As a BritBrat kid, I saw the likes of late marque Spits and Mosquitos operating out of RAF Changi in Singapore 1950-1952, and early types of jets operating out of RAF Kai Tak, Hong Kong, 1956-1958. Oh the halcyon years of my youth. The twilight time of the British Empire.
Truth Seeker I saw all those aircraft from Tangmere Ford Lee on Solent and Thorny Island in the Forties and Fifties. on into the Sixties. Great sights and sounds couldn't beat it.
The 19950s really was the 'Golden Days' for the RAF as far as developments and progress goes. Entering the 'Jet Age', with a vast range of different types of planes, all technologically far more advanced than anything that had gone before! Looking forward to peace after long years if war, and with an incredibly experienced fighting force of real life combat veterans. Real shame that a long succession of Governments have almost destroyed the RAF with a string of terrible cost cutting decisions!
Wish I'd been in the RAF then...today its limp woke tattooed beards no overseas postings poor leadership tick box promotion for air officers etc etc hardly any serviceable aircraft it goes on .....2**
