Could you give your opinion of Pluses and Minuses wing boarding vs kiteboarding? I can see only + that no bar and no lines. But it looks like kite can generate way more energy when it moved from one side of the wind window to another, while wing has no such option. Thanks.

As an experienced kitesurfer - for wing foil I found the learning the board /foil is hardest part / also tended to count on the wing too much to hold me up , leaning back to far for a beginner > treating the sail like I would kitesurfing or windsurfing so the wing foil stance is more upright. It took 5 days with 2h session per day with instructor and the right beginner equipment 120l board and good wind.... by the end of 2 days I was planing on foil average 5 to 10 seconds with limited control , by the end of 5 th day I was doing complete tack on foil at will in control for over 2 minutes without touchdown and ready to learn jibe turn. The first 3 lessons were critical as there are lots of tricks to getting up on the board, foot position and then getting on the foil after that it is just more practice and time on foil. For people without water background they could probably arrive at that level in the same time maybe extra 2 lessons if they were struggling.... Its not exceptionally hard but very frustrating in the beginning as minor mistakes will catapult you and the sail the little tips from the lesson made a huge difference - the foil is way more sensitive to weight and position than kiteboard or surfboard.

Nope. There is no resistance from the water once you are on the foil. The wind holds your wing and arms up in the air. Even in very over-powered situations the wing can be "turned off" by letting it flag. It's never more than a small pull on your arm unloaded, and when you are going upwind in a stiff breeze it's still easy on the finger joints. Magical, really.

I had exactly this dilemma and am going for wingsurfing because you can safely do it alone while kiting must be done in a lesson format at first and afterwards mostly it's nice to have someone to help you get started/finish unless you can find a anchor to attach to.

My guess is that the wing isnt powerfull enough to pull a regular surfboard through the water. A foil requires less power. Same with kitesurfing btw. However, getting out of the water is what requires the most power, I wonder how that is done with a wing?
