead hand and lead leg strikes. It's more about interception by attack than defense by block. Granted, JKD also relies on boxing style movements, similar to 52 Blocks, but strategy-wise, it has more in common with Savate and fencing, where 52 blocks has more in common with western boxing and hand techniques of Silat.

I respect both arts. Just wondering if any kicks were used? A sik mah (Eat Horse) will demobilize his footwork, so you don't have to chase too much. Kicks has more reach. I was taught to side step and find a new center line (Which he explained is 3 dimensional) This is just from my observation. I like how illusive 52 block is. There's a lot of deceptive movements that doesn't telegraph attacks.

Footwork is the single most important aspect of any martial art. If you are at a serious footwork disadvantage you have traveled far down the road of defeat. This, however, was a great video and it's inspiring to see martial artists from different styles helping each other improve. The days of style vs. style need to end.

I battle with that all the time. I think it is simply age and where I am in life. I want to fight...badly. But then that is competing. My TRUE Wing Chun you can't see online. It is Hell, Violence and Ruthless Destruction Personified...and I pray every day that it never sees the light of day. Anything less than that risks a "loss" in competition. I know, I know, that sounds like an excuse.

If you look at the JKD vs Wing Chun video I did, you may find an answer to your question. The JKD community still cannot answer what JKD is...is it a concept? Is it a system? But if its a concept, then your statement is correct. Picking up a brick and throwing it at someone's head is also jkd then...but that concept came from Wing Chun first. End the fight any way you can.

Lyte Burly just explained the same way Bruce Lee explained Jeet kune do.52 Blocks is Jeet kune do without kicks. After years of deliberation, I have boiled martial arts down to what I believe to be the most succinct definition possible: to attack your opponents' most readily available target of opportunity with the most powerful attack you have at your disposal. Combat is fluid, and of all the skills a warrior could possibly possess, adaptability is the most important one. No one style always trumps another, etc., because every situation is different. The only thing anyone can really do is be continually committed to learning and training, ( like this guy seems to be ) and if a situation ever actually arises where you need to defend yourself, you might actually be able to.

I agree with adaptability. I would also ad however that a dog only has one weapon and it works. Mike Tyson can't beat everybody but he can definitely rely on his weapon. Have many tools yes , but be sure one of your tools is a weapon. That's Solid Self Defense.

***** lol a guitar is very complicated to learn my friend. If wing chin is complicated to learn then it won't be effected when ANS takes over autonomic nervous system . Your heart will beat at 175 beats per minute and your fine motor skills are out the window. You wouldn't be able to tie your shoe laces are put a key in a key hole. Not like a comfortable setting with friendly scenarios as seen here. Battle tested is extremely important when choosing a combat method. I won't use the word fight because if you look the word fight in the dictionary it means to struggle with some one or something.

***** I am familiar with wing chun I studied the lineage of Grandmaster William chun . I have studied Thirteen disciplines and own a boxing gym where I allow all types of sparring matches to take place. The arts with complexed moves do very poor against brutal sports. Jkd guys do terrible against experienced muay thai guy. Wing chun guys have done poor against experienced boxers. Take kwon do guys have done terrible against my boxers. There were somethings in wing chun that helped me with boxing. But without brutal training at some point in your life its all just moves. Grant it if you stay brutal for too long you can become punch drunk or worst. But I recommend to at least train that way for a couple of years minimum.

As a karate man, i learned from training with a kajukenbo master that my way is not the only way. I gotta say i've got loads of respect for Sifu Izzo for one simple reason: he's not afraid to address and analyze his weaknesses. If you can only see and talk about your strengths, you're still a narrow-minded beginner, regardless how long you've been training. This gentleman has reached the point where he asks questions that challenge one's ego and pre-conceived notions. Would that we all had this mindset. Again, much respect from a karate man.

so the moral of the story is...move light on your feet like a boxer, punch with bodyweight like a boxer...keep hands up like a boxer...which of course begs the question...why even do WC IN THE FIRST PLACE...why not just do a style of martial art that doesnt have to be changed in order to make it work...if any man adds boxing to Aikido ...hes then ..mixing martial arts up...or has then become an "MMA" man...if a WC dumps his chain puches & uses hooks,uppercuts & boxing footwork....hes then become an MMA man...nothing wrong with that..but why not just train & use the style that works in the first ...we fight the way we train..
@IzzoWingChun
@IzzoWingChun 10 лет назад
I think you missed the moral of the story. It is make the fight yours and not have the style make you. I have not changed my footwork, my movement, etc. Lyte is the absolute best at what he does...I cant move like him or fight like him. But I am the absolute best at what I do. I am me.

