Funny enough, I experimented doing the exact same thing a few days ago. After reading an article on how the wing blade is just like an aircraft's wing and makes a low-pressure area to lift, Ihad thought how can it work like that. An aircraft's wing is edge onto the direction of travel and the wing blade isn't . I didn't notice more speed, but definitely noticed it was easier.
More power to you. Winged blades are used by racers for a reason. More power per effort. But HALF the energy? You have some serious technique work to do. Again, which is fine. But don’t imagine GP is twice as efficient, all things being held constant. It simply is not. Physics. Many people avoid the pressure of the water and the GP allows them to do it. If you confront the pressure you’ll learn to paddle more efficiently with a winged paddle. But again, if you’re happy, stick with it. Just don’t be deluded. That’s not good for anyone, especially here on YT.