Izzo Tactical Combat Martial Arts yes your correct...YOU havent changed your footwork...but we arnt watching your striking because WC striking is rubbish...we are watching his...and the reason he beats you and other WC men easily is because ALL decent boxers will...All boxers are hard skilled men and are great st fighters, in every town for years modt the the hardest best street fighters around were boxers..now MMA men are generally the hardest in the street. In WCs biggest ever tournament in history,...the Ip man cup...every single WC man in it uses western boxing..not chain punches and trapping...in San shou, they are allowed to use chain punches and trapping..not 1 fighter does,the all use western boxing...in mma..they are allowed to use chain punches and trapping...non do ,they all use western boxing,wrestling, bjj,muaythai...Lyte would get flattened quickly off any decent MMA man or decent boxer,Lyte in the world of full contact is nothing...he looks impressive because he hangs in the world of WC men... its like an Australian crawl stroke swimmer...mixing with doggy paddlers..of course they are gonna think"wow"..this guy is good...if you had sparred any decent mma man or decent muaythai man...youd say the same...but you havent...your a good wrestler, be proud of that...that alone will beat 99% of all WC men...
@dirkdeadly6893
@dirkdeadly6893 10 лет назад
Izzo Tactical Combat Martial Arts there isnt even such a range as "trapping range"...its an artificial range named that by styles like WC that trap...all styles fight at your "trapping" range..they just dont trap...a boxer just punches at trapping range,a muaythai man might elbow or lead in clinch, a wrestler might slap & grab or shrug...in kali /eskrima..trapping sticks has a relevance...but still isnt used much..(I had 2 kali fights )..in empty handed..there are much superior techniques to use...and all fighters everywhere use other techniques...

Ah the delusional Wing Chun man is starting to get a grip on reality, ego defenses are still there though he hasn't accepted reality just yet. Well props to him for at least being honest and testing wing chun against an effective art. Theres a reason Bruce Lee dropped wing chun in favor of western boxing, and Bruce Lee knows better than this man he was alot smarter, and theres no slate on this guy hes bright, but Bruce Lee was exceptionally bright and well WELL ahead of his time (still is ahead of everyone today) Its the delusion that gets me how these traditional martial artists believe so strongly without much rational thought/testing. A bit like religion really. Well at least this guy is testing and he is getting a nice does of reality and truth. He should go up against an MMA fighter next a real fight and a special rule set, ie minimal rules. Like when a bigger fighter fights a smaller fighter they strike a compromise they fight at a catchweight. Well MMA already has very few rules so if he had a private MMA bout with even less rules that they both agreed on, and they went full blast. Then I think he will get an even bigger dose of reality. .

I don't really believe so much of that crap about any style being better then other. Its more about who trains what. I can't really see someone stepping back after a blocked hook that quickly if both fighters are about the same height. Also if someone is fast enough WC won't work as any other style and nor will any footwork help you. Since you won't be able to keep up with the guy. Its about who uses what and how he uses it. UFC is a great example where we have tons of fighting styles in diffrent weights and the top 1's change over time. People like anderson silva who stay undefeated are just BEASTS. Bruce Lee is another type of BEAST. If someone thinks they can be bruce lee even if they had exactly the same type of tranning they need to throw themselves from bridge. Personally I like all the styles, mainly boxing but that dosen't mean I think some WC or muay thai is not as good enough. And to your knowledge Bruce Lee never dropped wing chun. More like the teacher IP dropped on him. Since he trained with him for not so long as he didin't like Bruce due to his personality and he wasn't fully chinese. If you read some documentaries you will find out he only told Bruce the basics and later on he came back to him in order to learn more but IP refused. Even then Bruce kept on using Wing Chun in hand combat. You may not see it due to the fact he used a lot of kicks as well but in short distance he always refered to WC. Theres a lot of video prove for it.

I don't understand. what burly is saying is absolutely true, you have more power from including your body into a punch and the hip thing etc. but wing chun actually has exceletn footwork that people either don't teach, practice or do!!??? you do punch with turning your entire body and stance, you do have sidesteps, circular steps, you do need to have a great instep and you use that step in to put your bodyweight behing your fist, you also must have good footwork in order to go around someone and do all those things burly is talking about. why isn't anyone doing it? is it just my school or what? why are we practicin the steps, the moving around a person, all that footwork? so someone could say "oh you WC people just come in a straight line"? burly's actually saying everything we already have incorporated into WC, so the problem is not it's a weakness, the problem is people don't use what they have at their disposal. also, you're NOT gonna deliver a powerfull left hook if you have someone 10 inches from your face bashing it in.
